Visit in the rain

"Subham I'm in a really good mood so please don't do or say anything to spoil it." Haity turned towards Subham, her annoying neighbour next door, standing on the front iron doors.

Subham, a tall muscular young man with golden brown hair and black eyes, was a local cop in the city and lived in house opposite to Haity's, across the street. Despite having the job that's most often called dignified, Haity was quite sure that he must be one of the corrupt ones. He was in his late twenties and a class A creep, often flirting and playing with Haity which went out of control a few times after which Haity marked an invisible line between the two of them. Occasionally Subham's parents dropped by his house, they were nice from what appeared outside but Subham was plain in contrast.

"How are you Haity?" Subham asked from the front iron door as Maira shook her head and entered the room.

"I'm fine Subham thanks." Haity faked a smile at him, dismissing any sort of conversation and turned back to enter behind Maira.

"Hey I was thinking—" Haity stopped again when Subham started to speak but didn't face him now.

"Maybe you'd want to forgive and have dinner with me tonight. You can bring Maira."

Without another glance or a word, Haity stepped in and closed the door behind her, hoping he got the message.

"What was that about?" Asked Maira, stretching on the sofa.

"Nothing to think about now. Let's call the girls." Haity said and jumped onto the sofa beside Maira with the phone in hand.

"I'm going to sleep now. I can't watch this anymore." Maira said as the latest episode of love island was midway on television.

"Okay go then. We have to leave tomorrow afternoon anyway. So I won't be up late."

"Good night then."

"Night."

As soon as Maira left, Haity's phone pinged with a message. She ignored it first but then curiosity got better of her and she check it.

It was Roy.

-What you doing?

-television, she messaged back and the mobile again buzzed with a message.

- I had something to tell. We can't see each other as that anymore I'm with someone else now.

Even though this came as a surprise for Haity but she was not the least bit disappointed. This was the most formal break up she has ever experienced ir even heard of.

- sure Roy

She replied immediately.

Haity waited for a few seconds before throwing it away on the side table.

"Good move Roy. I feel better already." Haity talked to herself, she suddenly heard the rain drops falling in the yard and rushed outside.

She stepped out into the yard and let the drop of soothing water hit her bare shoulders while feeling the coldness of the air around. This was freeing and emotional at the same time, she was dumped and it felt good.

Haity was just about to return inside when she felt the front iron door open and turned to see who it was.

"Sahil?"

"Hi Haity."

Haity felt her body on fire under his gaze as she struggled to hide her embarrassment.

"What are you doing here Sahil?" Haity said, folding her hands across her breasts.

"No it's nothing like that. I came here to give this to Maira. My mother said it was important, I went to her house and the neighbours said she must be here. So I came here. Is she here?"

"How important can something be that your mother have to send you here, at this time?"

"I also wanted to apologise for my—"

"Let it go Sahil. I didn't wanted to meet you but here you are."

"I'm sorry Haity, I'll leave."

"Sure give me that." Haity approched Sahil and took the plastic covered file from Sahil's hand.

"You are all wet." Said Sahil.

"I know. Now you are too."

Yes, I am, by the way that creep in that house is watching you and now he's watching us. Good night." Saying this he turned and left, closing the iron gate behind him.

Haity lifted her head and saw Subham in his balcony staring at her with confusion.

"You want something Subham?"

Haity said as a sarcasm.

Subham shook his head and left his balcony, his face radiating angst and jealousy.

"I don't know what his deal is?" Saying this, she too went inside the house and closed the wooden hall doors behind her.

"Rise and shine." Maira's cheerful voice dragged Haity out of her dreamland. She opened her eyes to the sandwich and juice in front while Maira pushed open the window.

"Are we not going swimming?" Haity asked, mentally praying to hear 'no'.

"Are you kidding me Haity? We are going to Goa today, there's a lot to do. I can't wait to wear my new dress. By the way, Gals will be here by 3 pm sharp." Maira left the room squealing like a maniac.

"I hope there is no drama today." Haity had just finished the sentence when Maira entered back in.

"What did you say? What drama? Did something happened yesterday?"

"Several things." Haity said munching her vegetables sandwich.

"Why didn't you tell me, what happened?" Maira said sitting back on the bed.

"Roy messaged when you went to sleep, he ended it,"

"Over a message? That's insane."

"I thought so too but it's fine, it feels better actually."

"Really?"

"Yes Maira. And Sahil came to give some file, he said it was urgent but I didn't believe him."

"What file?" Maira looked around.

"Yes it's on the table in the drawing hall. It was for you of course, from Ms. Kavita."

"Okay will check it later and that's it?"

"Almost yeah." Haity shruged, trying to dismiss of the last part about Subham ogling her, she knew how much it would anger her friend.

"What? No tell me. Tell me tell me." Maira repeated like a child.

"Okay, when I was out in the rain, Sahil noticed Subham staring at me and told me about it. It was just wierd, I don't know what to think."

"That bloody— I won't leave him this time Haity. I'm going to go out there and give him a piece of my mind before going to Goa."

"No Maira, leave it." Before Haity could stop her, Maira stood up and stormed out of the room.

"Maira stop." Haity blocked the path Maira was storming on and stood like a wall, hands on hips.

"What?"

"Are you serious? You are going to spoil your mood and time over that silly unimportant incident."

"He will go out of hand and you won't realise. You won't see it coming Haity." Maira breathed heavily, calming down.
