46 A Heart Attack

Richard didn't know that Diane could be this stubborn and tight-lipped, and would rather leave his side again than spill why she broke everything in him by the way she left him.

He refused to believe she did that simply because her family hated him and didn't want her to end up with a man not worthy of their circle and standard.

There was more to it, but she took that secret with her out of his penthouse.

~Two Days Later~

Phillip attended a function at his family's home where distinguished guests were invited, and although his family had issues with the Browns, they still showed up. This was an agreement by the two families not to let their discord out to the public.

Diane's parents were present, but she was nowhere to be found. It's not like he was expecting to see her since she rarely appeared at those kinds of functions even when they were happily married.

It was no wonder that most of the media didn't even know she was a part of the Brown family as they all thought her younger brother was the only child of their family.

Recently, it was clear of that fact after the picture her parents took with her brother on his Master's graduation from Harvard made rounds on the internet.

Holding a glass of champagne, Phillip was all smiles as he greeted the guests and got introduced by his father to the important ones important to their business.

"I am very proud of my son," Mr. Sanders said, placing a hand on Phillip's shoulder as he spoke proudly to a friend. "He is doing a good job leading the conglomerate."

Mr. Sanders' friend stole a glance at Phillip and accorded him with a smile. "He is really doing a good job taking your companies to a greater height."

"And I can't wait to retire in peace knowing that I would be leaving everything in his hands," Mr. Sanders said with a hearty laughter springing out from the pit of his belly.

Phillip managed a smile and stayed to chat a bit with their business partner before escaping with the fake smile gone from his face.

He hated the time he spent putting up appearances with those people, but of course, he wouldn't ever want to miss an opportunity to do business with them.

As he was stepping away, his gaze met with Celine and at that point, he quickly retreated his gaze and walked past her.

It was only when he was far from her that a thought dropped in his heart. 'Could she be the one threatening me with those emails?'

Almost immediately, he turned his gaze to look behind him and saw the woman smiling and chatting with another guest. But just then, his phone vibrated in his pocket.

Still distracted, he slipped it out and unlocked it before directing his gaze at it; It was a mail from his anonymous troubler. His heart skipped a beat.

He quickly glanced behind him to see Celine still chatting with the guest. 'She is not the one?'

Phillip was slowly losing his mind to this dangerous game played by whoever that bastard behind the faceless anonymous messenger was.

His life had become so unfortunate that he could barely sleep at night at the thought of what he did at the nightclub and the treats coming for him every few days.

It's like the other person swore that he would never know what peace was until his life was completely destroyed.

Just the other day, the police came to his office to meet him, showing him Angel's picture and asking about the last time he saw her as they were already aware that they were together that night at the club with a bunch of other women.

Phillip had been grateful that they still had no idea that he had stepped out with her leaving the other women behind, but it was only a matter of time before they interrogated others and heard from them about it. And till then, he wasn't going to be sleeping a wink.

Just now, his worst enemy seemed to have remembered him.

Not wanting anyone to even catch a wrinkle out of place on his face, left the ballroom and took the passage before taking the steps.

Phillip went straight to his bedroom for more privacy and locked the door next, he opened the mail he was sent to see a horrifying footage.

A black van parked at the beach and two men got down from it and opened the drunk where they carried out something like a body wrapped in a white bedsheet and threw it inside the hole that was dug before using shovels to close it.

A tingling pain struck Phillip's heart. He could hardly bear it as his entire face squeezed in pain. It was a heart attack, but he could care less about it as he struggled to type something out for the first time to send to his stubborn harasser.

"What do you want? Tell me and get the hell out of my life."

As soon as he sent that message out, Phillip dropped to the floor with one hand clutching his chest.

He felt he was at death's door. If he didn't die first from that anonymous enemy shocking him with shreds of evidence of his evil wrongdoing, then he was going to end his life when the police finally put him behind bars.

Lines appeared on Phillip's forehead as his eyes stayed glued to his phone screen. He was waiting for a response seeing that his message hadn't bounced back, and he was patient enough until a response came in almost five minutes later.

"Be kind with your words or this will be the last mail you will ever get from me. Also, if you really want your freedom from all of this mess, you will do what I tell you to immediately after my instructions come, so wait for it!"

Reading that response over and over again, Phillip groaned. It seemed like his mental abuser and blackmailer had been waiting for that kind of response since and now, he was regretting that he didn't send the message out earlier instead of enduring a torturous week.
