The Damn Dog

After we climbed into the cement tubing, I was basically sitting on his lap. It was incredibly awkward to me and yet unbelievably comforting. While we hid he killed six spiders, and at one point sneakily put his arm around my back to kinda brace it so I wouldn't hit my head off the side of the tube. finally Marty's dog Pete came running over to the tube with Joe right behind him.

Brandon and I won the game and we headed back to the main house to get ready to play another round. Brandon took off running with me side by side. He looked back at me to shoot me a smile. his smile quickly turned into a terrified gawk. Everything began to go into slow motion.

"Alex!!......Look out!!!" his scared shout came out unfathomably slow. I barely turned my head back enough to see Pete's tail and then feel the ground fall out from under my feet. I was going into the air and slowly falling. Brandon stopped running and turned around and tried to stop the inevitable collision between me and the ground two feet below me.

I felt my tail bone actually bend but not break as the ground and my butt collided. All the air left my lungs and I felt the loss. Suddenly everything went back to normal and the pain came flooding in like a tidal wave. "*gasp* AHHH!!!!!!" the scream left my lips before I could stop it and hold myself together.

Tears started to stream down my face. All I saw was Brandon hovering over me. "Joe, Blake! Go get mom, dad, Tanya and Kyler!!!" he shouted at our brothers. "Alex I'm right here it's okay." he whispered in my ear.

I felt his arm go over my shoulder and pull me into his chest. I couldn't stop crying. I had no control of my body, I couldn't reach under his arms to hug him even though I tried and hurt myself more. "Hey hey hey, shhh. don't cry. I know it hurts. it'll be okay soon." he whispered again. at this point he started to rock ever so slightly.

I wanted to grab ahold of the dog when I heard him come up to me. I had already forgiven him because he just wanted to play too. unfortunately I was smaller than him so he hurt me. "Hey! Go on git!!" Brandon shouted at Pete.

"N-n-no!!" I whisper shouted at Brandon. I barely had the will power to fight the pain to pull the dog's head into my lap so I could pet him to let him know it was okay. I heard my dad's voice followed by Brandon's dad. "Brandon, what happened to my little girl!" my dad angrily said to Brandon assuming it was his fault.

"D-daddy, it wasn't h-him. It was the dog." I tried to explain. "She's telling the truth Mr. Simmons. Pete came out of no where and nocked her feet out from under her." he also tried to explain. Thankfully he succeeded. "Well son it seems that you kinda took the situation into your own hands." Brandon's dad said as my dad pulled me from Brandon's arms and started to carry me into the house.

Their voices started to get further and further away. I opened my eyes, I was barely able to read Brandon's dad's lips to see him say that Brandon did the right thing. About ten minutes later I was half way recovered. Miranda opened the back door and told the rest of the boys to come in for dinner. Brandon was a type one diabetic and he was allergic to gluten so the potato soup was way different than what I was used to.

It was incredible however. After we all ate Brandon and I headed out side again and walked to the very back of the property. Pete followed about ten feet behind us being careful not to accidentally hurt me again.
