5 Cody

Cody stared wide eyed at Connor's family's mansion. Talk about a ridiculous display of wealth. Many places were still in tatters after the Tempest, yet here was fresh paint and well kept landscape. He felt even more out of place now. How much damage would that photo cause anyway? He couldn't afford to get kicked out of the school or lose his scholarship yet, there was still work to be done.

However he also hated doctors. Ever since he had gotten duo elements doctors had wanted to constantly poke and prod him. Luckily his current employer had come along and saved him from becoming a permanent lab rat. Well he couldn't afford to let them down over one doctor visit now could he. Grudgingly he opened the car door and got out.

The effects of using his other element were still troubling. It was a lot less now that some time had passed though. Getting poked by some random doctor brother of a crazy blackmailing basketball player was a new one for his list. Was his brother even a legit doctor? He could use his bright element if necessary but that would definitely knock him out of action for the next few days if he did.

He gritted his teeth as Connor came over and grabbed his arm taking him into the castle like house. The inside was just as fancy as the outside. Ornate paintings and other trinkets that apparently hadn't all been destroyed by the monsters and the Tempest lined the walls.

"Bro you're home!" an older looking version of Connor entered the room. He paused looking Cody over. "You should have called and said you were bringing a guest! I'll tell the cook to make an extra meal."

Cody spoke up, "Oh that isn't a problem, I won't be staying too long."

"Ah-hem" muttered Connor poking Cody's back. "That would be great if you'd tell them to add an extra set. Also Kyle if you have time would you be willing to check him over?"

"Is something wrong with him?" asked Kyle turning to look Cody over more thoroughly.

"No" said Cody at the same time as Connor said "Possibly."

Kyle paused, "Well for starter's you should make up your minds."

Connor coughed "Photo." And Cody winced.

Giving Connor a glare he said to Kyle, "I'd appreciate if you could check me over."

Kyle eyed his brother slightly at the exchange between the two. "Very well come upstairs I have a room set up for patients. Connor would you notify the kitchen staff of our guest."

Connor disappeared and Cody followed Kyle.

"It's really not necessary, I am fine. If you could tell your brother that I'd be grateful. I would hate to waste your time." Cody said.

"It's obvious there is something considering your left hand hasn't stopped shaking since I've met you." Replied Kyle. Darn thought Cody, this guy was good. The silly after affects were still making his left hand where he tended to use ice magic from tremble.

"Here," said Kyle opening a door. The room was decently sized and looked basically like a doctor's office. Cody walked in and Kyle tossed him a pencil, he caught it in surprise.

"Hold that for ten seconds without trembling and I'll tell Connor you're fine. Fail and you have to tell me everything, deal?" Kyle asked.

Ten seconds he could probably do that. He picked up the pencil and focused hard on keeping his hand still. He just had to temporarily block the flow of the Majikku within him. Unfortunately it seems he had overestimated how much he had recovered. He blocked it for 7 seconds then a wave of pain hit him as his dark element threw his body all out of whack again.

His head spun and he ended up half dropping to the floor while catching himself with one hand on a nearby chair. He paused for a few seconds till his head cleared and got back to his feet. He cursed slightly under his breath and looked back toward Kyle.

His demeanor had changed from a slightly interested but mostly ignoring Cody to a complete focus on him with some concern. "Your element is all out of whack, what happened to you?" Kyle asked.

Cody debated coming up with a lie, then sighed this doctor was good he probably wouldn't get out of it with a lie. "I'm a duo mage." He muttered finally. This seemed to perk his interest. Connor had said earlier that Kyle had worked with other duo mages in the past.

"Can I build a standard profile on you?" asked Kyle.

"And that includes what exactly?" Cody replied.

Kyle smirked, "all the standard doctor stuff, client privilege of course it won't be shared with anyone unless you are dying in front of them or agree to it. Although without it I won't be able to give you much of any recommendations. Also am I right to assume Connor has something on you since you didn't seem interested in coming here."

Cody nodded. This guy clearly also knew his brother's ways.

"Well I'll leave that up to you. I'll tell him I had a look at you either way. I am looking at you right now." He smirked with his own wording the problem away answer.

Cody paused thinking. His job had assigned him a doctor but he never went in unless he needed something he couldn't get over the counter. It had been awhile since anyone checked him out. He also liked that this guy seemed to know what he was doing better than the average doctor. It was possible he might actually be able to help him regarding duo mages. Then again he had been fine on his own so far did he really need someone else to tell him that he needed to go rest for a bit?

After about a minute he slowly nodded his head. He'd allow this guy to touch him. "Only a few standard tests though." He muttered.

Kyle's exam was a lot like a physical. The only thing truly different was that he had a Majikku monitor that allowed him to look at the elements of people.

"Lay down." Kyle said after having Cody take his shirt off. The padded couch thing in this room was quite soft. With the monitor he could see the bright element Cody kept near his right hand and shoulder. His ice element had slightly fused with his dark element by his left shoulder.

Elements were collections of Majikku collected by a mage type person. They formed different elements and a body naturally collected the ones that matched their type. That was the main difference between magic users and normal humans now.

"That connection is the problem with your hand still shaking." Said Kyle thoughtfully. He pulled out some glasses examining the dark and ice element further. "Have you ever had to use Waycoa crystals?"

"Only when I first became a mage." Cody replied. Like all of the duo element users still alive he always had them on him. Out of his pocket he showed his set to Kyle. "I prefer to avoid them since they ruin your concentration later."

"That's a good mindset, if you rely on them too much they become less effective." Kyle replied. "Focus on disconnecting those two and you should be fine. You should also take tomorrow off from school." He eyed Cody's uniform from Sky Academy.
