First Golem

The next day, morning.

Adam was peacefully sleeping in his bed, how could he sleep so well in such a hard bed is a mystery itself. Rays of sunlight came from the windows straight at his eyes, and his eyelids quivered a bit. His eyes slowly opened.

*Yawn*

Adam groggily woke up while stretching his arms, fixed his messy brown hair a little, and took out the Apprentice robes from his magic bag to get changed. He bought some other clothes with the money he had, so he wasn't wearing that black robe to sleep.

"It's time to do that.." He seemed a bit excited about "that". He hurriedly ran downstairs, he wanted to go to the forest as soon as possible. He met a middle-aged man on the first floor of the inn.

"Good morning, Uncle Xu!" Adam turned his head and waved to the inn owner, still not stopping.

"Good morning boy, why such a hurry?" Adam was already away so he didn't hear him.

"That boy, he didn't even eat his breakfast." Uncle Xu shook his head with a smile in his face. He had a food plate in his hands.

Adam ran in the direction of Shabu Forest, today was the day he would craft his first golem. He even dreamed of golems last night, so he was obviously excited about this. This wasn't something suitable to do in the inn or even in the city, so he went to the forest.

He finally reached the forest, he forgot about the distance and ran like an idiot so he was somewhat tired. After a quick rest, he went somewhere more isolated to prevent people from seeing.

"Time to do it." He got a Spirit Beast core from his bag, cores like this were the main component of golems. The core he had was from a low-rank Rank 0 beast and was bought for 10 silvers since he wasn't in the mood to waste time hunting for one. Now, how are golems made?

Adam took a deep breath, held the core with one hand, and in his other hand, a light-blue "pen" slowly appeared. He approached the pen to the core, and slowly began to carve intricate runes into it.

That is how golems are made, by carving runes into the core. Making a golem was in a way similar to programming, these runes were the programming language. Some golems needed you to make bodies for them first like automatons, but there was no need to do so with earth golems.

Adam was sweating while doing it, this was very delicate work, if he messed up the size of a rune a little the golem won't be made or will not work properly, so you can imagine what will happen if he carves the wrong rune.

Adam was relying on the boosted control he had over his own body as a mage, it probably didn't compare to the control martial artists had but it was definitely better than an average person's. Still, he was nervous during the whole process since this was his first time.

Half an hour later, he finally carved the final rune on the core. His face which was full of sweat had an expression of happiness. He finally did it!

"Let's test it..." This kind of golem required very little after carving the runes, you only needed earth to make it after all. Adam started injecting magic power on the core, the golem he was holding needed about twenty mana to activate.

After he injected enough magic power, he dropped the core that now had its runes glowing into the ground. The core brightened even more and floated a little, and the earth around it slowly began to levitate, before attaching to the core. Soon, a humanoid figure without any facial features made of earth appeared before him. He was overjoyed.

"It work-" Before he even finished, the golem suddenly started trembling and dissolving like it could not maintain its form. In just a few seconds, all that was left was the core which was now not glowing anymore. Adam was a little dumbfounded.

"I think I messed up, thank God I don't need to start all over again." If the error wasn't too severe, the core will not be destroyed so adjustments could be made. Or else he would have to spend another half an hour with the other cores he bought. Adam also noticed that buying cores might be a good way to get points, but it could attract unwanted attention.

"Now, now, which rune did I carve wrong, I think it was the thirtieth rune..." He grabbed the core and began to change it a little. After three minutes, he tried it again. As soon he threw it on the ground, the same that thing that happened earlier took place, but this time, the golem didn't break.

"Ahhh, Finally..." Adam sighed with a slight smile as he stared at the faceless humanoid figure made of earth in front of him. Golems didn't need to be humanoid, but the knowledge he got from the system only included how to make humanoid forms, he will have to figure out how to change it by himself.

"Let's test this big boy. Follow." Adam began to walk to somewhere in the forest, and the earth golem wordlessly followed him. Golems of such a low rank have limited knowledge and can only be programmed to understand simple commands, like Follow, Attack or Protect. If he wanted a more intelligent golem and stronger golem, he would need a better core, but his technique is not suitable for better cores yet.

For golems that did not have their own intelligence like this one, mages often employ special methods to control them. The most popular one was creating a language for yourself and program the golems to only respond to it. Adam programmed the golems to only obey commands in English since no one in this world knows it.

Yes, the people here aren't speaking English, the reason Adam was able to communicate with them was obviously the system doing.

"Attack." Adam pointed to a tree trunk. The earth golem increased his speed a little and punched the trunk with full force. The tree slightly shook and a small hole was left on the trunk.

"Stop." The golem immediately stopped. It wouldn't stop until it destroyed the tree otherwise.

'Hmm, the power is less than Fireball, it's nearly the same as a full-powered Mana Bullet if I don't rotate it.' Adam considered this strength more than enough. He approached the golem and put his hand into it's back.

"Dismount." The earth around the golem fell down, and the humanoid figure soon turned into a bunch of dirt with a red core in the middle. Adam picked up the core and put it into the magic bag.

Golems like earth golems weren't as strong as metal golems, but they had advantages like this one. They were made of dirt, after all, so they could be easily dismounted and carried around. To use them again, all you needed to do was throw them on the ground and they would mount again and be ready for battle. Metal Golems and automatons need to follow their masters around as they are made of solid materials that aren't easily found.

Adam went back to the inn, after eating to satiate his hungry belly because he didn't eat for nearly the whole day, he went to sleep.
