Chapter 26: Oblivion

Danté cleared his throat and I was snapped back into reality.

Danté was holding on to me, and my feet dangled in the air.

"Ah!" I screamed and shoved him away in embarrassment. He let go of me and I nearly landed with my butt on the floor.

Danté raised an eyebrow, amused.

Why do I keep making a fool out of myself in front of this man?

"I-I-I was just overexcited and got caught up in the moment..." I looked away from his smug, grinning face. "Don't... overthink it."

"Sure," he responded, but it didn't look as if he believed my words.

Danté pointed to the target's head. "Try to shoot in the head this time."

I readjusted my sweater and picked up my gun. "Okay."

I focused on the target and tried to recall Danté's words: The gun an extension of you. This gun is you. Don't be afraid of it. Treat her gently. Treat her with respect. Don't hold her back.
