LUCIFER'S BANE

Part one of a two book series. The rules of the fallen are simple. Ten days. Ten days, you live without sin and you will be accepted back into heaven. It's just ten days, it shouldn't be that hard. Until the rules became applicable to fragile, innocent Azaliah who after an ambush, was thrown out of heaven by mistake and began her transition into a human. With her newly found emotions all over the place, the human family she lived with, a low ranked angel who swore to protect her, a mark on her shoulder that is a beacon for the darkness that ruled the earth, and her romantic feelings for the mysterious demon who helped her stay alive in exchange for his freedom, ten days suddenly felt like ten years. And with that came an epic battle for her soul as two ancient spirits came after her when the celestial world finds out that she is the weapon that can kill man and spirit's greatest enemy, Lucifer. Nb: part one mostly focuses on Lucifer as the main character. The main character for book two would be introduced towards the end of the book.

Nahamani stared at Lucifer stunned. She had noticed him from where she sat behind a guard at the top of the arena. She saw a clear smoke around him indicating that he had cloaked himself but she didn't understand why he did so and why only she could see him. She turned to Carshena, whose attention was drawn to the game.

"Where did master Lucifer say he was again?" She asked.

"Up in the maker's temple, he said he called him for a private talk. You should know that you were the one he told". She said without looking at her. Nahamani looked back at Lucifer, who was staring at the top three angels on the field. Her eyes followed his gaze. She knew there was something off with Adriel and Gadreel's behavior earlier. Was it that Lucifer put them there for a different reason other than the game? When she looked up again, Lucifer had disappeared from his spot. She jumped up from her seat, ready to go after him.

"Where are you going?"Carshena asked.

"To stroll, my legs hurt". She said then walked away without waiting for Carshena's response. She was very confused by the shady attitude Lucifer displayed. Why would he lie that he was meeting with the Master and then cloak himself and stalk the game? Was he waiting for someone? Was he looking for something?

It annoyed her that most angels could seal their thoughts from one another, it would have been better to know what Lucifer was thinking at this moment. She then decided instead of creeping on him, she should just ask him.

From a distance, she watched as Lucifer watched the two cherubs guarding the door of the sword of light before snapping his fingers and they fell to the ground. Nahamani almost screamed but she held herself. He had not killed them but with his behavior, it was only a matter of time before he did. That was not even what scared her the most. What did Lucifer want in that room? Wasn't it off-limits? Was he going rogue?

She watched him place his hands on the doorknob and out of instinct, she moved closer to him.

"Master, what are you doing?" She asked. Although she wanted to sound brave, she was very scared. As Lucifer slowly turned around to face her, she could not recognize the special son of God anymore. What was wrong with him?

Lucifer and Nahamani stared at each other intensely. None of them spoke. The way she looked at him was with fear and not the respect kind. She was afraid of him. Afraid of what he might do to her and she had every reason to be. Lucifer had no plans to let her live knowing she must have watched him knock out the cherubs and seen him almost open the forbidden door. But he was intrigued as to how she saw him through the cloak. He also was getting a bit apprehensive, he did not expect to be stopped by Nahamani or anyone for that matter. He had thought things through and it was falling apart in front of him. He however had a calm demeanor in front of Nahamani not wanting to seem weak.

"Master?" Nahamani called again. Begging him with her eyes to explain what was happening.

"Nahamani". He responded. She froze. He was playing dumb. Or probably that was what he wanted her to think. She felt a dark presence around him, it was very dim but it was there and she had a feeling it would expand soon enough.

"I thought you were with the maker". She said staring at him. She tried to match up with Lucifer's unwavering gaze and impassive face.

"I was not". He confessed although it did not seem like a confession.

"You lied?" She asked quietly. Her face almost lost its calm expression. Lucifer narrowed his eyes at her and made Nahamani more uncomfortable. The way he stared at her was like he had already calculated and decided on all the horrible ways he could hurt her.

"It seems I did". He said. He planned to let Nahamani ask all the questions and he would reply with very vague answers. The more he replied, the more confused she got.

"Why? If you wanted to rest, you could have just said so. We would have understood as you are very busy all the time". She reasoned. Lucifer hummed in response. He found it amusing that Nahamani was trying to find a logical explanation for what she witnessed.

"It does not seem like I need rest though". He teased her. Her eyes darted to the door. She didn't know what was in the room, but at least she knew it was extremely important. She then looked at Lucifer, maybe he knew what it was for. Maybe that was why he was snooping around. But if it was for the right reasons. Why would he snoop?

"Why did you come to this door?" She asked. Lucifer sighed. He was already bored. He wanted her to finish her interrogation before he began his. If he saw no reason to let her live, he will end her life quickly.

"To open it".

"Why did you want to open it?"

"To take what is in it".

"Does the maker have need of it?"

"No".

"Then why do you need to take it?" Lucifer paused and smirked. His eyes held a glint of mischief in them. First, he was shocked that Nahamani had not bothered to know what was inside the door, second, he was really enjoying twisting her mind. He enjoyed twisting minds. Nahamani gulped in fright when she saw the subtle smile on his face. Gone was the sweet, loving master that she worked for. Now, a monster was in front of her and he was ready to devour her.

"If I told you that, I would have to kill you". He said calmly. Nahamani's eyes went wide and she turned to run away when Lucifer drew her back by closing his hands. Nahamani's back hit the wall and Lucifer trapped her with his two arms. Now she could not run away and she had no choice but to look at the two golden eyes of Lucifer, the pair that was losing its goodness and was getting replaced by darkness.

"Why are you doing this?". She asked. Lucifer tsked.

"Why am I pinning you against the wall or why am I opening the door? Be more specific". He said with a monotone voice. She gulped again, her body shaking.

"Both". She whispered.

"I told you, if I told you the reason for the second question, you would have to die". He repeated.

"Then why have you not killed me yet?"

Lucifer sighed again. Too many questions and he had not even asked her one.

"I need to know how you can see me". He replied. Nahamani narrowed her eyes in confusion. With what was going on, that was the most useless thing that he could be worried about. Lucifer was a traitor even though he had not killed anybody yet, he was dangerous. But he was bothered not about his punishment or humiliation but her ability to see him.

"I do not know". Lucifer hit the wall very close to her face, making her cower. His golden eyes were glowing in anger even though his face was still very calm.

"Do not lie to me". He said slowly. Nahamani shook her head.

"By God's throne, I am not. I am as shocked as you are". She hastily explained. Lucifer signed and released her from his grasp.

"Seems you turned out useless to me after all". He said. Nahamani was ready to go on her knees and plead for her life.

"You are going to kill me". She said, concluding her fate. Lucifer looked at her from the corner of his eyes.

"No. I will not. I will still find out how you got to see me but you have already caused enough distraction for me as it is". He explained. Before Nahamani could reply to him, he had knocked her out as well. He then placed her beside the two cherubs still asleep and cloaked them. Then he proceeded to create two illusions of the Cherubs he had put to sleep. With a satisfied sigh, he reached out for the doorknob again, and then a loud scream stopped him. With a growl, he turned around to the sound of the scream. The whole heavens were in shock as they stared at an angel with a knife in a hand and sprinkles of golden dust laid on the floor. Lucifer widened his eyes as Adriel stood up in shock from what she had just done. She had killed one of the opponents.

"Ah Adriel, no one would save you from what I intend to do with you after this". He stated as he glared at her.
