Ch 24: Anti-Genjutsu

After six months of studying and training, I learned something very important.

'Genjutsu is extremely simple to counter.'

I experienced many of Itachi's and Shisui's genjutsu before, and I thought they were impossible to break.

I was half correct, and half wrong.

Their genjutsu is near impossible to break, but it is easy to block. In fact, as long as you are prepared, nearly no genjutsu can affect you.

'I say nearly because nothing is impossible in this world,' I sighed.

The most basic way to awaken a person who is affected by genjutsu is to disrupt their chakra system.

'But that only works if the genjutsu is weak and if the victim is already under genjutsu. What if the victim wants to become "immune" to genjutsu attacks?'

During my journey, I encountered many ninjas who have certain resistances and immunity to genjutsu. Some are simply born with those advantages, while others have one thing in common.

Large chakra reserves or a strong will power.

'Gaining large chakra reserves is impossible for me, and will power is not something that I understand very well either, so I had to think of another way to gain a degree of immunity to genjutsu.'

Then it hit me.

While I was practicing my genjutsu on someone, I had a thought. 'What if I cast another genjutsu on someone who is already under a gnejutsu?'

I didn't know the answer, so I tried it. The result was failure. Thinking it was a fluke, I tried again and again, failing one after another until I arrived at a conclusion.

'To use genjutsu on someone who is already under the effects of one, you first have to undo the genjutsu that is already cast. The other method is to simply use an overwhelmingly powerful genjutsu, a genjutsu that has to be at least twice as powerful than the genjutsu that is already active.'

I learned this about a year after I started my journey, and since then, I developed a technique to increase this interesting effect.

'If someone wants to overwrite a genjutsu cast using the "Anti-Genjutsu" technique I have developed, they have to at least use a genjutsu that is ten times more powerful than the one I cast!'

Ironically, this was the technique that I trained the most during my one and a half year of training. And it was a good thing too, because it was working just fine to keep Itachi at bay and make way for me and Fang to escape.

'Speaking of Itachi's battle, Gray Wind is useful in times like this. If only he was loyal to me,' I couldn't help but wish.

My genjutsu technique, "Illusion of Wrath," was originally meant to improve the victim's potential.

Under its effects, the victim is able to subconsciously use his chakra at near 100% efficiency. To do this, the victim's subconscious will force their body to conjure the desired effect, destroying the victim's body in the inside. This is why the genjutsu had the side-effect of blurring the victim's mind, turning them into wrathful monsters.

Even if Gray Wind wins, he'll have the lifespan of a fly.

Furthermore, because their thoughts are jumbled, it further amplified my Anti-Genjutsu, though I don't know how much more powerful a genjutsu has to be to overwrite it.

I myself cannot overwrite the Illusion of Wrath. In fact, I can't even dispel it.

The Anti-Genjutsu worked in many ways, but one of the main things it does is resist the deactivation of the genjutsu it was cast with. In order to dispel a genjutsu used with the Anti-Genjutsu, you have to use the same amount of chakra as the genjutsu required to overwrite it.

In simpler words, you need to use 10 chakra scrolls to dispel a genjutsu that only needs 1 chakra scroll.

'Anti-Genjutsu is probably the most ironic name I could give this technique.'
