An Assistant

After Luliyah found about the ointments, no one had appetite. Kelvin only played with the spoon. He was angry. In fact, the food that was served on the dining table was left untouched.

Harris also didn't join them that night because he wanted to investigate. Although Mrs Binta told him to eat first, he decided to go out first.

After dinner, Luliyah and Kelvin sat in the living room. Luliyah read a book, while Kelvin was listening to the news with his eyes closed.

Suddenly, Luliyah's phone rang.

Luliyah was shocked when she heard her phone ring. She was scared because she thought it was her father that was calling her.

"Why don't you pick the call?" Kelvin asked. He felt annoyed by the loud ringtone. Either he was disturbed by the ringtone or because someone called Luliyah. He wanted her all to himself.

"I'll take the call." Luliyah answered. She was about to get up and take the call elsewhere, so she wouldn't disturb Kelvin. But before Luliyah could leave, Kelvin said softly, "Just do it here."

Hearing this, Luliyah sat down and picked the call.

"Hello." She said.

"Good evening, is this Luliyah Parker?" A stranger's voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Yes, true. Who am I speaking to?" Luliyah asked.

"We're from Rose Scent. We've seen the resume the submitted. Do you really want to apply for a job as a perfume assistant? If that's true, please come to our office tomorrow at 10 am for an interview." The man said again.

Luliyah felt very happy when she heard the man. How could she not be happy when she got the chance to work as a perfume assistant.

But the joy was cut short when she remembered her date with Kelvin. Tomorrow, they would be going on a date. 'Would Kelvin be angry if I canceled it?' Luliyah asked herself.

But she wanted this job so bad. What should she do.

"Hello? Luliyah? Can you come tomorrow for the interview?" The man asked again.

Luliyah glanced at Kelvin who sat beside her. The man had already opened his eyes. He was holding a teacup. Even if he was not looking at her, Luliyah knew that Kelvin was listening to her conversation.

In the end, Luliyah decided to answer. She couldn't miss this opportunity. "Yes, I will be there tomorrow. Thank you."

Kelvin frowned when he heard Luliyah's response. It was obvious that his wife would cancel the date with him.

Luliyah glanced at Kelvin and held the man's hand. "Kelvin... Can we go pick flowers during the day? In the night, I will make Marigold cake and juice for you."

His frown deepened. He disliked it whenever Luliyah breaks her promise, especially when it's their first date.

"The day will be too hot to pick flowers." He replied sourly. For god sake, it was their first date tomorrow.

Luliyah looked a little disappointed when she heard Kelvin's answer. Her face looked sad, "I really want this job. I applied for the position of a perfume assistant at Rose Scent since the start of the semester break. I was told to come for a job interview tomorrow by 10 am. I don't want to miss this." Luliyah said in a sad tone.

Her hand was still gently holding Kelvin's. She would try to persuade Kelvin until she succeeded.

Kelvin glanced at the woman beside him and said coldly, "Why don't you work at Amore? Why do you prefer Rose over Amore?"

Amore was a subsidiary of the Williams Group which specialized in beauty and cosmetics. However, when she heard the name Amore, Luliyah's face changed.

She tried to smile, but her smile was fake, "I don't want to work there." Luliyah answered quietly.

She didn't want to offend Kelvin, but she really didn't want to work there.

Kelvin looked at Luliyah suspiciously, as if she was hiding something from him. He didn't know why Luliyah didn't want to work at Amore. But his mind told him that she had a relationship with Amore, one way or the other. Or maybe Luliyah had applied for a job there but was rejected.

"If you want to work at Amore, I can arrange it for you." Kelvin said. Getting a job in Amore was an easy thing for him. After all, Kelvin is in control of all the Williams Group and Subsidiary Companies.

Luliyah shook her head, "No, I don't want to work for Amore. I will be very happy if I make it through tomorrow's interview." Luliyah said hopefully.

Kelvin looked at Luliyah once again and said, "If that's your dream, then go for it. Try your best. Now that it's night already, let's rest. You'll have to leave very early in the morning for your interview."

Luliyah turned her head and looked at Kelvin's face in surprise, "You've agreed?" Her hand gripped Kelvin's hand tighter.

"Hmm..." Kelvin just nodded.

"Then, how about the date tomorrow?" Luliyah timidly asked.

"I'll go to the office for a bit in the morning. Then in the afternoon, we can go to pick flowers." Kelvin calmly replied.

Being too excited, Luliyah jumped and hugged Kelvin spontaneously. Her hands were wrapped around Kelvin's neck and a big smile appeared on her face.

"Thank you." She said loudly, because she was so excited.

Kelvin was surprised for a moment, but he immediately returned the hug tightly. He buried his face on Luliyah shoulder, inhaling her fragrance. If Luliyah was happy, he will be also be happy.

She suddenly felt Kelvin's arm hugging her body. Luliyah realized what she had done. She stepped back and pulled herself away from Kelvin. However, Kelvin was not annoyed. In fact, a faint smile appeared on his face when he saw Luliyah's face.

The woman looked shy that her face was slightly blushing. It seems the woman was already noticing his existence slowly, as a man and not a friend. He really liked her shy face.

Maybe their status as lovers also helped Luliyah realize that they had a relationship that was more than just friends.

Luliyah said awkwardly, trying to cover up the shame and shyness she felt.

"I... I'm going to take a shower and sleep." After that, she quickly ran to the second floor while holding her blushing face.

Kelvin could only laugh at his wife's behavior.

That night, Luliyah slept soundly even though a lot happened that day. The call she received from Rose Scent made her forget about the incident with Martins and Natali that occurred earlier in the house.

She felt calm and safe, especially knowing that Kelvin will always protect her. She slept peacefully that night.

At 1 in the morning, Kelvin's phone vibrated. He woke up and took his phone from the lamp stand. He didn't want to disturb Luliyah's sleep. Then, he walked to the balcony and received the call.

"Yes? What are the results of the investigation?" Kelvin continued to walk to the end of the balcony, so as not to disturb his wife's sleep.
