3 Legacy System

[Shiba has been registered as the disciple's name. Disciple Shiba can start using the Legacy System.]

Shiba was surprised when he heard that notification. He wasn't used to having a system that could speak from inside his head.

"Now, how can I use it?"

Shiba muttered to himself, but he got a reply anyway.

[The Legacy System can be operated just with thoughts, but it also answers to mutters. It won't react to the voice in other situations.]

Master Liye feared that a disciple could find managing it through thoughts too difficult, so he added the option to recognize the voice as long as it was low. He didn't want his disciples to be shouting commands to the system. It would have been too shameful.

That was the first time Master Liye gave a system to a disciple, but since he loved to have disciples and he couldn't be everywhere, he believed that could be a good method to help them even if he weren't present.

"How can I train?"

Shiba didn't know the reasons to only be able to mutter instead of speaking normally to interact with the system, but he felt that it would be too confusing to use thoughts to control it.

After knowing how to use the system, he wanted to start training as soon as possible.

Master Liye saved him, but he was still too weak. If his previous owners were to find him, he believed that he would end up dead.

[Disciple Shiba only needs to read the training method and do as the method says. Generating the first strand of Fake Origin Qi is quite easy.]

The text appeared in Shiba's mind. He felt the sensation quite strange, but then he noticed a bigger problem.

"I can't read it at all."

He could see the letters of the text, but he didn't have the slightest idea of what they meant.

[The system displayed the text using the most used letters of this planet. There are another fifty variations existing. Please state the desired one.]

The language on that planet was mostly unified, but there were some variants despite being small. Something similar happened to letters, but there were some old sets that were so old that very few people could understand while others just have slight modifications.

"I don't know how to read at all..."

Shiba felt shame for that, but that wasn't that strange since he lived his life as a slave before meeting Master Liye.

The system remained in silence for a while.

[Changing priorities to teach how to read.]

Master Liye added that function mainly to learn how to read different languages, but he still had the consideration to add a mode for someone who didn't know how to read at all, although it was under the consideration of the disciple having all his knowledge wiped out due to some attack to the soul.

Fortunately, Shiba only needed two hours to learn how to read. The system was very good teaching it, and the letters were the most sued by commoners, so they weren't that difficult.

Shiba's body was in a perfect state after being healed by Master Liye, but he wasn't immune to hunger. Thus, although he wouldn't suffer hunger for a while due to the state of his body, he would still feel it if he were to wait too long.

After learning how to read, Shiba read the training method and developed the first strand of Fake Origin Qi successfully. It was as easy to do as the system said.

[Congratulations for having reached level 1.]

Shiba almost cried when he heard that notification. No one had congratulated him before without sarcasm.

Although that was just a system feature and it didn't have any special meaning, it was still significant for Shiba.

"I feel that strand of energy, but everything else feels the same."

He expected to feel some incredible power after becoming a practitioner, but the only change was that small strand of energy that didn't seem to bring huge changes to him.

[Level 1 just allows starting using the Fake Origin Qi. The limitations of the body are the same as those of someone who hadn't started practicing a training method. The limits will be increased after reaching level 2, but the power won't increase directly unless there is some external source influencing it.]

Increasing the level increased the limits, but it wasn't that the power would increase just for leveling up.

"External source?"

Shiba didn't understand what an external source could be. He had only read the basics to create that strand of energy, he didn't know anything else about practicing.

[The energy Master Liye used to restore your body is considered a kind of external source. Your body is already at the limits of your current level thanks to that energy. There is a lot of remaining energy unable to affect you due to limitations that will be released once you level up. Please, note that this system can only tell you if something is maxed, but there isn't a function to quantify your stats.]

The energy used by Master Liye was just insignificant for him, but it was more than enough to make a mere mortal explode by surpassing its limits. Thus, Master Liye made that energy to be sealed until Shiba could accept it safely.

As for not being able to quantify stats, Master Liye didn't add that function on purpose. He didn't want that his disciples became too obsessed to check numbers.

"So, I will feel some changes after advancing. How can I advance to level 2?"

Shiba loved the sensation of strength on his body after Master Liye healed him, so he was eager to know how he would feel after increasing his level.

[To advance to level 2, the disciple must master a skill that had both physical and magical traits, called Combined Skill, or instead master one physical and one magical. What is the choice of the user?]

The Legacy System existed to help Shiba to train, so it had stored skills that he could learn.

"Master only one should be better than having to master two. I want the Combined Skill."

Shiba wanted to increase his power quickly to protect his life in addition to how he liked the feeling of becoming strong, so he decided to choose the one that he felt would be the fastest.

Two skills might be better in the long-term, but Shiba wasn't sure to be alive in the long-term to think about it.

[Among the list of Combined Skills stored that are easy to master, the system's recommendation is: Earth Step.]

[Earth Step: Stepping to the ground makes it move some centimeters. It doesn't work well with a floor full of vegetation and artificial ground. It can be used to increase the speed a bit when walking or running and can be trained simultaneously. Not too good for combat but easy to master.]

The system gave its suggestion, followed by the description of the skill.

The skill wasn't really useful, but that was the case for all the skills the Legacy System could offer to Shiba at that moment.

After all, those skills were just to satisfy the requirement to advance to level 2 not to be useful in battle. It was difficult to master a useful skill while being only level 1. Although some geniuses might do it, it took more time than an easier skill, and Shiba's talent wasn't that good anyway.

For someone like Master Liye, the skills that a mortal could learn weren't worthy of anything in the long term, so he made the Legacy System only give the easiest ones to master just for the sake of advancing to the next level.

"This is good. I will be able to move a bit faster here."

Shiba's knowledge about skills was non-existent, so he didn't know if there were better skills or not. Thus, the one offered by the Legacy System already seemed good enough.

There wasn't any vegetation in the area he was in, and it wasn't easy to walk a lot due to the harsh weather that was always in the area, so Earth Step looked quite handy for him at the moment.

Of course, the Legacy System took into consideration the surroundings. Shiba would need to leave Master Liye's reincarnation place to find a place where he could obtain food as soon as he could.

He needed two hours to reach that place despite being injured, so he wasn't that far from where the massacre happened, but if he wanted to go through places that didn't belong to his owners, it wouldn't be so short.

[Earth Step learned successfully. The progression until mastery can't be measured, but there will be a notification upon mastery.]

The Legacy System could just make Shiba learn a skill automatically as long as it was stored inside the system. Of course, always restricted to what Shiba could learn.

"Incredible! I know to use it just by accepting it. This is miraculous."

It wasn't difficult for powerful experts to impart such a simple skill to someone like the system did, but there was no way Shiba knew about it.

"It seems that I should already leave. If I wait too much, I may start to feel hunger, and although I am used to suffering hunger, it is better if I don't test my limits."

As someone who lives as a slave, hunger wasn't something strange, but he still ate the bare minimum before being unable to move due to lack of food. However, at that moment, there wasn't anything like that for him unless he discovered a place with food first.
