LUCIFER'S BANE

Part one of a two book series. The rules of the fallen are simple. Ten days. Ten days, you live without sin and you will be accepted back into heaven. It's just ten days, it shouldn't be that hard. Until the rules became applicable to fragile, innocent Azaliah who after an ambush, was thrown out of heaven by mistake and began her transition into a human. With her newly found emotions all over the place, the human family she lived with, a low ranked angel who swore to protect her, a mark on her shoulder that is a beacon for the darkness that ruled the earth, and her romantic feelings for the mysterious demon who helped her stay alive in exchange for his freedom, ten days suddenly felt like ten years. And with that came an epic battle for her soul as two ancient spirits came after her when the celestial world finds out that she is the weapon that can kill man and spirit's greatest enemy, Lucifer. Nb: part one mostly focuses on Lucifer as the main character. The main character for book two would be introduced towards the end of the book.

After so many years, one would have thought that Lucifer would have grown accustomed to the world he had landed in but reverse was the case. The more he stared at the occupants of the world, the less he saw of them but it didn't bother him like before because unlike him, the humans did not see the potential in themselves. And it was all his doing.

As he blended into the crowd, he smiled. That smile had never been genuine, it was even more feared than his scowl. From every corner his eyes could reach, there was iniquity. Since the first time he turned man against God, they had taken the baton on their own and did even worse than he had imagined. There were some that foolishly still upheld their belief and those ones were his problem even thought they were smaller in number.

He thought he had succeeded for a while after he dealt with Adam and his murderous son but then as always 'he' was always ready to destroy his plans.

After winning over the whole world except for a man and his despicable family, 'he' thought it was nice to destroy his beautiful plan by wiping the earth clean of any remaining humans. And so, he began again.

This feud kept going on and on until the time of the crucifixion.

The smile on Lucifer's face disappeared completely after he remembered how he was played beyond his knowledge. He could still not believe that 'he' had appeared by himself to this place, and for what? To redeem them, the humans that have time and again turned their backs on him.

It first started as a joke, a tiny little human born in a manger to a poor carpenter and a virgin and then this human started to do unspeakable, unusual things that could no longer be considered human. Of course Lucifer's first instinct was to kill the man before he did too much damage and that was what he did, and in the most gruesome way possible too. But it turned out that was how 'he' wanted it, the death of that man and his resurrection made him lose his power over the darkness and it was handed back to the humans.

Once again, he was beneath them because of 'him'. The mad smile reappeared on his face, what he was facing did not feel funny and he was mad with rage.

Every day that he saw the faces of the humans smiling and laughing, he wanted only to contort their faces into cries and frowns. They annoyed him the more now, because they had every opportunity and all the power to silence him.

Yet they didn't, because they were ignorant and Lucifer was more than willing to take advantage of their naivety.

The era that he governed now was filled with non believers and the ones who believed wished that they weren't born because of the persecution. No matter the age or size, if you were caught believing in the existence of a sky god, you will pay with your life. So they lived in fear and the amount of people who turned against christian religion were numerous. Lucifer was so engrossed in his own thoughts, he almost did not notice someone behind him.

"If you are to appear like this again, it should be because you have found something of importance for me". Lucifer said. The person behind him took a deep breath and sighed.

"I did". Came a short reply. Lucifer turned towards the voice and narrowed his eyes at a scrawny looking man. He sighed, visibly irritated. He had specifically told Gadreel to look acceptable so he could easily accomplish tasks.

"What is this?" Lucifer asked with a glare. Gadreel stared at himself with a confused expression.

"What is what my lord?"

"This disguise". Lucifer drew the words very slowly making Gadreel gulp in fear.

"Uh…master?".

"I never wish to see this ugly face again. Is that clear?" Lucifer asked. Gadreel nodded frantically.

"It's a shame there's someone who actually looks like that". This comment earned a small laugh from Gadreel.

Lucifer started to walk away from him in a haste and Gadreel followed.

"Master…"

"Would you not call me that? And would you please not follow me so closely?" Lucifer quickened his pace to get far away from Gadreel. He had walked a distance before he heard a different voice call him.

"Master". When he turned,he saw a more handsome looking man standing in front of him, he nodded and turned again.

"Better". Then he resumed his fast pace walking.

"Master, please slow down". Gadreel pleaded.

"You should have already started talking about the information you have for me". Lucifer said.

"Our sources have discovered something wonderful master, we never thought that…"

"Our sources?" Lucifer interrupted.

"What sources?"

"Uh..master I…"

"You truly cannot accept that he does a better job than you, can you?" This question angered Gadreel but he held himself.

"It's not that master, I just didn't think it would be important".

"Well it is". Lucifer said. Even though the noises from the crowd of people could deafen the ears of anyone, Gadreel could hear the firm voice of Lucifer, clearer than any of the other voices surrounding them.

"Very well sir. Your boy discovered something wonderful. Something we thought you lost".

Lucifer abruptly stopped.

"What is it?"

"The sword master". He knew. He knew somehow that it still existed. He could feel it's power faintly around him only because he once had possession of it. If he got his hands on that sword again, all will be his and his disgrace and exile will be over. He will no longer bow to 'him'.

"Where is it?" Lucifer asked in a whisper. Gadreel cleared his throat.

"Uhm…master. It's up there". Lucifer looked to the sky, he could see a lot of angels flying in the air carrying out one task or the other.

"Well, we will have to get it back". He said. Gadreel's eyes opened wide.

"What do you mean get it back master? You mean to go back there?"

Lucifer stared at him with a frown.

"What's wrong with that?"

Gadreel stared at him in response.

"Fine, since you are so weak minded, I guess I'll have to send someone else". Lucifer started walking again."Gadreel tell him to assemble as many demons he can gather and ambush the heavens".

"Which him?"

"You know who". Gadreel ran to meet up with Lucifer.

"Master, one more thing".

"What?"

"We also found out the tournament is about to take place". Lucifer smiled.

"How ironic".
