Brown Town

A few days later.

I had left my old cleaning job and stayed at home for 3 days. The bottle was already filled Earth mana to the brim since I could not push in more mana into it.

From what I felt from the bottle, it seemed like it had a one-way valve at its head from which mana could not escape out. the metal seemed to be something tougher than iron or steel.

I had asked Mike about it. He said it was called magic metal but he did not know how it was made. I needed more information.

I lay low for a couple of days then just after waking up when I was not looking good, I took the bottle and reached Blu Inn to collect the gold for the bottle.

I did this to look like I had weakness because of filling the bottle.

I went up to the counter and took out the bottle from my pocket.

John told me to give this to you. He took the filled Bottle and handed me an empty one with a gold coin.

I took the stuff and walked toward Brown Town.

This was my first time waking in. Of course the dead Bruce had visited the town a few times.

From what I remembered, the town was located in the North of Augustus Kingdom headed by The Augustus Royal family. Baron Kenneth ruled this city.

From my memories and conversations, I had heard this baron Kenneth seemed like a greedy person and charged high taxes for entering the town compared to other towns on the frontier.

This high tax had led to inns like Blu outside of city gates since customers could come in without paying the entry tax.

I saw the high walls surrounding the city to prevent beast invasions from what I assume. There was a moat filled with water surrounding the whole of Brown town. I lined up before the bridge to enter the town.

While I was lined up, I heard the sound of wheels. I looked back to see beast horses. The horses were a lot bigger than what I remembered from Earth.

The horses had 5000 hp and 2000 mana which seemed a lot higher than most humans. The carriage driver was a 1000 mana earth mage.

I saw the symbol on the flags and the carriage. It was a square wavy flag with colours of different elements in four squares like a window. This was the logo of Soft Chamber of Commerce.

The story of Soft Family is quite popular throughout the Augustus Kingdom. How an ordinary family turned into nobles.

The soft family started with Bill Soft who is known to be a genius alchemist who created cheap soul tablet. This soul tablet is like a basic old nokia phone from Earth. I didn't know much about them except this. It was cheaper compared to earlier forms of communication, still it was out of reach of ordinary people.

The town guards cleared the gate for the carriage and it went inside.

It was finally my turn to enter.

"Do you want to pay the one time fees or buy a pass for a longer duration? asked the guard.

"What's the price?" I asked.

"5 copper for one time entry and 2 silver for a 15 day pass with which you could enter any number of times over the next 15 days." he replied.

"Just the one time pass" I replied.

I punched my hand with a device which pasted a tattoo on my inner side of an arm. I felt mana transmission from that device. I didn't know what happened, so I enquired.

" This is a soul imprint which expires in 24 hours, you can come back to enter in 24 hours but after that you will have to pay again." he replied.

most of the guards had mana in the 1000s. I did not come across a mage as strong as old John of blue Inn yet.

I thanked him and went in.

Brown town was divided into 2 parts. The outer city and the inner city. It is said that when brown town was initially set up as a frontier town to venture into the great forest.

There was only the inner city with a moat surrounding it. Slowly it spread radially and another set of moat and walls was built to protect against beast invasions.

It has been centuries since that time and now a new shanty town has spread on the outskirts.

The current Brown town is 2 concentric circles. I live to the north of Brown town and have just entered from the Northern Gate. The Northern part of the city being close to the Great forest has shops suited for adventurers.

There are shops selling different stuff from pills to different magic tools.

I wandered my way through the city and looking for a bookstore. I wanted to learn about magic levels and look for new money making avenues.

Finally, I came across a street with less traffic. It seemed that I had walked all the way towards the southern of outer city since there were less adventurers here.

The southern part of town was the residential area where people could buy land and make their own houses if they paid enough spirit stones.

Even in this world, the property prices seemed too inflated.

I looked at the hoarding on the shop. I consisted of a symbol with book like thing and a diamond was embedded on the poster.

With my elemental sight, I could see a light spirit stone inside the diamond and the lines on the diamond were probably a kind of circuit to switch it on.

I tried recollecting which family this symbol belonged to. Then, I realised that it was the Herald family which had formed the Herald Chamber of Commerce. They had in a way monopolised the printing technology in the Augustus Kingdom.

Thinking that I would have to compete with these giants if I had to gain money, I walked in with a heavy heart.
