Society and Soul

None of the Quidditch teams dared to continue with their fight, after all, they weren't even able to react at Matthew's casting speed. In the end, the Slytherins had no choice other than to cut their losses. They took Malfoy and the unconscious Warrington and carried them in direction of the medical Wing to Madame Pomfrey.

Once the Slytherin Quidditch Team was out of sight Matthew turned in direction of Ron and glared at him, "Did you need to attack him?"

"But he called her a Mudblood!" complained Ron while some of the Gryffindors nodded.

"It was just Words. Nothing more than a Reflection of his Jealousy of Hermione. If you lower yourself to his Level you are not better than him. Look at Hermione she stayed calm."

"But— "

"There is nothing you could say that justifies Violence on a School ground. You may not know it but some of you would have gotten seriously hurt if I didn't block the Curses. There were some nasty dark curses amongst them, that could have sent you to St. Mungos. Would that have been worth it?" asked Matthew as he stared at the Gryffindors.

"No. I am sorry for starting a fight." Muttered Ron a bit downcast, but he still didn't believe he shouldn't have attacked Malfoy.

"You should visit McGonagall and tell her what happened here. The Slytherin will definitely inform Professor Snape. Ron will most likely get a detention but it is better than letting Professor Snape handle the Situation."

"You are right. Let's head for Professor McGonagall before they arrive with Snape. Can you take care of Hermione?" replied Wood.

"Yes, I will. You also should explain to Harry what the whole situation was about. He looks pretty confused." Said Matthew as the Gryffindor Team left to find Professor McGonagall.

"Are you ok Hermione?"

"I don't know. Why is the Wizarding Society so backward?" asked the young girl with a sad look in her eyes.

"It's a complex topic. Like I told you when I met you for the first time. The Wizarding Society is a completely different world with different traditions and cultural values. While we are still in Britain at the same time we are not. And most Muggleborns didn't understand that and followed the values they believed in. This created discord between the people and over the centuries changed to hate. No matter what our values are how we believe they are better we have no right to force them on them and change their culture. Instead, Muggleborns should have created new things and added them to their culture instead of forcing their Culture to change. Changing Yule to Christmas and Samhain to Halloween as Dumbledore does in Hogwarts is the wrong way, and will only create conflict." Explained Matthew as he thought about the mistakes Society did in his past life that only split Humankind up.

"But I did nothing of that sort." Complained Hermione.

"No, you didn't. You and I are just experiencing the results of the choices of our seniors. Draco isn't a bad person, he just grew up with hate his Parents developed over time. And trust me this is not unique to the Wizarding World. In the Non-Magical World, there are also people trying to enforce their values on others and the result is never pretty. No matter how you believe you are right. Don't let his words hurt you. He just didn't know better. We just should do our best to accept their Culture while introducing ours to theirs. And one day we may even be able to heal the rift created by forcing acceptance." Hermione was now visibly calmer as Matthew patted her on the shoulders.

"Thank you, Matthew. That helped."

~ Scene Break ~

In the end, both the Gryffindors and Slytherins got Detentions for the fight, while Matthew got awarded points for de-escalating the Conflict. Harry had a look of despair on his face since he had to help Lockhart with his Fan-mail on Saturday.

Matthew once again fell into the calmness of the School year, the only noteworthy events where Harry heard a voice after detention, which meant Ginny woke the Basilisk of Salazar Slytherin up. Matthew was able to witness how Ginny's Soul began to weaken. But it wasn't a constant process, it seem to only happen when she was directly communicating with the Horcrux inside the Diary. The Soul seems to be deeply connected to the Emotions of the Person, and this was what the Diary exploited.

The other was an Invitation to the 500th Death Day Party of the Almost-Headless Nick the House Ghost of Gryffindor. Harry asked him if he wanted to join them, after all, he himself wasn't really a fan of the idea of going there himself. For Matthew, it was actually an interesting opportunity. His understanding of Ghosts was limited. What were they? Souls? A part of a Soul? Something else? For him, it was a unique Opportunity with many research subjects. Not to mention the knowledge and experience all the Ghosts held themselves. Helena Ravenclaw was almost a thousand years old, all the things she must have seen. But she was an elusive Ghost even for the Members of her own house. This would be a nice opportunity to get closer to her.

Currently, he was inside his House Trunk, he sat in a meditative pose on his bed. After a while, he opened his eyes. "I did it!" muttered Matthew to himself. He completed the third Part of his Occlumency technique, the part concerning his Soul.

Now that he completed it he could control all aspects of his own Soul. Not only was he able to empower his magic with the energy inside his Soul, but there were also many other things he could do now. Like Using his Soul Force to shield his Soul from outside magic, like the Unforgivable s. Yes, if he had enough strength in his Soul remaining he was able to resist the Killing Curse. Which would serve as a nice trump card against Voldemort. Also, he could not only empower his magic but anything that required energy, like healing.

Another thing he now always consciously felt was the State of his Soul, it even felt as he could his Soul to move outside of his Body. But that was one of the things he didn't dare to do for now, since he didn't have enough information about what would happen to him. It would be really stupid if he couldn't return to his Body and was Stuck outside of it. Although it would be cool if he had something like an Astral Form similar to the Sorcerers in the MCU, but it was different they were still connected to their Body. Matthew felt he could leave it completely.

The only information he had about it, was Voldemort s Wraith Form and Possession abilities. Since he had Voldemort s memories well at least a pretty actual Version of them. He knew that his ability to possess others was a side-effect of the Horcrux Ritual. The Ritual turned his Body into a Soul Vessel itself and anchored a part of his into it. But through the splitting, his soul became very versatile which allowed him to develop the ability to possess others, at least temporary and only long term if they didn't resist.

But that was different from Matthew, there was no permanent Connection between his Body and Soul once he left it. All of this was a completely unexplored field of magic for him, he wasn't even sure if he could call it magic since he didn't use magical energy to control his Soul. Rather he used his Soul to control Magic. At least he had a few points of Research he could use to further explore this new research topic, like the Ghosts or Voldemort s Wraith form.
