Chapter 39

…. Laura woke up the next morning feeling tired and worn out, they had sex all night long and now she feels so exhausted and instead of getting up, she wrapped her body around Chris's and tried to going back to sleep but Chris also woke up and looked at her in the eyes, he smiled and plant a kiss on her forehead

"Good morning" he told her and she smiled then replied him in the same manner

"Wash up first, I will make something for you to eat" he told her and get up from the bed, put on his boxers from last night but Laura showed no sign in getting up but instead covered up her body to sleep more

Chris sat down beside her and drag her tired body up

"Do you want me to help you have a bath?" He teased but Laura didn't reply and closed her eyes pretending to be sleeping

Chris carried her up from the bed with the duvet cover and carried her towards the bathroom

"Or we can take a bath together" he told her and before Laura could protest he entered the bathroom with her..

The both of them came out of bathroom in an hour after having another round of lovemaking and dress up.

Laura wore a turtleneck sweater to hide all the marks on her body so Mira won't see them and left the room with Chris but when they got to her room, she was gone with a small note to inform them about it.

The two looked surprised to see that she actually left on her own but shrugged it off and went to the kitchen to prepare some food to replenish their energy.

….Laura grabbed some snacks from the kitchen and place them in front of Chris then sit in his arms again to continue their talk.

They finished eating breakfast and went back to arrange the room but end up on the bed again twice so they decide to stay in the living room instead of going to work since it's already late and catch up on things about each other.

"I really did not say anything like that about you" Laura denied after getting back

"Yeah you did and I was really devastated to hear that, then I thought you think of me as a friend at least"

"But I still don't agree with you, I did no such thing and also, my mom had always wanted me to live my life just like hers and I hated it so I wanted to rebel a little especially when it had to do with my relationship"

"I guess we have the same thing in common about our moms, my mom can be worse"

"I can already guess that, no wonder they were friends"

"But if we had dated back then do you think we might still be together right now?" Chris asked curiously and Laura took some seconds to answer

"Maybe, am a one man kind of girl except you..you know..but then if we were together then we will have gotten married immediately we finished school"

"That's true" Chris said and the two laughed.

"But then I thought you were dating Kayla my cousin" Laura said, she still couldn't forget the time she saw the both of them together acting like a couple of some sort

"Kayla? I don't really remember having any conversation with her" Chris replied

"What, I saw the both of you holding hands and acting cosy like a couple then you went home together" Laura said surprised he is lying to her face

"Am serious, I don't know what you are talking about, maybe you misunderstood what you saw" he said firmly but Laura still didn't believe and didn't give up

"I don't believe you, I know what I saw, I think it was the last day you came to school before leaving the country" she insisted and Chris think back hard

"Oh! That day" he said as he remembered the day she was talking about

"See, I knew it. So was she into you or you were into her?" She questioned jealously

"It was quite different from what you imagined, she told me she wanted to tell me something about you and told me of your conversation with Avan but I already heard it so I left" he explained

"Really? Are you sure that was all?"

"Of course, I didn't come back to school after that"

"Huh.. that's good then" she said giving up and Chris smiled

"Were you jealous? Because you saw her with me?" He asked but Laura denied it strongly

"Why would I? I just think she wouldn't be a good choice for you, she was a crazy fellow and still is"

"Okay I will accept that explanation even though I know you are" he said and Laura frown pretending to get annoyed then laughed and the two continue to talk about other things and Chris life after he left.

"I actually have something to tell you" Chris mentioned in the middle of their conversation

"What?" Chris excuse himself and went to his study to get some documents then showed Laura all about Avan and Clara dubious dealings in her company and also all the fake contracts

"It was somehow noticable but I guess you trust them a lot and didn't think they could do that"

"I knew" Laura told him and Chris's jaw dropped

"You do? Then why did you keep quiet about it?"

"I found out pretty late okay and that's why I wanted you to handle the contract because I didn't want to be the one to say it to his face, I thought he probably has a good reason for doing it but I guess I was wrong"

"Are you stupid?" Chris said before he could stop himself and quickly apologize

"But no man who loves a woman would do that for any reason at all" he said as calmly as he can.

"That's why am going to show him what a woman's power is, all this dirty secrets and that of his dad is in my palm"

Chris hugs her and kissed her forehead sweetly, Laura hugged his back and then apologized for her attitude years back and how she disregard his feelings and break things the way she did.

