LUCIFER'S BANE

Part one of a two book series. The rules of the fallen are simple. Ten days. Ten days, you live without sin and you will be accepted back into heaven. It's just ten days, it shouldn't be that hard. Until the rules became applicable to fragile, innocent Azaliah who after an ambush, was thrown out of heaven by mistake and began her transition into a human. With her newly found emotions all over the place, the human family she lived with, a low ranked angel who swore to protect her, a mark on her shoulder that is a beacon for the darkness that ruled the earth, and her romantic feelings for the mysterious demon who helped her stay alive in exchange for his freedom, ten days suddenly felt like ten years. And with that came an epic battle for her soul as two ancient spirits came after her when the celestial world finds out that she is the weapon that can kill man and spirit's greatest enemy, Lucifer. Nb: part one mostly focuses on Lucifer as the main character. The main character for book two would be introduced towards the end of the book.

Nahamani hesitated to raise her head up to admire the hall despite the indirect order God gave her. There was silence after he had asked that question a few minutes ago and she had delayed in replying simply because she was still baffled that she had not being killed by the maker and that he was speaking to her at this very moment.

"Nahamani?" God called again. Nahamani gasped, he knew her name. He had acknowledged her presence. She decided to speak so she would not incur his wrath.

"M--my lord". She replied in a mere whisper. She knew he had heard her but it was extremely disrespectful for her to reply in such low tone.

"Your thoughts are quite amusing to me, calm yourself". He said softly. Nahamani tried to breathe in and out but she felt like she was constricted of air.

"You will not die if you breathe right Nahamani". God spoke again. Hearing him call her name did nothing to ease her tension. God did not speak to her again, he let her be while he watched in silence. Eventually, Nahamani stopped panicking and she slightly raised her head to take a peep at the temple.

"You can stare". God's voice came again. "I have hooded your eyes, the light would not harm you". Nahamani seemed to be a bit comforted by this as she raised her head slowly until she faced the bright light that shone before her. She could not see the throne but she could see the Seraphs that lined up towards it, they all stared at her with smiles on their faces before they started walking calmly to and fro the hall. Nahamani's eyes wandered across the halls and her mouth was open with surprise. It was more beautiful than Lucifer had explained to them, she was almost tempted to go and touch them.

'Yes, it is easy to be distracted by its beauty but you are here for a reason aren't you?" God's voice echoed through the halls once more. Nahamani bowed slightly before raising her head up again.

"My lord, I am truly grateful and honored to be in your presence this day". She said, even though she had been given permission to stand and look around, she was almost tempted to fall on her knees again.

"I would not harm you Nahamani, you have no need to be so stiff. Tell me what you want". God spoke.

"My lord, I have come to inform you about the troubles that we face in heaven as we speak. Lucifer had led rebel angels against us, he has taken the sword from the forbidden door and used it to enhance himself as well as the other angels, we do not stand a chance against him". Nahamani felt the tears threatening to leave her eyes again. There was another long silence in the halls before God spoke again.

"I see". Was all he replied. Nahamani stared ahead of her in disbelief. Why did he act so unbothered by what she said? His people were dying in the hands of his most trusted angel and all he had to say was 'I see'

"M--my lord, I do not think you understand what I said. Your angels are dying, we will go extinct if Lucifer is done with us. Michael's body lies underneath the feet of one of his followers, we are losing". She reexplained.

"It sounds like you wish to fight me". God replied her. Nahamani's mouth was wide open. Did he not care for them? Were Lucifer's words true?

"I only want to know why you have done nothing, why you left us by ourselves".

"You didn't ask for my help". God simply replied. Nahamani did not reply at once. She simply stared at the ground.

"But my lord, we are your subjects. If we are in trouble, it should be your responsibility to come to our rescue". As the words flew out of her mouth, she gasped in fear. The tone she had used was completely disrespectful but still, God's reply was as calm as ever.

"Nahamani". He said. "What was my greatest gift to you?"

"My life"

"Apart from that?" Nahamani scrunched her nose in confusion.

After a brief silence, God replied.

"Your will". He said. "I have given every being the gift of choice to do as they please. I cannot take it away from them. If you use that gift to call for me, I will come but until then I will not force myself on you".

"But my lord--"

"When Michael spoke to Lucifer, he did not call my name. He praised himself in front of the angels, he exhibited the same trait of pride and you cannot fight evil with evil, now he is paying with his life".

"p--please my lo-lord…"

"If you had a problem and someone perhaps came to help you without your permission, you may appreciate it at that time yes, but one day you will spit back the favor in his face". God kept explaining. "But if you asked, you will cherish it forever. Nobody likes to be ignored".

Nahamani nodded in understanding. She knew he could see her heart and he spoke exactly was she would have done in that situation. She also would never like to be thrown aside like that.

"I gave Lucifer all he had without his asking. I pleased him and he turned against me, you my dear should understand". God said. "Never the less, Nahamani, whatever you want of me this moment I will give it to you".

"My lord--"

"You just need to ask". Nahamani fell to the floor with her head bowed.

"My lord, I understand my mistake and all our mistakes. Please I beg of you to save us, do not let your enemy make a mockery of you and of us. You created Lucifer and only you can end him. Help us win this battle".

God did not respond immediately but she stayed on the ground either way. The tears dropped on her cheeks. They were doomed if God decided to punish them for not remembering him.

"Lucifer's end has already been decided". He finally said. "Just as he turned against his master, his own servant will turn against him. I will raise a world to mock him, a people that will substitute him and they will be his head. A thousand times he shall raise his head against me and a thousand times, I will destroy him. He will suffer shame and darkness for the rest of his life and he will be made small in the eyes of those he once commanded, he will be known as an abomination and so will everyone of them that follows him. He will be banished from heaven and be cast into the void, and the pit, and hell. He will wander all his life, struggling to find peace and he will never find it".

Nahamani stared up into the light in shock. Most of the things he said she did not understand, and were not existing.

"Lucifer would wage war against me two times after this moment. The second time, I will send a weapon that will defeat him for a time and I will entrust this weapon into your hands. You must keep it safe until the time it must be harnessed. If Lucifer gets his hand on it, he will have enough power to defeat you".

Nahamani nodded frantically, her heart was beating extremely fast.

"You can go now Nahamani, Beth is about to be strangled to death and it is not a pleasant sight".

The angel stood up immediately and flew out of the hall with speed. On her way, she closed her eyes and said a silent thank you knowing that no matter how far she was, God had heard her.
