Chapter 17: Shackles on Humanity

It was a bit into the next day, when Race woke up. He had expected to feel bone rending pain after yesterday's mishap. But he was surprised to feel his body rejuvenated. " Strange, why do I feel stronger. So the energy is beneficial for the body. But why did my body disintegrate the mana I collected."

Race was completely surprised by the fact something in the human body was able to break mana into an even purer form of Energy. " But there is something more important to check", Race spoke to himself as he ran out of the room to confirm that he was still in the same ship.

" Good, I wasn't moved this time". Race sighed. He checked the time. "Breakfast is still 2 hrs away, i should try to understand yesterday's phenomenon." Race once again began to concentrate, as he began to make those movements from yesterday. But instead of completely filling the mana circuit like last time, he stopped after taking in much smaller amount of mana. He once again began to condense a Mana bolt and immediately something in his body affected the mana in his body disintegrating the mana in his body into the pure energy.

" I knew it. It is as if the human body has acquired the ability to breakdown mana. Is it a natural evolution or did someone place a curse on humanity. I should look into it. After all there will be no way that humanity will give up the ability to control mana on their own. Maybe there could be something in the myths that were used to be passed down in the ancestral planet."

Race then commanded the AI to search all the myths and folklore concerning magic from the Ancestral Planet. " 1,064,800 results have been found." a monotonous voice answered Race.

" Separate out stories or folklore that speaks of the fall of magic." Race spoke out.

" Processing" the robotic voice replied. After a few seconds the computer gave race the result. " 34,089 results have been found".

" Find the ones that is the oldest, and the most widespread story among them." Race attempted to further filter the results.

" Sir, one particular story and its different versions had been spread almost throughout a lot of old documents unearthed from ruins of different civilization. These ruins were of later found to be from the same era." the AI replied.

" Why didn't anyone find this odd ?"

" Sir, It was researched rather extensively for about 2 millenniums. But as there was no results humanity gave upon magic."

" Ok, now tell me the story", Race ordered the AI.

"Sir, It is something like a poem, do you want the summary or it to be recited as it is written."

" Recite it. " Race then sat down in a chair as the AI began to recite the poem.

" The mage king of the Northern Mountains,

His strength as great as the mountains

fell in love with a woman.

The Sword maiden of the Green Valley's

whose sword was the sharpest of them all.

There love so great even the grass sang about their love.

Under the Warmth of the Eternal Sun,

They tied there soul together.

Under the light of the Great Lunar Star,

They held each other becoming one."

" The Mages of the South was jealous of the sword maiden's strength.

They tore apart to find the secrets imparted by the pioneer of the magic sword.

The king who heard of the maiden's fate,

was blinded with his burning hate.

Madden by destiny's Hand,

Drew an Array with the Blood of His land."

"The Shattered king chanted a Spell,

One that shattered all spells.

All those in whom Mana flowed,

withered and died with the Shattering spell."

" Neither the Mountains nor the Plains,

Or the world never saw,

Another spell cast again. "

" Sir that is the End of the poem, Do you need the comprehensive summary of the novel"

" There is no need for it." Race said as he analyzed the poem's story. " So it is a curse, a curse that the King of the Iron Mountains made. In his rage, he created a spell that caused all the Mages as well as anyone with mana flowing through them to die. His Array must have been strong enough to cover the entire world. It should have disintegrated all the mana in those who were proficient in mana. The spell broke down all the mana in their body killing them due to the huge concentration of the new energy. All the master's died while, the rest were not able to use magic. And thus the world that was built upon magic crashed down leading to the fall of all the civilizations. Which made sure that knowledge on magic was forgotten forever."

" It might have been a world ending curse back then but for me it has turned into a blessing. The new pure energy released from the breaking down of mana is much more beneficial to the strengthening of my body. If I am able master this new form of energy I can possibly use it to control the ambient mana. After all mana is made of this particular energy."

Race then proceeded to put his new discovery to use. He concentrated as he slowly refined mana to this new pure energy. Which he used to strengthen his body further. He kept on refining Mana till the communicator on his wrist beeped. " Brother Race, come on we are waiting for you at the cafeteria." the cute voice of Sione came through.

" I will be there in five minutes", Race then ran to complete his morning hygiene routine. After which he rushed to the cafeteria.

"Took you long enough" Magnus teased as he saw Race enter the cafeteria. " Brother Race we have to train, so quickly finish your breakfast ", Sione was quite impatient. They quickly completed the lunch, after which they walked around the ship introducing Race to the various rooms on the ship. After about 30 mins they entered the training room.

" This time can you guys set the environment to a beach", Magnus requested. " Sure, I don't see why not", Race said, While Sione simply shrugged his shoulder as to say its all the same to him.

The entire arena slowly turned into a sandy beach along a blue ocean. The Training arena was so advanced, that one could feel like he was really at a beach. " Whose is going to fight me first", Sione asked as he looked at both Race and Magnus, only to be stunned as he saw Magnus on mat as he prepared to sleep on the sandy shores.

Just as Sione was about nag Magnus, Race intervened," Come on, let him rest, I will fight you first." Sione agreed and the countdown began.

"3...2...1...Fight"

"Here I come brother Race" Sione yelled as he charged at Race.

Sione threw a punch at Race, he had adjusted his strength to the a level that will not cause much trouble for Race. Little did he know Race had grown stronger. Race was able to catch Sione's fist with his new strength. He then proceeded to throw Sione into the ocean. Sione who was not expecting this to happen, suddenly found himself in the ocean.

Race was exhilarated by his new strength. " The pure energy strengthening is a marvelous. It is better than anything from the past". As Race was enjoying his new strength, a voice that sent shivers through Race was heard.

" It seems brother Race is stronger now, So I don't have to pull my punches", a drenched Sione was slowly coming out of the water.

Magnus heard a very loud gulp, which originated from Race.
