Chapter 10-The One Whom I Made My Promise In The Past

I flew away from them and after an hour I landed on an unknown mountain. My head was hurting so bad that I need to kneel on the ground.

“I will find you, wherever you are. That’s a promise. I will stay alive for you, Epiphany,” a familiar voice said in my head.

That’s a lie! I can’t trust anyone! They always leave me behind!

“Why do I need to face these lies, Alethea? Why do people tell a lie?” I cried.

A sudden rain pours down and I have nothing to shelter on. I hugged myself in the middle of the woods.

“I wish, Xavier was here. He is the only man I could tell my feelings to. He is the only one who believes in me and the only person that I could count on. It’s truly ironic. I remember my past life as Serena but now that I am here as Epiphany, I can’t remember that I became a family member of royalty, ” I uttered.

I stop crying when I sense a killer's intent from the surroundings. How dare he interrupt my solitary moment?

“Who the hell are you? What do you want from me?” I shouted.

A man in a cloak suddenly appears and throws a dagger at me. I dodge it swiftly and landed on a thick branch of the tree.

“Just what the other vampires report, you are a very tough one,” he said and he pulls back his hood.

My eyes widened when I saw who it is. I can’t believe my eyes. I thought he was dead! I was shaking to know that the man standing right before me is Xavier. But what happened to him? Why does he become a vampire?

“X-Xavier? Is that you?”

His eyes widened. I want to hug him but fate tells me not to. He gritted his teeth and dash in my direction. He was ready to kill me with his dagger but I hug him tightly.

“Xavier! Wake up! Can’t you see? I’m Serena!” I shouted.

He pushed me away and I fell to the ground. “Humans are all liars! They are cruel! They will only lie for the sake of their reputation and power! They killed Serena! I give up my humanity to kill the humans you’ve been protecting for!” Xavier vents out in rage.

Intense mana was leaking out from his body. The trees start to uproot and go in my direction. I dodge all of them and landed safely on the ground.

“This is reality, Xavier. Do not bear the regrets that aren’t yours from the start! Society knows how to dress a lie as truth. And still, they refused to view the naked truth. That’s why I accept Alethea’s offer to be her descendant. To seek the truth and revenge on my family in my former past life,” I replied.

Xavier calm down for a moment. But still, his mana was leaking out. “Don’t use Serena for your evil plan! Not the woman I promised to marry in front of the statue of Davina!” Xavier shouted.

I still remember the flower crown he created and placed on my head the day he professed his love. It was dazzling like any other gem. “Among the jewelry that I received from the Zeprailles empire, the crown you made from dark red carnations is my favorite,” I uttered.

He held his dagger to attack me. I prepared myself in accepting his fatal blow. I sigh and let out a genuine smile for the first time, “Let’s go again to the field of carnations, Xavie.”

He was panting and an inch was enough to escape his deadly attack. I didn’t even flinch because I believe in Xavier.

“S-Serena?” Xavier call my name.

I was about to reach him when suddenly an arrow shoot out from nowhere. Xavier’s hands were wounded but thanks to his regeneration ability, his wound heals quickly. We looked up and I saw a knight preparing to shoot again. He has long black hair and a pair of golden eyes. He was aiming for Xavier but I interrupt his attack by walking in front of Xavier.

“Wait a minute! This person is a friend of mine!” I shouted.

He never listens and out of a sudden, he quickly appears on my side. He kicks me hard on my stomach and landed on a tree.

“Epiphany Saberblade. By the royal decree of Eblines, your friend must be eradicated,” he said.

I gather up my strength to stand up. Xavier was glued to his location. He can’t focus on his fight maybe because he was worried.

“Xavier! Run away! You will never stand a chance against him!” I yelled but Xavier was too reluctant to leave.

Before the man in front of us killed Xavier, another vampire appeared and dragged Xavier out of the woods. I felt relieved and to my surprise, the man who kicked me in the waist carried me like his bride.

“Epiphany, you mustn’t make Prince Rowan cry. My eardrums were too hurt because of his anger and tantrums,” he coldly said, and in a blink of an eye, we were at the front of the throne.

Queen Thessaleiah run toward us and forget her etiquette as Queen of Eblines.

“What happened to her?” the Queen asked worriedly.

I was nervous because maybe he will the truth about Xavier. Before he could tell the truth, I touched his face and implanted a wrong memory. My mana was too drained after I implanted a fake memory on humans. I can implant fake memory on objects without having any fatigue. It’s ironic. I hate liars but I am one of them too.

“A vampire tried to harm her. Luckily, I was there to protect her,” he reported.

Impossible! Does he counteract the memory alteration?

“It’s a noble vampire, Your Highness. He was about to bite Princess Epiphany when I arrived,” he said and he coldly look at me.

The King ordered the maids to tidy me up. I was about to escape when someone tried to control my body.

“Epiphany, trust us. Please?” the King plead.

I tried to speak but my mouth became numb for a while. The King kiss my forehead and I felt the tears fall on my cheeks. The king steps away and this man carried me away from the throne. As we were heading to some room, his cold stares bring me a shiver to my spine.

“You should take a rest. The stubbornness of your head will never get you anywhere. Remember that you can protect the people you love if you have the authority,” the man who carried me reminded me before he enters the room.

The maid opens up the door and he lays me on a marble bench. This is the chamber bath of the royal palace! I only saw this in the book but I have never been before to this place.

“Sir Typhon, thank you for bringing the princess back,” one of the maids said.

He nods and walks away. Before he reaches the door, he takes a glance at me and smiles. “Without the interruption of that vampire. I wonder what else you could do? Let’s meet again, Princess Witch,” he uttered.

He left the chamber bath and the maids start cleaning my body. I wonder who is Typhon? I know that he counteracts my ability earlier. That is not the fake memory I inserted into his mind. He tells the half-truth that a vampire attacked me earlier but he also tells a lie. However, that lie saves Xavier from being killed. I wonder what is Typhon’s intention in hiding the truth.
