7 "Ah, So he is dead."

"Shit! I just called him monster. Am I going to die because of that?" Mila panicked while she curled under her blanket.

Christopher didn't respond to Mila's harsh words and just sat beside Mila's bed.

Although there was no hostility nor any kind of reaction from the child, Mila still cowered in fear.

Her body can't stop trembling as her feet and palms become cold while her body sweats.

Christopher knows that his dragon form plucked out Mila's left eye and doesn't have any excuse to say. He badly wants to apologize, but with Mila's state, his apology won't help, and it may make Mila's state worse. Christopher would just receive whatever punishment or harsh treatment he thought he deserved.

"There is no way a child in a fantasy novel is normal! He might pluck my eyes again! "

She started to cry again and felt her left eye hurt.

"I want to go home!"

Mila keeps screaming without making a sound. She buried her face in her pillows while still under the blanket.

Before, Mila thought the transmigration novel was so magical and was the best thing for a soul after death, but she can't accept her current situation. She was not sure what happened to her original body, and returning was the only thing she wanted.

"What if I kill myself now? Will I be back? But dying is painful and I am not sure if there is a body I can return to!" She continues to cry as soon as she realizes that she needs to first confirm if there's a body she can return to.

"Wait? The original Mila died of depression! And I am feeling depressed right now!" Mila jolted up from curling and stood straight on the bed, throwing her blanket away.

"M-mother?" Christopher was surprised and looked up at his mother. "Oh no! Your eyes!" Christopher shouted after seeing her mother's bandages soaked in blood. Christopher wanted to take care of his mother, but Mila ignored him and was too focused on her own monologue.

"Depression will kill me! I cannot die until I make sure that I can return!" Mila ignored her throbbing left eye and shouted in full determination. She needs to stay positive to stay alive.

"But I am not strong!" She crouched down again while pulling hard on her black wavy hair. Mila is having a hard time coping. Acting positively and convincing herself to be okay is easy, but she's not sure if she will remain sane.

"M-mother, what's wrong?"

Christopher was about to touch Mila when he halted.

Mila is now looking straight into his eyes with so much fear.

"Y-you won't kill me, right?" Mila asked while stuttering.

"I won't! I will never, mother!" Christopher exclaimed. "I have full control over my dragon! I won't harm anyone anymore! Promise! So, please..." Christopher hesitates for a moment before continuing his statement, but with a lower tone. "Please, please, give me a chance and don't kick me out."

Mila suddenly wavers.

She was blinded with fear for just a while, but now that she had a closer look at the child, she thought maybe the child was a victim as well. A victim of the author's imagination and a victim of the creator of this world.

"I..." I need to get used to you." Mila said while opening up her arms. "Come here."

Christopher's eyes shake after seeing his mother ask for a hug.

His eyes became teary and he slowly moved forward.

"M-mother." He hugged Mila back and buried his face in Mila's chest. "Please... please don't hate me."

Mila also saw the fear and sadness in the child's eyes after Christopher looked up at her.

She bit her lips as she felt guilty for treating him harshly, then hugged Christopher even tighter.

"I'm sorry." She mumbled.

"No! mother! I should be the one apologizing! " Christopher exclaimed.

"No." Mila bluntly responded. She lay on the bed while Christopher was still in her arms. She so tightly held onto him that they ended up lying together.

"I will call the doctor!" Christopher was about to stand, but Mila pulled him down again.

"No. Let's sleep. I am used to the pain now." Mila wrapped her arms around Christopher and leaned her head against the child.

They both became silent and only breathing could be heard, but both the mother and son had two different thoughts in their minds that spoke louder with their hearts.

"I'll protect mother!"

"I'll make Christopher a normal child!"

With this determination, the two slowly fell asleep, feeling each other's worries and, surprisingly, finding comfort in each other.

Moments later, Robert went back inside the duchess's room.

"It seems they have made up."

He commented with a smile.

He picked up and rang a golden bell from the side table, and almost instantly, a maid and a butler came into the room.

"Oh no, her bandages!" The plain woman gasped after seeing the bloodied bandages of the duchess.

She hurriedly walked out of the room again to call the doctor while the butler was about to pick up Christopher from Mila's arm.

"Leave him here." Mila suddenly spoke, and that made the butler flinch. She used to sleep like a log, but now she reacts to every slight movement because of how wary she is in this world.

"But Duchess, we need to check your wound." The butler let go of Christopher and let it rest on Mila's arms.

"No need." Mila said bluntly to the butler, then focused her gaze on Robert. "Where is my husband though?" Mila asked because it is strange for a duchy without a duke, and she also needs to prepare if ever the duke is another devilish character.

"What? Don't tell me he is dead." Mila said because both Butler and Robert didn't respond to her.

"M-mila." Robert seemed not to know what to say and looked at Mila with concern.

"Ah, So he is dead." She just concluded.
