44 The funeral

"Where have you been?"

The moment Vera stepped inside the mansion, a query echoed to cease her.

Capturing the attention. Ezra sat there on the lounge, alone by himself. The whole mansion was quiet and dark.

The woman had a gut feeling, definitely something bad. "A friend wanted to talk"

Vera lied through her teeth helplessly. She could not say the truth, could she?

Aspen would be kidnapped again if the information leaked to Ezra who was close to Thomas Henley. "Friend?"

Ezra's eyes lifted. "Yes, why?" Pretending to be innocent, Vera flashed a smile.

Her steps remained at the end of stairs; not daring to walk near the lounge.

"Why didn't you answer my calls and explained it earlier if so?" Ezra got up. Approaching the woman as she gulped.

"About that, I am sorry. My phone died" Another lie. She had to turn it off in order to not get tracked if Thomas found out.
