1 Chapter 1: the wrong story

This is where it stops. This feud of ours...I bet you never expected this ingenuity"

He swallowed hard and gritted his teeth with clenched fists, watching with wrenching guts as the stench of blood condensed into the air. Darkened pillars rose into the sky dissipating into thick fog. Their sight were as clear as daytime vision, goring into each other's and for the first time, Marcus stared back at him in defiance with a lingering smile on his face.

Scattered in the dark, thousand voices rose into the night, wailing and calling out to one another. The pools all over delayed their motion, each dragging their beings and ripping their skin away. Each wound, each scar, thrust deep into Lucian's cold heart. Pulling every vein as his eyes gradually deepened in blood, flaming the rage he must keep at bay.

Struggling to reach her daughter, a woman in tatters bruised her leg against a fallen bough. Lucian turned away just in time as a sharp edge tore into the woman's flesh, right across the skin and came out the other end.

"What's the matter,Overlord? Have I clipped your silver wings? Have thou fallen like thy father?!"

He went on speaking as Lucian's gaze turned misty watching his people as they fell along with what remained of humanity.

"You have failed!"Marcus screamed at him, towering 5.few feet high before the 6.2 feet high Angel of the night whose silver wings and hair stood out from the rest of his black armour which covered his entire being, rising like a dragons scales. Peering into his eyes narrowly revealed in the helmet that shielded his face like a mask, Marcus shuddered and pulled himself together immediately, sneering as he railed continuously, adjuring him to stoop to his knees.

"Your highness!"called a voice from behind him, but he didn't turn. He waited until the person drew closer to him.

"Where is she? Is she safe?"

"It's done!"replied a youth with an afro red hair, roughly complemented by several piercings of golden rings running on his ears and nose, with many rings on his finger as his entire body exuded much strength under a black armour with a carving of a phoenix which similarly ran the length of his exposed hands as the armour stopped on his shoulders with a pad slightly curved at the tips. His boots were like Lucian's and his eyes as well.

"We are losing men for this scheme and see how he gloats over there."

"Ra,we can not continue.

It appears we have lost this time."

"No, you can't...."

"Hush, my friend."

"Do you think she will make it?"he asked after a long pause at no one in particular.

Looking ahead at the long line of beasts overlooking them with thousands more squeezing away every life from the frail beings, his lashes flapped once and a tear dropped when his eyes met a child's.

Struggling to stay together with her mother, the silver haired girl, kept her eyes fixed on him, with her lips moving at intervals.

Lucian recognized the woman at once, even though scarred and covered by blood.

"I'm sorry," he mouthed and looked away.

With Marcus and his men several feet away from them, Lucian asked with a hoax voice,"am I like my father?"

Aching from the sudden realization that he might never escape his root, his pupils dilated.

"You know the answer already, Lucian, your hesitation at a moment like this and contemplation of surrender remains solid proof. You are nothing like him!"

"Ra, the balance must be maintained even at the cost of my life...Ra,no matter what, the Oath must be upheld."

Picking it up, Marcus sneered," It's easy Prince of lights, just sleep for eternity and let the world live. With you away, lots of things will change for good and no one would be another's slave."

"Do you give me your word on that?"

"I'm not as vile as you think, Lucian. I know of the Oath as well."

"And how you have harnessed it."

"We did what was necessary, your yoke had to be lifted."

"And from hence, you will be bound to darkness,to wander through ages a creature of the night, despised by all races, daunting, hunting and haunted by your deed this day till eternity.

Have you no fear of the wrath you have incurred? These beings, as frail as they seem are our survival and you have broken the balance!"

"The strongest survives, Lucian! You know that better than anyone. And would you lecture me on this balance that has only existed for the benefit of you and your kind?

You made us slaves!"

"You were never made slaves more than you already were,"Ra replied nonchalantly, with a lazy look that dared them to get closer.

Looking away from Ra who upon meeting his gaze went mute, Lucian grew weary with the cries that he couldn't keep away.

"You may not survive. Another enemy will always rise, and for your atrocities this day, The Maker will not pardon."

That's not for you to decide, and with you gone, we have better chances of survival, as the most dominant creature in existence. The question is, how long would you stay before you rot away?"

"He's immortal, wolf. Not some hideous abominable creature."

"And you forget the fact that he's a fallen one. Bound to wander in darkness like us all, and can not return to his former estate.

Tell me, son of the light bringer, what say you?"

And thus, Lucian and his hosts laid under the yoke, silver chains to keep them through eternity in agony until life leaves them and sleep descends for endless time.

And Marcus and his pack, through generations, beginning from ten years later, fell into darkness, hunted by mankind with a new weapon developed from the silver that remained after Lucian was bound. A weapon with the speed of lightning, flying across space, the shout of a thunder, the brightness of Lucian's strands and wings. All the features of the one bound by oath, awaiting the rescue of the high mistress in time to come. But years went by until hope left all heart.

"No worries granny, I will certainly recommend you as a good storyteller,"she said with a faux smile.

"I know that look, young woman!"

"Fine... okay," she threw her hands," let's say I believe you now. But I'm curious to know the little girl's name."

The old woman bloomed with a smile that captured her eternal youth in a moment.
