Chapter 41
Nicholas arrives sooner than excepted and called Laura just outside the hospital so she can come get him, Laura has never called him before no matter the circumstances and he could swear she doesn't have his number.
When he received her call to come over to the hospital, he was shocked and confused but still ran out of the house and head there praying she is not hurt or anything.
Laura beckoned to him inside the hospital and he walk up to her and she lead him silently inside, Nicholas is curious and wanted to ask her what the problem is but she has this cold and serious look on her face that pulls him off from her all the time.
She stopped right in front of a ward and he saw a Chris standing at the door, the two exchanged greetings like strangers and Laura asked him to go in while the two reminded outside
Nicholas entered and saw Ella in the room crying, he was alerted and hurried towards her, he pull her to himself and is worried that he didn't notice anyone sleeping on the bed
"What is worng? Are you sick or something?" He asked but Ella cried the more and he could only hug her thinking she is hurt. Ella pull away from him and shakes her head to tell him she is alright
"Nico, our child is sick" she said and looked at pumpkin on the bed. Nicholas turned to where her gaze is and saw a little girl lying in the bed with some machines attached to her body.
He looked back to Ella and looked at the girl again then recognize her, he saw her picture at Ella's house the other day but what does she mean?
"Our child?" He thought and blinked his eyes confused because they only met again recently. Ella sensed his confusion and explained more
"After you left then I found out I was pregnant and I didn't get rid of it because I wanted to keep your baby" she told him crying and rests her head on his shoulders.
Nicholas was dumbfounded and stare in shock at nothing in particular trying to get the message Ella just passed across to him
"I have a child who is this grown and is sick right now" he thought and pull away from Ella slowly
"Am sorry but I need your help" Ella begged and looked desperately at him and looking at his speechless look she continued
"I am not asking you to take responsibility, she is my child but I need your help for her to live" she persuaded and Nicholas nodded his head still shocked then Chris and Laura entered with the doctors and interrupt them.
Ella and Nicholas stood up on seeing them and Laura explained
"The results is out" she informed Ella and the doctor start to explain
"Among the three samples, only one matches and that is Miss Laura" the doctor told them and they smiled happily but the look of the doctors doesn't look happy
"But there is an issue concerning that also" all of them went silent to hear it
"Miss Laura seems to have some signs of being pregnant so we requested for a pregnancy test and till we get the result she won't be able to and time is running out" the doctor said and paused a bit before he continues
"If it's turns out she is pregnant then it wouldn't be good" he finished feeling sorry
"What about her father?" The other doctor standing beside him asked and Laura quickly push Nicholas forward towards the doctor
"He is here" she said and Nicholas nodded like a fool not able to digest the fact that he is a father now
"Please follow us for a test then" the doctor said and he went out with them.
Laura quickly move closer to Ella and asked about Nicholas reaction when she told him but she didn't reply and just smiled when Laura tried to press her for an answer, Chris pull her away and stops her.
The both of them decide to go out and wait, Chris took Laura to a corner and let her sit
"Didn't you hear what the doctor said earlier?" He asked wondering if he is the only one who heard the word pregnancy.
"Yes, I can't believe something like this would happen" she replied oblivious to what Chris meant
"You might be pregnant!" He spell out and Laura looked at him like he just said a strange word
"What? When did that happen?" She asked then her mind went to what the doctor said again and realizes.
"That means I might have a baby growing inside me" she repeated and Chris sighed surprised at her attitude.
She leaped with joy and hugged Chris happily, he also hugs her and snuggled his head onto her shoulder.
The both of remain like that drown in joy about the good news while Nicholas approaches them and they move away from each other.
Chris stood up and asked him if he is done and he answered yes then walk pass him to Laura who tries to hide her excitement from him
"Do you know about Ella having a baby?" He asked and his voice sounds hoarse.
"Yes I do, she did not want to make you think she wants something else by giving birth to your child" she answered.
"Since when have you known about it?" He questioned again
"Not too long, am sure she didn't…" Nicholas cut her off with an angry voice
"How could you not tell me!" He yelled and Chris step in between them before he does anything stupid
"How could the both of you hide my daughter from me? What does that make me? An irresponsible man?" He continued bitterly
"Well, I guess you are" Laura replied sharply and stood up from her seat
"You want her to let a mama boy take care of her child" she added annoyed with him.
"She is also my child"
"Oh really" she replied and the both of them continued brawling at each other
"Stop your nonsense" Chris snapped at the both of them and they stopped fuming at each other without another word. Chris wanted to spank the both of them for acting childishly but knows he can't they were acting like a typical siblings
"Are you done?" He asked the both of them and Laura pulled her tongue at him then returned to her seat
"Have you seen her?" Chris asked and Nicholas shakes his head negatively, he didn't get a good chance to see her properly before the doctor entered earlier and lead him away
Nicholas turned away from them and went in to meet Ella and his daughter, Ella stood up as he enters and he walk pass her and sat down on the bed then touch her face. He looked at her deeply and rob her face gently bit to disturb her, he slowly lean in and kissed her forehead.
"What is her name?" He asked
"Julie but I call her pumpkin" she answered
"Julie" he called and continue to stare at her then he suddenly move away and hugged Ella who is startled.
"It's okay" he told her, Ella feels relieved and hugs him tighter.
Nicholas was angry with Laura and said everything he wanted to say to Ella to her instead, Ella is upset enough and it won't be good to add insult to injury. Apart from the fact that she kept the child's existence from him, he is quite pleased that she is the one who gave birth to his child. He kissed her hair and continued to hug her.
