Making Mistakes

Archana had an awful past. Her past always prohibited her from moving ahead in her life. According to her, her family includes a nagging mother-in-law who gets immense pleasure from giving her a tough time (but the fact comes out to be something else at the end of the story); a teenage daughter who seeks pleasure in breaking all the social norms that society has penned down for the girls' safety; and a husband for whom her mother had never accepted. Every character here makes some mistake or other, and then uses all their strength to hide them from the world. Everyone is terrified of being branded. But every secret is revealed before everyone, one after one.

Chapter-4

It was literally shocking and sad news to me that my little angle was considered second to the monster by the domestic staff. When my daughter got a huge fan of annoying the staff more and more with her bloody tricks. And she did it so deftly that I couldn't catch her at any point, despite staying at home all day. Perhaps it had become her challenge to play pranks on others without getting caught.

After some time, she developed another weird game to entertain herself. That was to make false complaints about others and get them punished by their grandmother or me frequently. And she used to do everything in a very calculated and manipulative manner. Furthermore, she did not approach her father with her problems at any point; she knew that he would not count on her just like that and would react to her complaints and try to find out everything , and she would be quickly caught in her own trap. As well, she also ensured whatever had happened at home in Ravi's absence did not reach his ear ever. So it could be said, day by day, she was getting brutal. She used to get immense pleasure when the staff were punished on her fake grievance. And in time It became her one of the favorite game.

Other than that, she had started threatening them with dire consequences for everything they did as well. They all got totally fed up with her escalating nuisances. And she said hurtful things as well. Eventually, when things went beyond their tolerance one day, a few of them reached Ravi's office and related all her mischief, requesting him to intervene in the matter, or they could not continue to work at his home. They also intimated that Madam got into her words quickly and she did not listen to their side of the story either.

Ravi reassured them, saying everything would be fine soon. They only gave him a little more time right now because he was so preoccupied with his important project. He then returned them to their home. But he didn't understand why he needed to talk to me about it. He, too, believed that I would not listen to anyone like this when the subject was related to my daughter. Throughout, he acted in the same manner that he had previously, and the staff acted similarly. Similarly, Reema continued with her pranks, not realizing that her father was watching her those days and complaining that everything had been done.

Then, one day, Ravi invited all of us to watch the movie together. All the staff had been called to watch the movie together with us. It was happening for the first time, so it seemed a little weird to all of us. I agreed to postpone until later at his request. We all sat together, and the video went on for an hour. It captured all the pranks that Reema had played on staff and others. I truly could not believe in my eyes how she ordered the staff to clean his dirty shoes and kept standing as long as she did not tell him to leave the place. In a fit of anger, she threw the hot magi on one of the staff members in a fit of anger because he took a little more time to bring Maggi and called him names. She enjoyed making fun of them and enjoyed calling their names. After the movie was finished, he left for the office in no time, looking toward me. He did, however, issue a warning.

''These things must not happen again in this house at any cost; otherwise, I will not take the time to send Reema to boarding school for the rest of her life. And please stop supporting her for the wrong reason. You are also spoiling her image because you believe her blindly. "

I was shook from the inside out the moment he mentioned putting her into boarding school. I could not think of separating my daughter from me. Truly speaking, it would be a harsher punishment for me than for her. Reema was also sweating profusely all the time. It had never come into her mind that she would be exposed like that someday. She was ashamed of being trapped, and suddenly she broke down and began to cry bitterly. She was scared that she would be penalised at any moment. And I was standing there still and shocked. It was not easy for me to imagine that my daughter, whom I always considered an angel, could act as a devil and turn others' lives into hell. At one moment, I saw the reflection of her biological father on her. I was getting more and more scared inwardly. At moment I felt like giving her a tight slap on her for but the next moment I stopped myself. But I gave her a good scold,

"Shame on you. How can you be so brutal and give such a tough time to your people who takes such a good care of you? You disgraced your father's name and me before everyone. Now no more. I will count on you. Ask them for sorry right now and promise me you will never make such a mistake. "

I could see grudgingly she asked them for sorry. There after they went back to their respective work and I headed to upstairs leaving Reema there only. We were furious at Reema, but my mother-in-law consoled her by saying that if she cried too much, she would become ill. She went on to say that while it is common for children to make such mistakes, it does not mean that parents should publicly chastise their only child before the domestic staff. I had the impression she was inciting my daughters to rebel against their parents. Instead of forcing her to admit her errors, she was supporting her for the wrong reasons. .At one point, I considered turning around and yelling at her to stop teaching my daughter the wrong things. It didn't take me long to realise that she was the one who encouraged her wrongdoing every time.

Anyway, after some time, Reema approached me and said, "sorry." I could not be abrasive to her any longer, melted immediately, and hugged her tightly. After that, she assured me that she would show me how to be a nice girl whom everyone liked and praised. I was aware she was saying all those things to make me feel comfortable right then; otherwise, she did not mean them. But yes, after that episode, I learned one crucial lesson. I did not forget to delve into the whole truth before reacting to someone's complaint, even if the complaint was made by my own daughter. Consequently, Reema also knew that she did not dare mess up with the staff further or the consequences would fall heavily on her.
