Callum raised his hand and patted Adam's shoulder. "Are you going to say she's married again? So what if she's married? Can't she get divorced? Give her husband some money and make him go away. She'll be yours."

Adam bent down and put out his cigarette, looking coldly at Callum. "She's not someone you can joke around with."

Callum laughed. "Are you protecting her?"

Adam replied, "Protecting her? I just can't stand people who casually make jokes about women."

Callum agreed. "Okay, whatever you say. Let's not talk about her and go eat."

Adam was very stubborn and couldn't tolerate anyone speaking ill of his assistant. He refused to admit any of those things.

Perhaps it wasn't that he didn't want to admit, but rather that he had never been in love before and didn't know how to love someone, let alone understand what it feels like to love someone.
