Chapter 18 Did he change his mind?

But the moment Yan Mei resumed eating her food, her phone rang again and she looked to see that it was the same person.

Sensing her hesitation, Zhang Yu who had been secretly observing her spoke,"Go ahead and answer it. It is okay."

She gave a stiff smile before swiping to answer the call.

"Yan Yan," came the woman's enthusiastic voice.

"Grandma," she called. "How are you dear?" she asked.

"I am okay. How about you?" "I just learnt from your parents that you got married again. How soon," she said.

Not knowing what to say, Yan Mei glanced at her husband and she said," Yes grandma."

"Why didn't you tell me about it Yan Yan? Here I was still hopeful that you might get back with my grandson," she heard grandma Wang say.

"Everything happened so quick that I didn't have time to inform you about it. And perhaps, he too moved on so fast. He is going to get engaged right?" she couldn't help but ask.

"I heard that nonsense too but there's no way I will permit that to happen. I cannot let that leech of a woman into our family!"

Yan Mei took a deep breath and said,"You know what grandma, I will call you back. I was in the middle of something important."

"Alright but before you hang up, spare some time and come visit me. I miss you."

"Okay," she replied and quickly ended the call.

When she placed the phone down, she looked at Zhang Yu who was still eating his food. She then put the phone in silence such that she could not be disturbed again. Gazing at him again, she wondered if she should explain but judging on his reaction, he didn't seem to be bothered and she decided to continue with her food.

As she was eating, Zhang Yu looked at her. He clearly understood that the conversation was about her ex husband Wang Lu, and judging by the way she was eating now, he realized that she was still affected by him.

"Is everything alright?" he asked and she looked at him. "Huh?" "I mean you don't look the same after that phone call. Are you okay?"

"Ah, it's nothing I'm alright," she replied. "You're sure?" he asked and she nodded.

After they had arrived home, they were walking inside the house when Zhang Yu fetched his phone from his trouser pocket. Looking at the caller, he answered swiftly," Grandpa." "How are you?" asked the old man.

He glanced at Yan Mei who had paused in her tracks and he replied, "I'm fine. Is everything alright?" "Yes. Are you with your wife?" he heard him ask.

"Yes why?" "I called her thrice but she didn't pick up," he said and Zhang Yu rolled his eyes.

"What do you want to tell her?" he asked.

"Hand the phone to her," came the command and he rolled his eyes before giving the phone to Yan Mei.

"It's grandfather," he informed.

Placing it on her ear, she spoke," Chairman Zhang." "We agreed that you call me Grandpa," he said and she face palmed. "Grandpa," she immediately changed her statement.

"How are you dear?" he asked in a much gentle voice. "I am fine. How are you Grandpa?" she asked. "Heartbroken," he said. "Why's that?" "It's because ever since you left this side, you have never called me and when I called you moments ago you refused to pick up."

"No no no that is not the case. It's just that, we were out for dinner and I put the phone in silence. I'm so sorry," she said and the old man smiled in satisfaction. It seems like his grandson was working on winning her heart, he thought.

"Alright I will excuse you for today. But why don't you ever call me?" he asked.

"It's just that I didn't want to bother you thinking that you might be busy," she said.

"I am never busy for my family. I will always have your time," he said and she smiled.

"Thank you so much grandpa. I promise that from tomorrow, I will make it a point to call you everyday," she declared.

"Alright. So tell me, how is my grandson treating you? And don't lie to me," he said and she looked at Zhang Yu who was already looking at her. "Not bad grandpa," she replied. "Are you sure? Don't say this just because he is present. You can tell me anything and I assure you, he won't do anything to you." "I am telling the truth. He is a good person," she replied.

"Alright I believe you. Zhang Wei says hello," he said. She smiled before saying,"Tell her that I said hello too."

"Alright. I will let you rest as you might be tired," she heard him say. "Alright grandpa. Have a good night." "Good night to you too."

After a long bath, Yan Mei applied her body lotion and then changed into her pajamas. Afterwards, she walked to the bedroom and looked on the bed to see Zhang Yu who was doing something on his laptop.

She was a bit surprised since she had expected to find him sleeping.

She made slow steps such that she doesn't bother him and went to sit in front of the vanity.

Taking a seat, she got her tools and started combing her hair, while her mind drifted back to the events of the day.

Zhang Yu had given her flowers something Wang Lu had never done for her. On top of that, he took her out to dinner. Subconsciously, a small smile came on her lips. She couldn't deny that she felt good knowing that her husband was caring for her. But remembering the phone call she received from Grandma Wang, she frowned.

Zhang Yu stopped the work he was doing the moment Yan Mei sat at the vanity and looked at her. She looked so beautiful as she combed her long black silky hair. In his eyes, she was the most beautiful woman and no one could compare to her. His eyes trailed onto her exposed neck and delicate collar bones. Her skin looked so soft and velvety.

When she got done with combing her hair, she turned her head to look towards the bed only to see Zhang Yu who was watching her.

He was no longer having his laptop and was only looking at her. Averting her eyes, she softly gulped and she wondered what was on his mind. Was he planning that they do it today?

Not now! she screamed in her mind. She was not mentally prepared and also, she felt so exhausted.

Placing back everything in place, she stood up and slowly walked towards the bed.

Sitting at the edge, she looked at him and asked," Uh, are you still up?"

"Are you done?" he asked instead and she nodded.

"Alright. Let's go to sleep," he said and she internally sighed in relief.

Switching off the lights, they both slipped inside the covers and Yan Mei lay down with her back facing him. But the next moment, she yelped when she felt his hand wrap around her waist and she was then pulled towards him.

She panicked when she felt herself in his embrace. Didn't he say they were going to sleep? Did he perhaps change his mind?
