Chapter 28: Birthday aftermath

Jerry got home exhausted.

"Today has been a long day", he said as a sigh also escaped his mouth while he changed from his clothes to the bathrobe.

He had never been that out before since he started working as a professor. All he does was go to school, get back home, prepare and that was all.

He did the same thing all over again, countless times. Except he got bored and decide to go for a walk.

He went to the bathroom and turned the shower on. The day he had slowly flashed in his eyes.

The thought of Maya's mother smile invaded his thought. His mother also smiled like that. It wasn't the normal poker pretense smile you putted up for people during an event.

He could sense her smile was genuine. Then, he slowly remembered the day he met Maya.

He had noticed she had the same smile also. He even cimpared it to that of his mother. And now, he's comparing her mother's smile to that of his mother.

"So that's where she got the smile from", Jerry thought as he tied the robe to his body.

He never believed he went for Maya's birthday party. He wasn't intending to since he thought he and Megan was going to spend the whole day meaning there was no time of boredom for him.

There was really no time of boredom for him since he himself was dead busy with what he had been working with Cam on.

But as human, he knew he need sometime and a break at times so he decided to jump on the offer of been Megan's date even if she pretended it wasn't.

Since thing turned out bad, he had gone back home to shower and found himself dressing up to Maya's party.

Still thinking about his strange turn of attitude for the day, he heard his phone beep. A message had dropped in.

"Baby.... I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. I thought we were cool and you had forgiven me. I didn't mean it that way....", was the content he found in the message which was from Megan.

Jerry had gotten angry for what Megan did. Fine...! They used to be lovers which also means he had gone in and out of her countless times but he felt that Megan saw sex as a quick way of apologizing for what she did.

If not for the long time bind between then, Jerry had wanted to cut ties with her and make sure she doesn't come close to him.

He respected her for old time's sake by following her around. The last agenda she had for the day was have a birthday dinner. Just the both of them.

Jerry wasn't stupid, he clearly knew her plans which also meant he knew she saw the outings as a date but he didn't care and the least she could do was appreciate him but she ended up seducing him.

He knew no good man in his right senses would have accommodated Megan the moment she came after everything he had been through.

He himself had been wondeeing on why she came back.

"Was it because she had found out the real truth about me or because she still loves me and feels remorseful....?", Jerry kept on asking himself this questions countless times.

"Go to bed Megan... Good night", was the short reply Jerry could think of and that was exactly what he sent to her.

"Go to bed...? Good night....? Are you kidding me...?, Megan repeated, fuming with anger.

She threw the glass cup of wine on her hand with anger and shouted in frustration and disappointment.

"How dare you Jerry....? How dare you...?", she repeated and with her hand sweep to the floor the bottle of wine on the table

She was expecting Jerry to call and apologize or at least tell her he forgave her and was no longer mad at her or better still, she expect him to have thought of the pleasure her little smooching had given him then call her for a nice night but reverse was the case.

"You can't run away Jerry. I want you and would have you", Megan said as she open a bottle of blue wine.

AFTER THE PARTY

Maya got lots of gifts. But the one she admired and loved the most was Jerry's own.

It was a sliver necklace with little diamond stones on it. It looked ezpensive but she didn't care because it was her's any way.

She had worn it immediately she unboxed it and almost cried at how beautiful it looked.

She had wondered how Jerry quickly got such a beautiful and expensive gift for her at the die minute.

Now she started feelings that something was definitely wrong somewhere but she couldn't pinpoint was she was starting to get suspious of him.

"Now its clear why Maya broke up with Steve", Sam teased as the three lied down on Maya's king size comforter bed, chit chatting.

"I didn't break up with Steve because of Jer Sam. I broke up because I was tired pretending to lo him when I never did. The mistake I made was not doing it early because I thought things would work out. I was trying to force what would never be", Maya said and she sat up to stretch.

"Just kidding Sis. I remember so well how you tried to avoid dating him but ended up giving it a try because you pitied him", Sam said as she message Maya back while sitting behind her.

"And that is a great lesson for us three. Never date someone because of pity. Its a very grave mistake you'd end up regretting. Just like our miss here. Amaya Williams", Ann backed up and Sammie laughed.

"Its not funny girls. Its my day remember? You should both spoil me with pamper", Maya pouted and rolles her eyes.

"And thats why I'm giving you a massage Sis. Its not something you'd get on a normal day", Sam replied and they laughed.

"So what are you planning to do now?. I mean you said your feelings for Jerry was love at first sight. I mean how about telling it to him?", Ann suggested and Maya turned to look at her.

"Ann....?", Maya called her name with eyes almost popping out.

"I mean.... Its not a bad idea. You just need to pour out your feelibgs to him. Thats all. We both know he and the substitute can't be a thing. That assurance of him been single is why I'm suggesting it. You know I wouldn't have suggested it if I wasn't so sure", Ann said and Maya heaved a sigh.

"C'mon Sis... Nothing could possibly go wrong. You said he knowns you name to which you never told him. And now he attended you birthday party. So what could possibly go wrong?", Samantha supported and they both looked at Maya, waiting for her to make the final decision.

"But what if he and the substitute are truly in a relationship? I wouldn't want to destroy my fellow woman relationship because of my own selfish interest Ann. I don't want to be a reason for anything that might go wrong between them. I have conscience Ann, I wouldn't be happy if it where to be me....", Maya replied worriedly and Sam smiled assuringly while she putted an assurancing hand on Maya's shoulder.

Ann also did the same while she said; "I'm not saying you don't have conscience Maya but its clearly obvious that Miss Jones is throwing herself on Professor Doyle. We don't know how they knew themselves but who knows. She might have been a long time fruend or class mate crushing on him and the happened to meet unexpectedly there...".

"What if reverse was the case?. Or didn't you see how he pulled her out in front of the class. What if they were dating?...", Maya said with a sad tone.

The thought of them dating had always hurt her. Even more than a wound sprinkled with salt.

"And what if you're just assuming things and the substitute only said they were a thing to get women off your Professor's back?", Sam suggested and Maya's face suddenly lit up with a smile.

"I never thought of that Sam", Maya said with a smiling face.

"You see...? Be opened babe. You can do it. Pour it all out. You didn't ask him to be cute and also young at the same time, did you?. Moreover, its not about the appearance. Its about tge heart", Ann said and Maya blushed.

"How old is the man?", Sam asked, ruining the atmosphere.

"All we know is he can't be up to thirty. Maybe even in his mid twenties", Maya replied and Sam smiled with a nod.

Maya thought about the discussion she had all night with the girls. She couldn't sleep because it was a huge move to her.

After hours of thinking, she finally came to a conclusion on it.

She had decided to write a confession letter to Professor Doyle.
