9 Chapter 9 Magic Academy [Part 2]

This wasn't my first time in the city, the city of Avalon was truly a beautiful city decorated with flowers and bustling with people, merchants, sellers, foreigners, and many more about their daily business.

I was lucky to be born into this family, my dad was the head of the military and my mother was a successful merchant, she was a skilled dressmaker and owned a large dress shop in the city where noble families and even the princesses of the royal family buy from her most of the time.

I had visited her stores lots of times but this time we were heading to the magic academy.

The walls of the academy were now in sight as I looked through the window, the academy was at the edge of the city and the back walls were merged with the main city wall in case of an emergency, so magic knights could be quickly deployed outside the city to protect the people.

Our carriage stopped outside the gate while the guards quickly opened the gate as they already knew who was inside.

After some minutes the carriage stopped, and my dad smiled and signaled that we had arrived, I opened the carriage door and stepped down from the carriage and so did my dad.

The magic academy was truly a beautiful place to be in but this was just the outside, my dad led the way as we walked through a hallway towards our destination which I don't know.

Some of the current students moved passed us and each time their eyes were glued on both of us, my dad was really handsome so the girls couldn't help but stare, and I was the splitting image of my father only that I was a ten years old kid.

We finally reached our destination, my dad knocked on the door and a voice told us to come in.

We stepped into a small office with a table and three chairs in the entire room, a bearded man sat at the other end and told us to sit.

"So this is your son Xavier" the man spoke with a smile on his face.

"Yes, he's here for the test" my dad spoke with a smile, from his voice, I could tell he wasn't that happy.

"Of course, right away," the man said as he bent down and brought a white medium-sized crystal and placed it on his desk.

"Magical prowess is divided into 10 stages, with the 10 stage being the strongest and the 1 stage being the weakest, mages of lower stages often breakthrough to the stage above them with rigorous training, your dad here was a stage six mage, but is now at stage seven, so with that place your hands on the crystal" the man explained.

"What is the minimum stage required to be accepted into the magic academy?" I asked the man.

"Stage four" the man simply said.

"What if I don't make it to stage four, can I join the magic academy?" I asked.

"Why do you ask, you speak as if you wouldn't make the cut, your dad is an excellent warrior so I'm sure you would be too, but if your magic prowess is lower than stage four then you'll have to improve your swordsmanship and then join the academy when you are 18 after passing a written and physical test" the man spoke.

"Okay," I muttered and placed my hands on the crystal. Since I heard what my parents said, I knew I wouldn't make it to the magic academy so I'll just have to stick to sword training, and when I receive my system at the age of 18, then I'll join the academy.

The crystal shone dimly as I placed my hands on it and the man couldn't help but shake his head.

"Hmmm...you are at stage three, but with enough practice, you can make it to stage four, I can accept you if you wish to join since your father is an excellent warrior, I'm sure you'll grow up to be one too," the man said.

"Na I'll pass" I spoke without a hint of concern.

"Huh!!" My dad exclaimed.

"What!!" The man was clearly angry.

"Xavier, why would you waste an opportunity like that, he's giving you a chance to join the academy, isn't that what you wanted?" My dad asked.

"Yeah that's what I want, but I also want to join because I'm skilled, not because my dad is a powerful warrior, I'll be back when I'm 18 and then I'll prove to you that I deserve to be here," I said boldly.

"Well, then that concludes this meeting, Mr. Xavier, we'll meet again and I hope you keep your promise because becoming a magic knight with just swordsmanship isn't as easy as you think," the man said before closing his eyes.

I stood up as soon as the man was done and I headed out, I think my dad was surprised by my behavior but I don't think he's mad at me, instead, he was glad I didn't let the lack of magic power stop me from training.

I admit what I did was somewhat childish, but it's not my fault I'm an 18 year old trapped in the body of a ten years old boy so you can't blame me, if I was still on my earth I would have been an adult living alone maybe with my girlfriend or a wife if I got married, but here it's different.

Magic is an essential part of this world but still, no one says I can't be powerful without magic, and I still haven't gotten my system, I just hope I get something good, people don't often talk much about their system and I still don't know the type my mum or dad has or anyone above 18, but I do know they are battle type system, and I hope I get one of those.

We finally arrived at home and my mum was the first to welcome us, she almost cried when we told her I didn't get accepted but then my dad explained to her that I'm okay so that's that, since I can't use magic much, I'll dedicate my time to swordsmanship.
