CHAPTER 45

Susan dipped the white towel into the bowl and wriggled it, watching in distaste as the water turned red. Cleaning somebody's injury was not on the list of things she planned to do, but she couldn't help it when William showed up in front of her house with a severed bruised lip and a bruised cheek. 

Her lips formed a thin line when the man groaned as she tried to dap the towel on his injury to clean the blood, "What did you say happened to you again?"

"I was robbed on my way back from a friend's house." 

"Did you get into a fight with the robbers?"

"What? No! I was only trying to reason with them." William's eyes closed as she brought the towel close to her lips
