1 I Met A Greek Deity

Chapter One: I Met A Greek Deity

Alexandria's POV

There was one thing I found the most comfort in and that was roaming around the house half naked. It was one of the perks of living all by myself. Plus it also saved me the stress of laundry.

Lost in thoughts, I lounged on the bean bag across my room wearing shorts only. My bra and shirt were neatly kept away in my wardrobe.

I stared at the date on my phone with a smile between sad and happy. It was the 12th of July which meant my rent was due in 19 days. A tear slid down my face as I estimated the remaining money in my bank account. Once the month was over, I would have virtually no money left for feeding let alone rent.

I had forfeited my job as a receptionist at Dialle Motors eight months ago, simply because I had declined the invitation to sleep with my boss. He tried to harass me severally but I always found a way to escape. Out of frustration, he gave me an ultimatum — it was either I become his mistress, or I lose my job. I chose the latter.

It wasn't even the fact that he wanted me to become his mistress that irritated me— I mean, I do not mind being a mistress of a hot millionaire but, It was because he had a wife who was the sweetest woman alive. She was so kind and humble that if you did not see her in the news, you would never know that she was the wife of Mr. Redrodialle.

Now, I worked part-time at a small convenience store run by an old lady and her granddaughter with very little pay. The pay was meant to cover my feeding expenses only but it still wasn't enough despite the that that I barely ate any food. Maybe surviving on organic and healthy food only was more expensive than the regular food eaten by the masses.

My phone vibrated against my palm and the caller ID indicated that it was Layla— my best friend. With enthusiasm, I swiped the green button up to answer her call.

"Lexi!" She exclaimed. "Guess what?"

"What," I rolled my eyes, smiling.

"So I might have found you a job," she said.

"Wow, really?"

"Yes," she paused, then cleared her throat. "Norman's Technology is hiring!"

"Oh," I muttered. "Um, you know the only kind of job I can do, right?" I asked. Apart from being a secretary, receptionist or anything along those lines, I could not work in the technology industry.

"Well, it's not your line of work but… it's something anyone can do," she told me.

"And what is that?"

"They need cleaners!" She said. "Look I know…"

"What in the world made you think of me!" I cried.

"Because the pay is probably ten times your current pay," she chuckled. "Anyways, I applied for you. It was the last spot. Make sure you're there by seven o'clock in the morning. Mr. Norman detests lateness."

"Okay…" I drawled. "Thanks, but no thanks."

"Oh please."

"Um, the offer to live with you is still available right?" I asked jokingly.

"Of course! I'd even pay you if you'll take care of my Nana."

I laughed lightly, "Thanks a lot."

"Anytime, bye."

"Bye, love you."

"I love you too," she said then cut the call.

I stood up and walked out of my room and then into the kitchen. I opened my fridge and took out an apple. I rinsed it and took a bite. I couldn't afford to eat a proper dinner not only because of lack of money but also because I did not want to become the old me from elementary and high school.

The ring of my alarm beneath my pillow compelled me to jerk awake. I sighed and scratched

my eyes sleepily before turning off the alarm. I stared at the clock and wondered why I set a four a.m. alarm on a Friday morning. Suddenly it clicked. The interview.

I jolted from my bed and sprinted to the bathroom. I was still half naked from last night so all I had to do was pull down my shorts. I had to have a cold shower — not in the way you think— to reduce my bills. After that, I dried myself and tied a towel around my chest then waddled out of the bathroom to pick out something to wear.

I glanced through my closet filled with business-like clothes like five times then sighed in dismay. Since I was going for an interview to be a cleaner, I did not have to look flashy.

I secretly thought of what my high school and college friends would have said. I mean, when I thought of it, it sounded crazy. Being tested to be a cleaner.

I still wondered why on earth I had to be quizzed to be a cleaner. I was going to be sweeping and mopping floors. Perhaps dusting furniture. I was not going to be typing documents or anything of the sort. Except you need extremely special skills to clean.

My raven-coloured hair was a mess piled up on my head. I stared at the reflection of my naked self in the mirror contemplating whether to keep my hair in a tight bun or let my long hair, fall down my shoulders. I resolved on a tight bun, so I waxed my hair to keep it together but did not leave some hair at the edges to gel into style as I'd do on any other day.

I decided to wear a white shirt and light blue jeans because it was modest and easy on the eyes— although a complete contrast to my almost professional hairstyle. I picked out a converse which was supposed to be white but was more of a cream colour now to wear. After that, I coated my lips with pink lipgloss and pinched my cheeks for colour.

I arrived at Norman's technology at 6:47 a.m. After my bag was inspected thoroughly, and I was permitted entrance to the enormous land mass, I was provided directions and even advised to take a cab to the building where the interview was supposed to be held.

I boarded one with three other people and was glad I had the passenger's seat and wasn't huddled up like the rest of them. The cab driver was a middle-aged man with a patched eye and he sang along to Hurts So Good by Astrid S. Surprisingly, he had a good voice.

I deluded myself into thinking I was in a movie so I looked out the window and took my time to admire the glass-like structures which rose to the sky. I could see blurred figures of people shuffling about in the offices. Everything about the place was phenomenal although very much anticipated.

Ornamental flowers and trees thrived by the sidewalk. They seemed to whoosh past us seated in the cab.

When it was 6:50, the driver swerved into a garage and collected our fares before unlocking the doors of the car. He wished us good luck and then hollered loudly to get new passengers.

There were two men, one old and the other young. Each of them carried a backpack. I started to feel sceptical about my almost empty hands but sighed in relief when I saw that the last person from the cab— a lady— only had a purse with her. Just like me.

We hurried to the entrance of what seemed to be the largest building I had seen so far just to rush through the sliding glass doors one after another. It seemed like everyone was struggling not to be late. I stepped back to let the old man go in before I did and crashed into someone behind me.

I was held tightly from behind by strong arms. I became weak in the knee and dizzy when the person's hot breath fanned my neck. That was one heck of a turn-on. I recuperated quickly from the shock of that and was about to mutter a hasty thanks to the person but my mouth was left hanging in shock when I turned around and looked up to see the man of my fantasies.

Up until then, I didn't know that a man as perfect as the ones portrayed in novels existed. How could a person be that appealing to the eye?

He had a chiselled jaw line with perfectly slanted cheekbones— all at the right angle. His eyes were hooded and pitch black— a perfect match to his jet ebony hair. He gave off a billionaire's vibe.

His lips… I wondered how soft they were. His raven-coloured hair was styled in soft waves. I was tempted to remove the strands of hair on his face.

The man sculpted by a Greek deity gave me a blank stare.

"Are you okay?" He asked. His face was still void of any emotions. I wanted to take it as a good sign.

"Yes," I whispered.

He let go of my arms. By the way, I was already weak in the knees from seeing a human so tantalizing that I fell to the ground. He held out his hand and I took it shyly— quite embarrassed. Then he dragged me up effortlessly.

"T-thank you," I said stuttering then withdrawing my hands from his warm palm.

I turned round to face the sliding doors which opened, and walked in, followed by the hot species of a human.

The room seemed tense at his entrance and everyone stood up and gave a bow.

"Good morning Mr. Norman," they chanted.

I almost died of PTSD.

Did I have that encounter with him?

How did I not know he was the one?
