40 Chapter 40: On the Defensive

After returning from Raiyama, I dropped off little Naotaro at my aunt's place like usual before heading to the base to meet up with Uneri and the Raiyaman mercenaries his father had hired to aid us.

"Bad news," Uneri said as I stepped into my office.

I crossed my arms over my chest and sighed. We really weren't short on bad news as of late, we were? I could hardly sleep last night because of the threat Eiichiro's supporter made. Thankfully, our trip back had gone well. Well, until now.

"Captain Saffron and the others already departed to the base," Uneri said, sighing.

"Captain Saffron went ahead of us?" I yelled, slamming my hands on the desk. "What is that guy thinking? Hmph, he probably wasn't, that's what!"

"Calm down, Major," Uneri said, reverting back to his professional self. "Captain Saffron is a smart man. I'm sure there's a reason he did what he did."
