Just a coincidence

"I refuse to believe all this." Shirley stated clearly traumatized by the sudden revelation. She moved away from where we were and went to sit on a chair at one corner.

It was very obvious that Mr Steve was highly disappointed in his colleagues for making such a big mistake.

"We are so sorry Ed, we didn't-" Simon started to plead but Mr Steve cut him off, "You didn't what huh?" Mr Steve glared at the both of them.

They both looked away as they couldn't afford to look him in the eyes.

"TELL ME!" Mr Steve yelled at the both of them, "How and why in the first place did you allow yourselves to be seen by a person?" He asked as he paced about very angrily.

They were all silent as Mr Steve scolded them, I knew that the situation at hand was serious but I have also got bigger issues than what they are currently dealing with so I really wish they can just drop the whole matter and focus on me instead.

"Edward I know you are angry but I think we shouldn't be talking about all this in front of the kid, We can all talk about this later, But for now let's decide on what we do with her." Michael carefully gave his opinion to avoid another angry blast from their boss.

Mr Steve shot a look at my direction, His facial expression neutral again. He stared at me for a while before walking up towards me.

I swallowed hard, Blinking as I did at the realization that he may really kill me in here. They might want to kill me just because I know too much about them now.

I wasn't sure but they just admitted they were criminals, Who knows the countless times they have killed someone. Judging from what Shirley said earlier I believe they have been killing people who gets in their way numerous times.

I might not even get to see outside of here again, My family too. My mom would go to jail and my family would be broken, Fear immediately overtook me at that realization.

When Mr Steve arrived in front of me he stared hard and coldly. "What were you doing at the mansion that night?" He asked me as he folded his arms across his chest.

"My mom took me to that mansion, She works there." I replied him.

"So she works overnight too?" He asked again, "No she doesn't, We just happened to stay late because of the auction that was going to take place." I told him.

He paused and stared at me for a while before he continued his interrogation. The others didn't say anything but paid full attention to the both of us.

"How did you come across them Aki?" He questioned as he stepped forward a little closer and squatted right beside where I sat.

My inner mind kept on telling me to be very careful while answering his questions because who knows what he might do to me.

"I saw them sneaking in and trying to enter a room so I became suspicious of them and decided to keep a watch on them." I replied him.

"So you weren't afraid of what they were going to do to you if you get caught by them?" He asked with an amused tone.

"I did get caught by them though, but they didn't do anything." I shrugged.

And soon that came out of my mouth, I regretted it immediately.

He nodded and chuckled at my bold reply and that somehow unnerved me.

"How do you know it was them? Did you see their faces?" He asked me. "I didn't see their faces, It was their voices I heard." I told him.

"Unbelievable." Shirley said from where she sat, The others looked dumbfounded too.

"And that made you so sure it was them?" He asked with surprise.

"Yes." I told him.

He stood up and looked at his partners for a while then back at me.

"So was that the reason why you wanted to expose us? Just because you heard a voice similar to that of my partner. What if you had heard wrong and it wasn't actually us behind the theft, What if?" He interrogated further.

"Of course not! I would never try to break a promise I made, I also thought I might have heard wrong that's why I didn't do or say anything, Not until my mom got accused and arrested for the theft you guys just admitted you committed!" I said angrily at him.

"So because your mom got arrested that's why you had to start creating a scene up there huh?" Shirley spoke from behind Mr Steve, I didn't even notice her get up.

I felt an undescribable anger at the moment due to her words, How can she be so mean!

"YES! That's why, I already told the cops too but they didn't believe me at all, The cops said they didn't see anything suspicious when they checked the footage except for my Mom which I know isn't possible because I saw-" I did not get the chance to finish what I was saying because Mr Steve cut me off.

"The cops weren't able to see anything suspicious about us because the CCTV footage was altered by us." He told me.

I was confused, I didn't understand what he was trying to say.

"What do you mean?" I asked him, "What I meant was that the footage where my guys were breaking into the room was deleted....By us." He told me.

"How did you do that?" I asked confused as hell. He looked back at his members and chuckled softly. "Long story." He simply said.

"Edward you heard what she just told you, She said she told the cops already! Shouldn't we be worried about that now?" The fat guy behind him spoke up.

"As long as they've got no evidence then there's nothing we should be worried about Biggie." Mr Steve told him.

They all heaved a sigh of relief except for Jason, he knew he was still in big trouble with their boss.

"So what now Boss, Do we just let her go? That would be risky because she'll definitely go back to the cops again." Michael told Mr Steve.

"He's right Eddy, Who knows if they actually sent her here on purpose to confirm if what she told them was true." Biggie added.

"They have a point Eddy, we didn't even examined her to check if she has a tracker on her!" Shirley spoke up.

"I did check, She was empty." Simon said with a sigh, He obviously was getting bored with the whole drama.

"I came on my own! I said the cops didn't believe me when I told them about you guys." I told them frustratingly.

"Enough all of you!" Mr Steve said in a commanding tone. "I told you we are clear on this." He said gesturing his hands while facing his partners.

"But my mom isn't!" I told him with a determined tone. He faced me again and folded his hands across his chest again.

"I am sorry about your mom Aki, it was just a coincidence." He said with a genuine sigh.

"Well you have to fix it because it was all your fault in the first place!" I told them with my heart pounding.

"Or what?" Shirley said and came forward to me staring at me intimidatingly.

"Shirley!!" Mr Steve cautioned her with a hard facial expression.

"Please not now boss, It wasn't our fault her mom unfortunately got seen on the footage at the wrong time, So why should we help her!" She told him angrily.

If it were possible to do that, I would very much like to get up and smack her hard in the face for what she just said now. But I can't do that because she's definitely going to retaliate and she's very older and taller than me.

I just had to shiver in anger and look at her with my best anger expression. I hated how she's got no sympathy at all.

"I just want my mom out of jail please." I begged Mr Steve. "Eddy you know we can't help her." Shirley told him but Mr Steve didn't even listen to her as he was in a deep thought.

She signalled Biggie to talk to him but the fat guy shook his head and raised his hands in a surrender gesture.

Mr Steve thought for a while before coming to a decision.

"You need to promise me this time again Aki, You won't tell a soul about us if we help get your mom out of jail." He told me and with the way he spoke I could see how dead serious he was.

"Yes Mr Steve, I promise not to tell a soul." I told him, "You don't sound genuine." He said back and I said it again more serious than ever. "I promise not to tell a soul."

"Good." He said.

"So we are helping her, in exchange for that?" Simon asked not really on board with it.

"Yes we are." Mr Steve said in an authoritative tone. And with that been said all except Shirley nodded at that.

She looks disturbed and insecure about what Mr Steve just said.

"And how the hell are we going to do that?" She asked irritatingly, seems like she's got no choice but to follow the team.

"By returning the jewelry we took." He said and that made their eyes widened.
