Joining the Marines

[Jishin's POV]

'Hmm, so looking at the current situation, my village was raided due to this pirate king's treasure, causing the seas to be run by pirates looking for the One Piece.'

'My village must have been attacked for our supplies. Looking at this marine captain who wants to recruit me to join the marines must be because of that power I just released, there is no way he would ask a young kid to join the marines.'

'I am currently too weak to get revenge, and becoming a marine is the best path for me to get stronger and find out what my power is. The marines run the sea's after all.'

"Ok, if it will help me catch pirates, then I'll join," I told him yes because this was my chance to get my revenge and I won't miss this chance.

[Kreuger's POV, 5 minutes earlier to Jishin's awakening]

"Rear Admiral Yamakaji, who am I speaking to?" Someone on the other side of the den-den mushi asked me.

" Captain Kreuger of the Pika Island Marine branch, sir" I responded respectfully simply because he was my superior.

"Hmm, why have you called me Kreuger?"

"Um, sir these pirates have burned and killed all the inhabitants of Zuki Village, but in the forest, just outside of the Village I found a boy who has eaten a devil fruit, and most likely a logia class."

"WHAT! A LOGIA!" He screamed on the other side.

This is good if I can sell it well enough I will most definitely get compensation.

"Yes sir, I am sure it was a logia he ate, the boy passed out from the use of his powers and is in the infirmary right now."

"And this boy, how old is he?"

"The boy can't be older than 8 sir." The brat looked young, I doubt he is over the age of 8.

"No older than 8 huh, that's very good. Do you happen to know the logia he ate?"

"Um, I didn't see the exact element but I did see that his hand had turned into a golden brown color." Dammit, I should have looked closer to see the element,

"Golden brown!. Do you have any idea of what you have just found!"

"Ah, no sir, I already told you I didn't see the exact element."

"You idiot, that brat has eaten the Earth Earth fruit!"

"Oh?"

"It seems you don't know what that fruit is. Kreuger whatever you do, you have to get the brat to join the marines." He told me in a commanding tone

"Of course, but isn't he a little young?"

"That's the point, if you wait he might become a pirate or something else, this way he will stay loyal to the marines. Understood?"

While what he said might have sounded like a question, I knew better.

"Sir, yes sir!"

"Good, I will see you at headquarters." He immediately cut off.

Looking at the den den mushi, I still feel a bit bitter knowing that most of my contribution is going to someone else.

[Jishin's POV]

After telling him I wanted to join the marines, Kreuger said he had to go do something, and told me to freshen up and take the marine uniform that was left out.

I turned around to see that Kreuger had opened the door.

"Did you wash up? And are you ready to leave for the island?

"Yes, I have washed up, and I am ready to leave," I replied to him as I had just finished.

"Good, now let's go. We are leaving this Island immediately, and are heading to MarineFord which is Navy Headquarters." He told me with an almost… giddy tone?

"Um, if I am just a recruit why would we be going to Navy HQ?"

"To Train you, of course, Vhahhaha."

'Good, this will give me a chance to get stronger. Based on what Captain Kreuger said earlier, it makes it seem as if there are a lot of pirates right now, and for the marines to still keep a good portion of the world safe speaks volumes of their power. This will give me the best chance to grow stronger as fast as possible. Though I wonder why they are going to train me at their Headquarters directly, it might have something to do with the power I used earlier.'

"Captain, I remember using this weird power before I fainted. Do you know what it might have been?"

"You finally asked brat, I was beginning to think you forgot. Though the answer to your question is yes. That power you used stems from something called a Devil fruit. A Devil fruit is a mysterious type of fruit that will give the eater unique powers which depend on what fruit they have eaten. There are many kinds of Devil fruits that you will learn about once we reach headquarters. Though there is a downside as there is never any free meal in life, and that downside is once someone eats a devil fruit the sea will loathe you, taking away your ability to swim."

I see it was for the power I used earlier, I must have gotten it from that disgusting fruit, for it to be this special is incredible. Wait...

"WHAT! You mean I can't swim ever again?"

"Ya, that's what I said brat." He said in an annoyed tone.

"So to make the most of me losing the ability to swim, shouldn't I consume other Devil fruits?"

"No! Never, once someone who has already eaten a Devil fruit eats another they will perish. The reason for this remains unidentified."

"Ya, I don't think I want to die anytime soon."

"Good..."

[20 Minutes Later]

We finally made it to the harbor, it took us almost 20 minutes.

What awaited me there shocked me. The sheer size of it dwarfed anything I have ever seen in my life. If I could see myself right now, it would look like a giant over an ant.

"Vahahaha, that is a marine battleship we use in our fight against pirates," Kreuger told me after seeing how awed I was by the battleship."

Looking at this battleship that is for a mere marine branch, shows that I have made the right decision to join the marines.
