48 The Battle Is Over

Phillip couldn't believe his eyes as his gaze slowly went over each line of the message repeatedly. The instructions read;

"You have 15 hours to prepare a legal agreement through your lawyer, stating your intention of choosing to forfeit Diane Brown's assets which should be allocated to you in the course of your divorce.

Do this and I will get the police off your back and close the case. Simple!

Oh, and don't bother confronting or harassing Dr. Diane Brown regarding this deal. She doesn't know anything about it, plus that kind of rash action can risk this piece of evidence coming to light."

Whatever kind of willpower it was that held Phillip back from screaming or throwing his phone to the ground really needs to be studied given how ugly his facial expression was.

The entire muscles of his face were squeezed into a tight frown as his fingers clenched his phone.

A vein throbbed in his head as he gnashed his teeth, his heart, seeking whom to devour.

"That bitch!" he cursed bitterly while being careful to not raise his voice as any sound from his bedroom, and people would come flooding in in concern.

At least he didn't need anyone to fuss about him when he was still in the middle of trying to digest the instruction for his freedom.

"And you say she doesn't have a hand in this?" He ground his teeth as his eyes saw red. There was no saying that he wouldn't snap Diane's body in half without confirming her hand in it if he saw her now.

He was out for blood, despite the warning that was given to him.

Phillip just refused to believe that Diane was innocent of this matter even though he had lived with her for enough time to know that blackmailing was never in her nature.

That woman was very dumb, but he had to find someone to blame, so he chose her.

"You have a lot of dangerous fans, huh?!" He spoke to himself as his gaze narrowed.

Phillip had to think between two important matters of which one made more sense and in the end, despite his wanting to teach Diane a big lesson, he chose his future as the most important thing and went ahead to call his lawyer, informing him of his change of mind and instructing him to prepare the necessary legal document and arrange a meeting with Diane and her lawyer.

Diane was surprised when her lawyer reached out to her regarding Phillip's sudden need to have an urgent meeting with her the following day.

She wondered if this was what Christian meant by Phillip reaching out to her. Regardless, she immediately agreed to meet with him.

The meeting took place at a private restaurant the following morning, prompting Diane to take a day off from the hospital.

As soon as Diane walked into the restaurant, her eyes landed on Phillip who was staring at her like he could pounce on her at any given moment.

"You are finally here," he sneered. Pointing at his wristwatch, he argued, "You kept me waiting for three minutes."

Diane stared at him warily as she took her seat across from him with her lawyer. "There was a little traffic."

"But here I am, right on time," he insinuated without taking his gaze off her. He was still trying to gauge her to truly clarify if she was connected to his blackmailer, but seeing her being so cautious toward him, he had to rule out that possibility for the time being.

Before they could start throwing any shade at each other, Phillip's lawyer opened his bag and brought out the agreement he prepared and passed it to Diane.

"Please, have a look at it and tell us if anything is missing."

Diane took both copies and had a look at them. Even though Christian had reassured her on several occasions that he would take care of this matter, actually staring at the agreement that stated that Phillip had agreed to forfeit his rights to half of her assets, shocked her.

Finally, the battle was over with one help from the right person.

"Are you satisfied?" Phillip asked watching her carefully read each line of the agreement. He wanted nothing more than to pull them away and shred them to pieces, but the fear of his blackmailer was the beginning of wisdom.

If only there was a chance to sneak an attack on this woman who was getting away with everything, he wouldn't hesitate to do it as long as he doesn't get caught.

Diane didn't bother to reply to him as she concentrated solely on making sure that every statement was right before passing it to her lawyer to glance through.

If there was even a speck of dust on it, Mr. Sixtus would point it out.

"You must really have a lot of connections," Phillip said out of the blue while watching her with a predator gaze.

Diane's brows creased into a frown. "What do you mean by that?" She hated his side comments and wished that he would come forward with all the grudges he had for her.

For example, she wanted to know what exactly made him change his mind regarding the prenup.

She wanted to know what method Christian and his lawyers had used on him to force him to do this because if she wasn't wrong, she could tell him his actions since she arrived that he was being forced to leave their marriage with nothing of hers.

"Forget it." Phillip flicked his gaze away and slouched in his seat. He looked very bitter as he fisted his right hand.

Seeing that, Diane let out a breath before asking, "Might I ask, what made you change your mind about the prenup?"

Phillip scoffed as he slowly turned his gaze to her. "And what makes you think I will answer that question? If you want to know, go find out yourself."

Now, Diane was very interested in what method Christian used that made this rascal of a husband so tight-lipped.

But even if she was that curious, how was she going to find out? Christian would never answer her even if she didn't dare to meet him, and his lawyers would not divulge such information without his permission.

In all, she was better off without knowing.

"The agreement is perfect," Mr. Sixtus confirmed as he put the document down. Then turning to look at both Diane and Phillip, he revealed, "You both will need to have at least one family member from your side to bear witness to the signing of this agreement."
