LUCIFER'S BANE

Part one of a two book series. The rules of the fallen are simple. Ten days. Ten days, you live without sin and you will be accepted back into heaven. It's just ten days, it shouldn't be that hard. Until the rules became applicable to fragile, innocent Azaliah who after an ambush, was thrown out of heaven by mistake and began her transition into a human. With her newly found emotions all over the place, the human family she lived with, a low ranked angel who swore to protect her, a mark on her shoulder that is a beacon for the darkness that ruled the earth, and her romantic feelings for the mysterious demon who helped her stay alive in exchange for his freedom, ten days suddenly felt like ten years. And with that came an epic battle for her soul as two ancient spirits came after her when the celestial world finds out that she is the weapon that can kill man and spirit's greatest enemy, Lucifer. Nb: part one mostly focuses on Lucifer as the main character. The main character for book two would be introduced towards the end of the book.

FLASHBACK 9

Once again, Lucifer was stalking the female but this time with a smile on his face. She was near a stream far away from Adam playing with her hair and humming to the tunes of the small birds that surrounded them. A hissing sound diverted Lucifer's attention. The former cherub looked at the snake in his hands and his smile widened.

So close.

He raised his hands so the snake could be at eye level with him, then his eyes darkened.

"I know you are a harmless creature but yet you seem so…dangerous". He said. The serpent's head moved side to side as it stared and Lucifer mirrored the action with perfect sync.

"So deceitful. I feel you are a lot like me". He continued. "And just like me all you need is a little push".

As he said those words, the snake hissed and its eye slit got narrower. It understood him.

He then began to stare deeply into the eyes of the animal, the serpent had stopped hissing and it focused on the dark glow of Lucifer's golden eyes.

After a few minutes, Lucifer was no longer holding the snake by the hand and neither did he see the garden in a clear state. His vision had become blurred and he was unable to blink. He then attempted to smile but instead a forked tongue came out from his mouth and a hiss was released. At this brief moment, Lucifer felt like he could sense everything at once. It was a bit overwhelming and also fascinating.

He doubted the two creatures placed on the garden had such abilities.

"Master this is amazing". Gadreel said as he crouched near Lucifer's host.

"Indeed It is". Gadreel's shocked face was enough proof for Lucifer to know his plan had worked. They could hear him talk, now it was time for him to speak to the female.

Lucifer crawled towards the female hissing continuously, his own way of smiling profusely. The female initially did not notice him until he had gotten closer and the hiss got louder. She stopped humming and stared at the serpent who hissed again. Then, a smile broke out on her lips.

Lucifer stopped hissing. How can one look so pure like as if she were one of the angels? How could she not see right through him?

The female bent down and tapped his head once before sitting back down the ground. Lucifer did not appreciate the tapping, he hissed again and crawled in circles trying to get her to look at it. It worked although the expression on her face was clouded with confusion.

Can she not speak to me? Should I speak first?

"What is it?" She asked in a soft voice. "Do you want my attention?"

"Yes". Came his short reply. The female gasped and stood up from the grass covering her mouth in shock.

"Y-you can speak?"

"Yes". The female closed her eyes as if she could not believe her ears. When she opened it, the serpent was still staring at her.

"Say something else". She whispered. Lucifer had decided that he hated her voice more than her whole self.

"I wish to speak to you…female". She stared at it for a while before smiling widely.

"This is truly wonderful. Another beautiful ability God has gifted this one". Lucifer cringed at the sound of the name of his former master. A name he decided never to mention again. He frowned at the female and an hiss escaped his mouth again, but she was oblivious.

"I must tell Adam". At this moment, Lucifer widened his eyes.

"NO!" He yelled. The female stopped in her tracks and the smile vanished from her face. If Adam knew of this, he would go and tell 'him' and he didn't want to have an encounter with 'him' again.

"Why not…this is beautiful. Are you ashamed?"

Lucifer cringed again.

"Of course not". He intended to sound soft but his voice came out more threatening. But as usual, the female had no clue.

"Is it because the others don't have this gift? She asked again with an innocent look. Lucifer wanted to use his tiny legs and slap her on the head.

"No". He whispered again, sounding more vicious.

"It's alright, you're very special". She said. Lucifer hissed sharply in response and bared his fangs at her. The female only looked at it with compassion. Lucifer gave up.

"You're very special too". The female looked visibly taken aback and faint red color appeared on her cheeks. Lucifer recognized it as those things that appeared on Adriel's face when he spoke to her. There were a lot of reasons for him to despise this female creature.

"Oh, I appreciate. Adam tells me all the time". Lucifer hissed sharply again. She was supposed to bask in his compliments.

"You are very fond of this…Adam aren't you?"

Her face lit up.

"Oh yes. He is the sweetest. He taught me a lot of things. Did you know God molded me from his ribs? We have been intertwined since the very beginning". She explained. Lucifer was almost tempted to dive into the stream and drown himself.

"You don't say".

"I do say! Yesterday we played in this very stream and we played all sorts of games, of course he's the one who came up with most of them and it was beautiful then we went to one of the trees to speak to God. Oh did you know that is his favorite time to--"

"So basically, he's your head". The female abruptly stopped and shook her head.

"No, of course not. We are equals".

Lucifer smiled and let out a soft hiss. This was interesting.

"But most of the things you know here is because of him, right?" The female paused.

"Well…yes but--"

"But?"

"That's because he was here before me". Lucifer hissed softly again. The way she spoke about him was the way Adriel spoke to him, no it was stronger. He couldn't quite understand what she was feeling to make her have that annoying look in her eyes.

He was glad Adriel didn't have this look when she stared at him. He would have beheaded her.

"That is really…beautiful". He made a mental note to cut of the tongue of this creature later.

"It is".

"But still, you haven't done anything in return have you?"

The female's expression turned sour and Lucifer just knew this was the closest to getting angry as she could get.

"I have truly thought about it but he has shown me everything there is, so I have nothing to give". Lucifer almost laughed at her. Whatever she was feeling was making her mad.

"Well there is one thing". Her expression brightened up immediately and she smiled.

"What". Lucifer stood on two of his legs and used the third leg to point at the forbidden tree. The female's happy face fell again.

"Oh".

"What's wrong? Did God say you should not eat fruit out of every tree in the garden?" Lucifer shivered when he mentioned 'his' name again. But he had to or else his facade wouldn't work well.

"We can eat fruits out of the trees". Her eyes fixated on the large tree in the middle of the garden."Except that one, we can't even touch it.Or we will die".

The serpent hissed again.

"But you want to please Adam yes?"

"Yes but he hasn't complained at all so I cannot touch the tree". Lucifer stared stunned. He was certain she would jump at the opportunity.

"And uh… what about God? Did he not tell you you have to please Adam?"

The female scratched her chin and shook her head.

"No, not at all. I suppose he never did because it wasn't that necessary after all". She replied. Lucifer almost panicked. Don't tell me she's backing out already? He needs to keep going.

"Or maybe he's hiding something". The female's attention was fully drawn to him now and she looked at the serpent with curiosity.

"Hiding what? That's impossible. He discusses everything with Adam and I". She defended. Lucifer scoffed and a hiss escaped his mouth again.

"Does he?". The female's eyes widened.

"What do you know that we don't?". She asked softly. Yes!!! This was it.

"You see female, he lied to you. When you eat this fruit, you will not die. You know why?"

"No".

"Because you cannot die. You and Adam are immortal beings. He doesn't want you to eat the fruit because…"

The female leaned in closer.

"Because?"

"The day you eat of it…you and Adam will become like him". Her eyes widened and Lucifer crawled closer to her. "You will become gods".
