TRUE-BLUE HOMIE

The sky was clear and hot on a summer day. Many people at this time purposely wished for rain to shower the dried lands instead of thanking the sun for generously shining its lights and distributing too much warmth. Crops planted at the farmlands are slowly dying and wells are slowly drying because of too much heat from the sun.

People's faces filled with hot, sticky sweat, as they try to fan themselves, cooling their heads from sudden irritation and anger caused by the extreme unsatisfying feeling brought by the weather. Others would just visit the mall just to get cooled; others would go to the beach or cold springs to wash away the irritating feeling of sweats sticking into their heads.

However, at the far corners of the Earth, a girl, happily enjoys her time alone in her closed, cozy room inside their old house. She was greatly enjoying her time, reading books, painting and sketching, clearly a true-blue "hommie", who valued her vacation to be spent well indoors. Unlike the others, she is bound to her home, hating the extreme hot weather because for her, vacation is being glued to one's area.

"Kenny!" called a familiar voice from the outside. Kenny put down whatever she is currently doing after hearing that familiar voice and peeked outside from her window. There, she saw her best friend Martha who's grinning at her widely. "Oh what sup, Mamie?" She called her bestie Mamie short for Martha. "I messaged you in your Messenger and to no avail, you are not online again. That's why I came here," answered Mamie.

"Come inside my room." Mamie went in and greeted Kenny's sister and youngest brother, Nancy and Toby "Morning!" who are at the living room, watching TV. She then went upstairs to her bestie's room.

"O yeah, what's the sudden intrusion?"

Maria opened the door and got in. "And what's that tone of yours? Aren't you happy I visited you?" she retorted. This is the usual them, although they have been best friends since high school, Martha really knows her that well, even her great temper and crazy antics are taken note of.

"I doubt you just came here for a visit. Your house where you lived is one whole 20 pesos ride from here." Kenny honestly pointed out with her matter-of-fact tone. They are not the usual friend-neighbor duo. They lived far apart and they only meet once in a while. Kenny is way too lazy for meet-ups, this is also why she never dare to enter business and showcase her talents despite being multi-talented.

"Well, it's not like I can't pay my fare. Duhhh? And I got my day off today. I know you are usually alone. Why not we go out girl?" she happily invited Kenny, who is a well-known "stuck-up grandma" at her house. "You'll grow mosses and mushrooms if you'll stay here all vacation time." Martha teased. "So far, it's been forever that you're stuck here."

"You know me. I hate crowds and going out takes too much energy." 'It even takes time to take a bath!' she scowled inside her head.

"It's not like I don't even know. Duh." Sitting down on one of the stools she found in Kenny's room. 'I wouldn't be your best friend if I haven't known that.' Mamie told herself. "It's a total waste for that pretty face of yours. Better display it. For sure, many will go after you if you only go out your house a little more. Seems like getting at the age of 28 is making you more look like you're losing hope." She laughed.

Kenny rolled her eyes. "And nope. I'm not gonna display myself. I've got enough of that." She continued. "And, dating is a whole lot of work for me."

"Funny at how you said it's "a whole lot of work" when you yourself haven't gone to a single date since you were fucking born! Duhhhhh???" Bullseye!

"Your "duhhs" are annoying." Kenny feeling so helpless with the truth.

"You need to suffer that." Mammie and Kendra laughed. "Go and take a bath now. You stink." Pinching her nose, as if smelling something bad. "Eeeew!"

"Like now?" feels hesitant to go. At this moment, Martha knows Kenny hates being random especially when she's not in the mood to go.

"Like yes, now," declared Martha in her serious tone. "And it's too late to open my message. I'm already here."

"Nahh, I'm not opening that phone." She honestly said. Throwing her phone into the drawer. "Oh I, yeah. I see. So that's why you "dropped by" here unnoticed. ..wait. lemme think about… about that offer."

"Ay Ay Ay!" signaling a stop, Martha made a disagreed look. "No. Don't dare think about it coz you gotta move ya lazy ass outta your bed now. And as a matter-of-fact, It's not unnoticed." She continued. "You just never cared opening your poor phone. You could give that to me if you'd like. It will really serve its purpose." She retorted sarcastically. "AND…If you try to ditch me, I'mma gonna curse that lazy ass of yours and you'll be forever alone." She knew how Kenny would easily ditch, making up excuses for being unable to go. Well, lots of their "supposed" travel or night outs we're all but a dream. That's why, she's better off kidnapping her right at when it's not planned. Well, that's Kenny for you, so lazy.

"This is why you'll never marry. You're always—"

"Ashushushuuuuu!" it's Kenny's turn to silence her. Martha laughed.

"I knowwwwww..." Dragging the word "know" to satisfy her friend. "You see, your "bff" here is… uhm.. wait, oh yeah. I'm like a hermit in an island during weekend and vacations, right?" Kenny interrupted Mamie as she was about to say her piece. Instead of denying it, she agreed right away, not giving a damn about it like how she cared about what others would think before. She thinks, no excuses. Might as well be true to it. Mamie definitely nod her head in agreement.

"It's not like I'm interested in dating or even marriage. Its scares the hell out of me." Kenny felt she's having goosebumps all over her body just thinking about "marriage". She's not getting any younger, she knows that. Commitment scares her! "And ahem! Look who's talking."

"At least I have a lot of prospects."

"Then, set your long table first." Kenny smirked her winning statement.
