Chapter 3 Different world

Cathy's POV...

From that encounter, though the demon left me, my despair didn't. The miseries of my life went even wilder. After that day, I started losing things one by one. The first thing I lost was my innocence. Yes, my uncle didn't stop completely. He kept bringing men to my room. Although none of them was able to take my virginity, all of them gave me a traumatic experience for sure.

Some would be naked, some would show me disgusting gestures and some would even try to undress me. The next I lost was my uncle. Yes, Mr. Richard. When the police learned about the crime he was practicing using me, he left home and intended to leave the country through a ship. But fortunately, the ship that he was traveling through met an accident. Was I sad at the time when he was dying slowly in front of me? I didn't know but I was there witnessing his death.

Even though he was found alive, most of his internal organs were destroyed by then and the water was accumulated in his lungs already. Yet, he survived twenty-four hours. He was strong indeed.

However, in this loss, the most pleasing part was I was set free. I got my freedom from the damn dark rooms and those vicious men.

Regardless of it, I was still clueless about what happened to me that day in that room. I didn't know why that happened to me. But it surely did and the same thing again happened on my nineteenth birthday. That's when what I lost was quite ridiculous. Of course, it's my home, my shelter, my clothes and every single thing that I thought I had. Pathetic! For the debts of my uncle, I had to work all day long. It was a horrible experience since I would lose my part time jobs every week.

Walking home, the blaring sounds of the city traffic made me wish that I had just hit the fucking squirrel. I was tired, my head was throbbing and now I had to walk almost three miles to get home. Finally, I reached my apartment building and I sighed in relief.

Climbing the stairs, I tried to replay everything that I did yesterday in my mind. But, it was just all too fuzzy.

Oh, whatever. I just want to sleep, I thought as I fished my keys out of my purse.

I hauled myself to my room and flopped down onto the bed. Lying there, I stared blankly at the ceiling. I would have to find a job soon or else I wouldn t be able to afford a packet of ramen. Groaning, I rolled over and buried my head in the pillows. Being completely alone in the world had become pretty natural for me. I guess I still had my mother. That is, if she was even alive. No one had ever told me anything about her.

I grinned sarcastically as I thought about my uncle s last words.

"You... you are cursed, Cathy," Mr. Richard muttered as he looked at me and tried to breathe under the oxygen mask. "You have stopped aging as you have now reached adulthood. You are an immortal."

What a load of crap. That crazy old fucker…

Jerking my blankets over my head, I rolled to my side. I didn t want to think about this anymore because I couldn t completely dismiss what he said. After all, he was a blood relation of mine. Why would he come up with such a ridiculous story?

"Wow…You still think he was really a part of your family?"

My body froze. Someone was in here? I didn t even hear anything! Ripping the blankets off, I jumped out of bed and stood face to face with a strange man. He was standing in the middle of my room and I could his features perfectly from the moonlight that poured in from my window. But, the first thing I noticed was that he wasn t alone. A woman stood directly beside of him, and both of them had their eyes fixed on me. Although having strangers in my room was frightening, I couldn t help but be curious when I saw how they were dressed.

The woman was very young and she wore a black robe on top of a long silver gown. Her long black hair fell to her waist and her long nails were painted red. But, the most attractive feature was her golden eyes and then I moved my gaze to the man. He was dressed somewhat formally in all black attire except for the silver scarf around his neck. His dark hair was swept back and beneath his thick-bushy eyebrows were bright yellow eyes.

Were they cosplayers? Or was there some sort of medieval festival nearby? Or maybe they were thieves who dressed up to hide their identity before committing crimes? Like the Joker…

Outlandish ideas just kept reeling in my head and then, finally realizing my situation, I grabbed my pillow for defense and chucked it at the man.

"Who the hell are you people?! And how did you even get into my apartment? Leave right now or I m calling the authorities!" I screamed.

The man moved his head to the left ever so slightly and he dodged my "attack." Narrowing his gaze down at me, he scoffed, "Girl, you are rude!"

"Answer my fucking question. Who the hell are you?"

I was frightened, but I was also angry. I wasn t going to just let them come into my home and do whatever they wanted, not without a fight anyway. The woman stepped forward and I took a cautious step back.

"My name is Tiffy, a werewolf from the Blood Moon Pack and the secretary of Queen Lizzie. This is Jacob, a secret agent of our Queen. Please don t be frightened, we won t bite."

I stood there in shock. This woman just nonchalantly announced to me that she was a werewolf-like she was informing me about the damn weather. Just what the hell was this? Some sort of sick TV prank? As if reading my mind, the man gave me a sinister smile.

"Queen Lizzie resides in Jinx Castle and she is our Luna from the Blood Moon Pack and… your biological mother."

My eyebrows rose in surprise. The man was literally saying that a Queen was my mother. Wow… so they were insane! I raised my hands in surrender and took another couple of steps back to put more distance between us.

"Listen, I don t want any trouble and I don t know what the heck you re talking about. Just leave and I won t call the police."

The woman, named Tiffy, sighed.

"What he said is true. We belong and reside in another world which is hidden from the humans."

Bullshit! How could there be another world besides this world? A thought occurred to me and I broke out into a cold sweat.

"A-am I dead?" I asked while trying to swallow my hysteria.

The woman chuckled softly and said, "You will never be dead since you are an "Undead Lycan"."

I stared at her, flabbergasted. "Okay, what's that?"

"Normal werewolves can't shift into their wolf form at will but are forced to shift with the full moon. This is because we are the children of the moon. However, you can shift to human or wolf form at any time. Since you can control when you shift, you are not a child of the moon, but an "Undead Lycan"." she explained.

I was still confused. The man cleared his throat and stepped forward.

"It means that you are undead, an immortal without weaknesses," he said

Wait, what? I sunk down to sit on my bed. This was insane… undead? Me? Was my uncle speaking the truth the whole time? Tiffy came up to me and put her hand on my shoulder.

"Cathy, your father was a human. He had met our Luna on one of her visits here and they fell in love. However, your mother left you here in the care of your father. As Queen, she had to go back and she couldn t take you with her because you were born as a human. You see, humans are forbidden to enter Jinx."

My head started to throb again. I still wasn t sure if I believed her or not; but, I suddenly felt emotionally and physically drained.

"Then why are you here?" I asked.

Jacob looked at me with amusement and I had the urge to wipe that stupid look off of his face.

"Two years ago, on your eighteenth birthday, you started developing your abilities but you still weren t a full-blooded Lycan. Only on the day of the Blood Moon could transformation be complete, and guess what yesterday was?" He paused and gave me a sincere look. "If you stay in the human world, it will only bring you misery. It would be more beneficial for you to come with us."

"How do I know that you are telling me the truth?"

Sighing, he said, "Your Mother is dying. We were assigned to find you and bring you to her."

Now my mother was sick? But wouldn t she be an "Undead Lycan" or whatever that was because she was my mother?

I met his gaze. "You said I m an Undead. So, my mother–"

"She is not like you. You are the only Undead shapeshifter in existence." He took a deep breath. "Everything will be cleared up for you once you see her. So, are you coming with us or not?"

I bit my lower lip and nodded. "I swear, if you people are lying to me, I ll make you pay."

Maybe my life would be different in another world.
