11 chapter 8: Primal island

I have been able to fly for around 50 years, but only in the caverns of mars, Flying in the open sky blows it out of the water. Being able to rocket upward into the upper atmosphere to look out upon the world, or to zip between mountains at a blistering pace will never get old. I was spending my time meeting the many birds that lived in the mountains usually a solitary sort but easy enough to get along with while I researched where I would go first for my TV show.

Serenity my young bioship had done its level best to make its own video and audio equipment for the show but ended up just partially absorbing a camera and a microphone so it could follow me around unseen and I would be able to narrate to it telepathically and it would relay it to sound for the microphone. Serenity had taken its role extremely seriously and watched as many instructional videos on cinematography as it could find and had taken to documenting nearly everything I do, so I had an astonishing amount of B roll.

I hadn't been given much direction on where exactly to go in order to start my show so I decided to explore the world and see if I could find any strange places to explore.

Flying over the Pacific Ocean at supersonic speeds I scanned around for any strange islands that I was able to feel minds on. After flying for the better part of a day I came across a strange cloud formation completely unmoving as if shrowding something.

'Well, that's gotta be something interesting' I muse to myself, as I quickly turn and drop into the strange clouds.

I cocoon myself in a telekinetic barrier so I feel only light wind and water on my face as I rip through the fog. As I finally pass through the cloud barrier I am greeted with a strange sight, an island bathed by light scattered through a dome of thick clouds.

The light from the sun dances across the land as if through a thin screen of water, Massive trees the size of skyscrapers reach up and brush the edges of the clouds. Flocks of Ptyrodactils fly above and through the trees.

wait pterodactyls?

'JACKPOT, island out of time, dinasuars, imma go kaiju on this bitch!'

cackling madly I call out to Serenity

'Come on buddy let's film some dinosaurs!'

Serenity warbles excitedly in my mind as it buzzes about me nudging me telling me to get on with it.

'Alright buddy, just like we practiced' I tell him as I descend through the canopy of the primeval forest looking for the first specimens that we shall follow and film.

The jungle is bursting with all manners of life from massive insects to swift raptors that darted between the undergrowth.

Serenity zipped about collecting as much B roll as possible

'hmmm I don't really want to narrate the B roll... fuck it imma try and get David Attenborough. That man is the godfather of nature documentary voice overs' I mused to myself

Slipping into observation mode by phasing out and going invisible inside of a tree and stretching my mind out to sense the creatures around me.

*thoom thoom thoom

I felt vibrations travel up the tree I was hidden in and focused on the kingly beast that was shaking the earth just by walking.

A great horned head emerges from between the massive trees.

An Allosaurus strides through the great old-growth of the forest, and I know that I have found my first subject.

I fall into pure observation doing my best to understand the great beast before me. the world falls away and I sink into a trance.

I can feel the blood being pumped by a titanic heart, and great lungs billow oxygen-rich air to supply mammothine muscles with energy.

The beast's mind is very simplistic, mostly instinctual responses to general stimuli. Its eyes are mostly movement-based and it relies on its nose in order to track prey.

I eventually followed it to a clutch of eggs and decided to hop in as an adolescent Allosaurus to begin learning their behavior.

Due to the size of the fully-grown dinosaurs, I am unable to fully assume some species' forms as I do not have enough mass to grow that big and to have proper weight.

To get around this I assume the adolescent forms of the larger dinosaurs then follow in stealth when the adults go off alone to hunt or mate.

While I'm upset I can't go full Kaiju yet, I've gotten a great number of ideas and forms for when I get older and stack on more mass.

Having gone around joining roving packs of raptors and flocks of the strange flying beasts that populated the island.

Flying under muscle and wing power was quite the novelty and took me far longer to figure out than I would like to admit. this was due to the fact that there were no flying creatures on Mars, just small gliding animals so I had no analogs to go back to.

I hopped into the ocean to see if there were any aquatic dinosaurs still around in the waters around the island.

Gliding through the water I quickly found a host of creatures that would make anyone with thalassophobia shit themselves. The Styxiasaur looked like something out of a monster movie, a great long neck ending in a massive maw filled with crooked needle teeth.

I was gonna fuck with the kiddies in mount justice with this form no doubt about it, maybe get them to up the security on the base.

During my months on the island, I built a small cabin and dug an extensive cave system beneath the land full of observation and editing equipment for serenity. Slowly I increased my catalogue of my show emulating the chad that is Steve Irwin and Conan the barbarian.

I may not be human anymore and I don't biologically produce testosterone naturally but riding around on a red feathered T rex the size of a small apartment building was a close enough approximation.

Serenity was nearly apoplectic with joy zipping around the island with me getting to know the many creatures that made it their home.
