Married to the loveless CEO

In a society where marriage has lost its true essence and has been distorted, reducing it to a transaction devoid of love and commitment, a mere agreement for personal benefits. Silvia Reyes found herself caught up in the chaos as she was about to be forced by her parents into marrying a man she despises. She was able to bail herself out of her dilemma as she offered a marriage of convenience to Davian Randell, who in turn needed it too to solve his dire situation. But life rarely goes as planned, does it? Will they find a way to reclaim love and commitment in their own lives, or will they succumb to the societal pressures that have tarnished the institution of marriage? Excerpt:- "If you think I'm gonna marry that man, then sorry, I'm not!" She said to her father. "You are, Silvia." Her father declared. "I have a man!" She said. "What?" Her parents chorused. "You have a man. You should have told us earlier instead of letting us go through all that trouble." Alan said. "We've been dating for some while now and he proposed to me recently and I accepted it." She showed them an engagement ring on her finger, which she bought before coming to the mansion. "It's beautiful. How come you weren't wearing it yesterday?" Her mother asked. "I didn't wear it yesterday." She answered simply. "Then why did you go through the trouble of attending the dinner date?, you could have just told us," Her mother added. "I wanted to see the man you were setting me up with. I was so angry because I knew I was taken already. I didn't want to tell you guys yet, I didn't want to introduce him to you guys till a couple of days time. You spoilt the surprise." Silvia explained. "Oh I see. So when can we meet this lucky man?, do we know him?" Alan said. "Uh-Uhm...no you don't. You'll meet him in a couple of days time, he's a really busy man." She almost shuttered. "Okay, dear. We'll be waiting." Her mother said. What has she done?, how was she going to get a man that will be willing to marry her in just a couple of days time.

Should I teach you?

"It's okay. Should I teach you?" he asked.

"..."

He started to walk towards her, the apron in his hands. He wore it over her head, his body leaned over her as he tied it around her waist. He retreated and smiled at her.

"Shall we?" he said and she nodded.

"It's nothing special. Just your homemade quive'dros," he smiled at her.

"I've never had it," she replied. He looked at her in bewilderment.

"Who hasn't?" he said.

"I've never even heard of it," she added.

"Wow, you're a rich kid though," he called her a kid. Her brows furrowed at him but she didn't retaliate.

"I guess it's just popular around the locals. But you're going to have a taste of it today," he continued.

"Well, the meal is a combination. A combination of homemade oven baked bean breads and fried veggies. You may add some meat, I'll be using chicken," he showed her some neatly sliced chicken meat.

"Let's start with cutting our vegetables, I've already washed it all," he said and proceeded in cutting some tomatoes on a cutting board. He cut it so neatly, like a pro chef which he was.

"Is there any way I can help?" she asked.

"Can you cut some onions, princess?" he inquired.

"I'll try. But I hear things about onions being too hurtful to the eyes," she said and he let out a short laugh.

"You're scared?" he questioned.

She glared at him and collected the onions, he turned away to start cutting some carrots into tiny cubes. He was utterly shocked when he turned to Silvia again and saw that she had finished cutting two onions and was preparing to cut another, but she had cut it without removing the skin, and she cut it so big.

"No," he whined collecting the knife from her.

"Ah, what have you done to my precious onions?" he added.

"What did I do wrong?" she questioned him.

"All the meals you have been eating that contains onions, have you ever seen the skin of the onions in them?" he asked.

"Well...it probably comes off when cooking it," she replied.

He didn't know if he should cry or laugh. He placed his elbow on the kitchen island which they were cutting the vegetables at, the four sections gas cooker was also in the kitchen island. Then he leaned his head on his palm;

"Okay, princess. Will you eat any food with onions that size?" he asked again.

For the first time since they have been around each other, Silvia smiled in embarrassment.

Her cheeks were pink as she blushed; "No," she said and he chuckled.

He collected the cutting board which she had used in cutting the onions and he threw the onions away in the kitchen trash can. He picked up another onion.

"Look closely, princess. First of all, you peel away the skin of the onion," he stated as he did it. "Then you wash it again," he added as he washed it for the second time and proceeded in cutting it.

"You get it now?" he asked, she nodded as she sniffs. It really did hurt, her eyes were burning and it was also giving her a running nose, how come he was unaffected.

"Now, do it," he instructed.

She collected another onion and started to peel off the skin.

"Good," he praised her as she finished.

"You're a fast learner," he added, then she collected the knife and started to cut the onion.

He went behind her and she felt her heart skip a beat when she felt his hard chiseled chest on her back, his hands held hers. She turned her head to glance at him, her eyes came in contact with his side face as he leaned over her.

"You don't hold a knife like that when cutting things, you might hurt yourself," he said without turning to look at her. His hands on hers began to guide her hand as they both held the knife and cut the onion.

"All done," Davian said and moved away from her. "Congratulations. You've successfully passed how to cut an onion," he said smiling happily at her, she flashed him a small smile.

His hand went for her face but she moved away immediately.

"Oh, I...I just wanted to wipe some tears away from your eyes," he defended.

"It's okay," she said and wiped it herself.

"The onions are really harsh," she complained.

"Hmmf," he huffed in amusement.

With Davian's supervision, they sliced the remaining vegetables and soon, it was all done. Davian mixed all the ingredients for baking the bean breads as Silvia watched closely. When he was done, he turned the mixture into a baking pan that had eight sections and put it into the oven.

Then he started to fry the well cut veggies and meat. His phone rang, his eyes went to the sink, which was where he had kept it. He collected it, it was Lucas calling. He glanced at Silvia.

"I think it's about work, the breads will be ready in just a couple of seconds time, remove it from the microwave and make sure you also continue to stir the veggies till I get back or it might get burnt," he instructed her and she nodded.

"Hello..." he said as he walked out of the kitchen.

She started stirring the veggies on the frypan immediately.

"Ding..." came the sound of the microwave indicating that the breads were ready. She stopped stirring the veggies and opened the microwave to remove the breads.

"Ouch!" she yelped in pain as she instinctively let go of the pan of bean breads and it all landed on the floor, scattered.

Her palms were red now, burnt from the heat of the microwave.

"Oh no, no, no!" she exclaims as the veggies began to burn because she didn't stir it as she tried to adjust to the pain of her burnt palms.

"No..." she trailed off. She felt like crying, all their hard work burnt because of her carelessness.

She wanted to decrease the intensity of the gas cooker, to see if she could savage anything from the burnt meal. Instead she increased it more and she didn't know what happened the next second but the gas stove flared up immediately and the kitchen island caught fire. It sent her away hitting her back on the sink.

Her eyes widened;

"Davian...Davian?!" she screamed his name.

...

Oops...oh no, fire. Let's hope nothing happens to them.
