Watching Richard’s bratty stepdaughter lose her cool and snarl would have been a memorable, defining moment before I left the mansion.

However, her mother stepped in and pulled her daughter aside and eventually sent her off. I smiled at Louvel’s sudden appearance.

“How timely. I must say you perfectly staged everything placing that innocent maid to tell me you weren’t around. Did you eavesdrop on my conversation with Richard?”

Louvel ignored my accusation. Her haughty expression challenged me to speak more of the things I didn’t like about her.

Ever since Richard married her, this house had felt different. Compared to how it was before that eventful day, the mansion felt like an empty building with cold, heartless people living inside.

The comparison wasn’t even too far off. I knew I was right.
