1 If a fly threatens you, don't doubt it, step on it

The rustle of the leaves is the only thing a common person could hear through the forest. Only the most experienced hunter might hear a clue that there is in fact a person running through the forest. And it would be needed a druid or a mana gifted warrior to barely feel the vibrations of the hundreds of relentless pursuers behind it.

The pursuers had feets fairer than most holy maidens, they trampled through trees without leaving an ounce of sound behind or a single mark. Not even a single thread of their blonde hair moved away from behind their long pointed ear.

The hundred or so elves hunted through the forest sternly while communicating through their rabbit red-eyes. Silently, they stopped atop the trees. Looking around vigilantly while spreading their race-inherited mana sense.

Nothing that had mana could scape their sense, the mana inside the trees, insects, and even grass. but there was a single point that seemed to have nothing of mana.

The elf who caught the oddity flashed his teammates a sadistic grin and pointed his finger down to the caught pray, a thick black lightning exploded forth from the tip of his fair finger. The elf's followers immediately followed and conjured spells around the aimed spot. Should the human miraculously dodge the main attack, he wouldn't be able to avoid the other spells.

Blinding flashes of light repeatedly appeared before being replaced by black smoke. The grinning elf looked down at the black lump of human remains and sneered.

"A race should understand when they're conquered and cut losses short by surrendering. This planet's human civilization is worst than cockroaches."

"Ha! at least the orcs can blame their inherited low intelligence for being this stubborn, but for an intelligent race to do the same...It's plainly stupid." Another elf, feeling the tension of the hunt going away, added from the side.

Another wanted in, but a sudden appearance in their midst made the hundreds of elves stiff.

Its face was like that of elves, but the color of its eyes was green instead of red. It was the druid responsible for their platoon.

"Don't be so free of worry from a single targeted destroyed. Remember; though these humans were never touched by mana until we arrived, they still managed to multiply and evolve in a rate that could shame a few of the greater civilizations that were wealthy of mana since the beginning of times."

The hundred or so nodded seriously. But the druid knew well of their inner disregarding thoughts. He couldn't blame them though. After all, finding this planet named earth, was like stumbling upon a treasure chest guarded by cute little rabbits. Not only you found a prize you also get to eat meat while counting the goods.

The druid was about to signal them to keep on hunting the leftover humans when he froze. Not only him, but every other elven race member had despair on their eyes as they looked up.

They invaded this planet using their mother planet, and much like the human' sparked cars, it was right outside the earth's atmosphere. But the great Yggdrasil carrying mass twice the size of the earth was nowhere to be seen. Nothing of its golden and green light could be seen anymore, only countless mushroom-shaped clouds all around it.

The druid couldn't speak, neither did the other elves, they didn't know what it was, but they could feel through their connection to their mother planet..... that thing was their doom.

"Not only your pretty city will be in rui-cough! Bu-BUT EARTH TOO!"

The forced shout broke the silence.

The elves looked down at the laughing black lump of charred meat. thought they knew these humans were magic resistant, this was just absurd.

But the charred man laughed showing a bloody smile "Not only your planet but earth too! Soon, you all will be wiped out too. Haha, god this is satisfying!"

The elven race warriors and mages were in too much despair to listen. But they understood, there was nothing they could do besides waiting for death.

Stefan, the charred man, watched the culmination of humanity's spite and maliciousness extinguish the pointy-eared blondie's home with undeniable pride.

But there was still undeniable grief on his heart...Grief that made him think of his life until now.

Stefan lived a boring life. Studying, then working, then marriage. It was all just a chore. But then they came... Like angels they descended and bestowed the knowledge of mana as if giving bread crumbs to peasants. they figured it was in their best interest to feed and teach humanity enough to be their vassal race.

The war started not much after. Stefan remembered the blood pumping through his veins then, fighting, scheming, the loss and gains of power... he was finally alive... But the enemy... the enemy was too strong and war became a one-sided genocide.

"If only... I wanted to live like that a little longer."

A mocking laugh echoed on his head.

[That wish isn't hard to comply, only... The price is quite steep.]

"...Whatever it is.... I agree."

....

..

.

Stefan opened his eyes, an unfamiliar ceiling stood above him.
