DADA with Gilderoy Lockhart

Once Matthew, Roger, Harold, and Blake reached Lockhart's DADA Classroom, Matthew immediately lead them for seats in the Last Row under the baffled look of his friends. Usually, they sat in the first Row because they were Ravenclaw so this was a bit of a shock for them.

"Ehm, why do we sit in the last row?" asked Blake with a questioning Look at Matthew.

"There is no Chance we will learn anything in this class. Here we at least can do something else like study our own books or do Homework without getting his attention. And trust me if my gut feeling is right, you will thank me later." Explained Matthew while he remembered how Lockhart in the Books called Students to play out his Books.

While they waited for Lockhart to arrive Matthew looked around the DADA Classroom. Different from the last years, rather than a Classroom for Defense it became an Art exhibit with Lockhart as the Main Model. The Walls were decorated with Moving Portraits of the Blond Idiot. To be honest it wouldn't be a Surprise if Lockhart had put a Marble Statue of himself in the Classroom.

After a while, the doors to the personal Chamber of the DADA Teacher which was connected to the Classroom through a set of stairs opened, and the blond fraud stood at top of it with his disgusting charming Smile, in a pompous pose to show off. He began his class as he headed down the Stairs in a manner of Showmanship. "Welcome to this year's fourth year DADA Course. Your teacher…"

At the bottom of the Stairs, he headed for one of their Classmate' tables and picked up one of the Copies of Voyages with Vampires and held it up to show his own, winking portrait on the front. "…Me. Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five-time winner of Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award but I don't talk about that. I didn't get rid of the Bandon Banshee by smiling at her!"

He waited for them to laugh; a few people smiled weakly. While some of the Girls looked smitten.

"I see you've all bought a complete set of my books — well done. I thought we'd start today with a little quiz. Nothing to worry about — just to check how well you've read them, how much you've taken in —"

When he had handed out the test papers he returned to the front of the class and said, "You have thirty minutes — start —now!"

Matthew read the content of the Test, and they were filled with useless questions of trivia about Gilderoy Lockhart, just like in the Books. He sighed in disappointment as he took a look at his Roommates, who also stared at the Questions in disbelieve. He obviously could fill in the Test seriously since he tested his new area book scanning spell secretly out in Flourish and Blotts, and with that gained also all the Content of Lockharts Books unwillingly. But where would be the fun in that?

He spent half an hour filling the Test with long Answers full of Nonsense. There was no way Lockhart would have enough time to correct them in the Lesson today. 'If he needs to waste my time, So will I waste his.' That was the thought Matthew had.

After half an hour he collected the Tests and began to check them in Front of the Class while commenting about their Contents. He skipped over Matthew's test while replying he would have to correct it later. Once he finished skimming through the test he continued with the Lesson.

To Matthew's disappointment, Lockhart wasn't incompetent enough to try making the Lesson about Cornish Pixies in a fourth-year class. Instead, he retold them about 'his' travels with Vampires. The rest of the Lesson was an absolute boring waste of time. Well, at least Lockhart still could keep up his facade of being a competent Wizard since he didn't get wrecked by Cornish Pixies although the majority of his class already began to doubt him.

"Can you believe he gave us a Quiz about himself? How arrogant can a Person Be?" complained Harold on their way to Lunch. Why Matthew listened to the discussion of his friends with a face that said 'I told you so'.

~ Scene Break ~

Well, Lockhart could keep his dignity until his second Lesson, in Harry's Class he used the Pixies for his Lesson and got trashed by them. This was just the excuse Matthew waited for. After his Classes in the Afternoon, he headed for Professor Flitwick's Office and knocked on the Door.

"Come in." Came a voice from the inside after a few moments and Matthew opened the Door.

"Hello Professor Flitwick." Greeted Matthew his head of House.

"Ah, Mr. Mason come sit down. Biscuit?" offered the small Professor as Matthew sat down in front of his desk.

"No Thank you, Sir."

"So, What can I do for you today?" asked the Professor with his squeaky voice.

"I would like to have the Permission to engage in Self-Study instead of attending DADA Lessons this year. We both know there will be nothing for any Student to learn since Lockhart is obviously a fraud." Explained Matthew.

"I see." Replied Flitwick while thinking about the Request, "I understand where you are coming from. Lockhart is a very controversial Choice even among the Professors, but it was a lack of better options that allowed him to become the new DADA Teacher or rather he was the only candidate this year. If it were my decision I would permit your Request, since you are an outstanding student and I have no doubt you would use the Time wisely. Unfortunately only the Headmaster can make that decision according to official School Regulations. Let me quickly write a Letter with a Recommendation from myself. And then you can ask him yourself."

Professor Flitwick wrote a short note for Headmaster Dumbledore before handing it to Matthew. "Do you know where the Headmaster Office is?" asked the small Professor.

"Yes behind the Gargoyle Statue in the Gargoyle Corridor on the third floor." Nodded Matthew.

"Correct. The Password is 'Center Shock'. Once the Gargoyle begins to move stand on one of the Stairs and it will take you upwards. Good day to you Mr. Mason I hope the Headmaster will grant your request." Explained Professor Flitwick as he led Matthew out of his Office.

Once Matthew was outside of the Office he began heading for the third floor while being in his thoughts. 'So it was finally time to meet Dumbledore. I dodged that particular meeting for a long time.' He thought, 'Well at least I finally will be able to see the Phoenix Fawkes for myself. A good Chance to finally scan it.'

Well sooner or later he would have to meet Dumbledore, why not leave a good impression now. Matthew was nervous about this Meeting, the People in his Old World had many different Opinions about Dumbledore. Some saw him as a Dark Lord, others as senile, or so engrossed in the greater Good that he forgot what really mattered. The most likely option was that the political Situation and the Circumstances were so bad that he had no other option for his Choices. The Wizarding World Matthew lived in was to his Knowledge Canon, not an Alternate Version so his Dumbledore should be the same. An old man that had to make many hard decisions in his tragic Life.