"It's all good now" he told her and gave her a cunning look, Laura hits him lightly and then start to kiss him slowly….

Laura has an interview with a very popular TV show about her new project 'Happy Home' and left home with Chris giving her a drive to work with a promise to come get her in time for her interview.

Laura knows a lot of the executives and directors deceive her and tries to override her because she has little knowledge before joining the company and because they have been working for her mother for a long time now also some are family.

She doesn't want to cause any unnecessary issues but seeing what happened with Avan she decide not to take anyone's nonsense and deal with everything rightly to set things up straight

Chris agreed to help her and she handed some important documents and information to him, he went through them and point out a lot of stuff to her then they planned to let him help her for this morning meeting and then he will teach her about management properly.

After sacking Clara, Laura has not gotten a new secretary and has to use one of the staff temporarily, she got to her office and set up a few things before one of her staff came to inform her that everything is ready for her meeting and all executives are waiting for her.

Laura picked her phone with an earphone connected to Chris and head there immediately, it's an annual meeting and also to talk about the success of the new launch but today is going to be different.

Her first uncle was the first to talk and instead of going into details and giving her full reports he just briefed her about it like he always do but Laura stopped him before he returned to his seat and asked him to re-present.

"I have said everything you need to know" he said annoyed that she tried to order him. Laura listened to Chris instruct before replying

"I want you to go over the details and explain why the company has lost eight million over the last one year and still production continues while other products which should be bringing in money are been ignored" she questioned raising her voice like Chris told her

"I have been in charge of this part of the company for a very long time now and you can't question me just because we have a loss last year" he said with disrespect and went back to his seat then Laura's mother's elder sister speak up

"Laura, are you trying to question us now? Before we agree to let you sit in that seat, you promised to let us handle everything. Are you getting ideas now that you have a success with the only project you will ever handle?" She said sardonically and all of them nodded in agreement

"Do you think you can have Happy Home and still have control of the whole company? Even though your brother is no more here you are still nothing, you understand" another one said and they all laughed.

Laura looked at them all with disdain and wanted to scream at them all to shut up but Chris entered the room in that moment and she felt elated to see him although surprised like the others.

Chris walked in angry at the way they all treat Laura over the phone and sat down next to her then crossed his legs and dragged the files in front of Laura to himself then go through them briefly

"Everything here is rubbish, I get that you are all blockheads but you should do a better job than this if you are getting paid this much" he said and they all looked at him stunned then looked at Laura who is also staring at him

"You are all here not because you should be but because Laura is mercuful enough to give you another chance to redeem yourselves. If you still want to keep your positions then you better bring a better report and also start to defend the accusations against you"

"What nonsense is going on?" The man earlier said flaring up but the two who already had an encounter with Chris in the past knew not to cross his path and keep their heads down

"Exactly" the others said in unison

"What on Earth do you think you are doing here?" He added but Chris shush him and use his hand to indicate to him to sit

"Shut your mouth if you don't want to leave here first" he threatened but the man laughed thinking he is joking while the rest were starting to get a bit sacred.

They have heard the things happening to MIME company and everyone knows it's Chris's handwork but no one dare says it out loud.

Chris laugh at his rude response and turn to the director of the HRM department of the main office

"Prepare the acting president's termination letter immediately" he instructed and she nodded and get to it immediately

"You are fired!" He spell out to him and the other opened their mouth in shock.

"What!" He exclaimed still not believing him and everyone starts to murmured and make comments

"You can't do that, what power do you think you have?" He questioned not taking him seriously.

Chris pick his phone and called his assistant who is just outside the room.

"Jerry, help him clear out his desk and make sure he doesn't take with him anything that belongs to the company also collects every company card with him and kick him out" he ordered Jerry who carried out the orders immediately and everyone start to tremble in fear

"As from today, I will be the acting president of the company and anyone who feels I don't have a say here should stand up and talk" he said but there was complete silent and everyone feared not to get sacked

"Now, I will give everyone two days and you will all bring the report to Laura's office by then, no one is expected to turn theirs in after that and everyone who fails to do so is no more needed here, do you understand?" He bossed but none of them could answer

"Do you all understand me?" He repeated and all echoed yes.

"Good, everyone is dismissed" he said and they all scurried out literally running.
