Chapter 19: The man called Jerry

Jerry wasn't new to all of this. He always had the stares even when he was a kid.

Then he always heard words like; "oh my, what a cute boy. He looks so beautiful that i'd want him for my child".

Which was of course one of the reasons he was betrothed to Megan at a very young age but sadly things took a twisted turn. A twisted turn that landed him into becoming a Professor here.

He laughed at his fate and scoffed, thinking; "What a life I have...".

Thinking about Megan again, he let out a sigh.

He could remember Cameron had already informed him of her presence in the country but not yet in town and he wondered what was keeping the Megan he knew waiting.

Her birthday was already around the corner and he could have already guessed that was the reason she was around or maybe one of the reasons because knowing Megan so well, he knows she was up to something.

She always had something up her sleeves and whatever it was, he wasn't ready for it. Not even ready for her also. He had a mission now and that was his primary target. Every other thing came next.

He knew what Megan wanted now and why she changed her mind because they had both talked. It in fact became a surprise to him that after finding out more about him, she decided to come back to him again.

He knew he had thought so highly of her and placed her in high self esteem to have expected less from her which was why he felt disappointed.

"Hmmm....", he scoffed.

"What did i think...?", Jerry said to himself.

She was a woman after all and what else do women what other than what she also went for?. It was just a shame and all he did was put so much trust in her. He didn't even give her the chance to explain herself when she called because he was still angry with her or...

"...was he still love with her?", He asked himself but couldn't get a deserving answer to his question.

He wondered what she must have gone through to get such information about him.

He knew it wasn't that easy to get informations about him so he was so surprised when she called him to confirm.

An insider must have probably also given out his contact for cash also.

He knew he needed to get to the root of this because it wasn't a matter he should just overlook. Such a person could even kill him for a penny.

"Sir.... Sir...", Jerry heard a female voice address him. He looked up to see a waitress smiling at him with a menu in hand.

He collected the menu to place his order just in time to hear the people behind him talk.

He guessed they must have been his students to have stood up to give their respects to him.

The waitress came with his order and he heard the male behind him talk. He didn't mean to eavesdrop but he had to because he couldn't help it. They were the one talking behind him.

"Maya...", Steve called and continued. ".... I understand you clearly like I said earlier and I'm fine with it. Take good care of yourself. I need to take my leave", Steve said and hurriedly excused himself without batting an eye even before Maya opened her mouth to talk.

He didn't want her to see him in his vulnerable state because he was sure he was going to break down there right in front of her at any moment.

It was better he left to find a good place to unwind and let it all out rather than look miserable in front of her.

Jerry wondered what must have happended between the pair but it was none of his business. He was here to see Cameron.

He needed some information from him about home.

His thought suddenly drifted to the blonded hair lady behind him. Her face, her smile and the way she looked at him remembered him of his mother.

She always looked at him with so much love, admiration and content. He could see the same adoration in them which was strangely different from the way other women looked at him.

She looked cute and adorable. That delicate face and slender shoulders of hers made her look.... fragile.

Yes!, that's the right word to describe her.

'Fragile...', he repeated that word in his subconscious mind.

Wait....! What was wrong with him?. Why did he suddenly start thinking of a girl young enough to be his cousin?

"She seems to be in the same age as Dawn. She can't be younger or older and if younger or older, maybe give or take a year", he thought.

He sighed again, ruffling his hair with his hand.

"Cameron is so going to be dead for keeping me waiting this much. That jerk is 10 minutes later already...", he mumbled. Looking at the watch on his wrist.

In fraustration, Jerry took the cup of coffee the waitress just brought to his table and gulped it down all at once.

"F*ck...!!!", he cursed and heard a slight chuckle behind him. The coffee was so hot that it burned his tongue.

"Was she making jest of him?", he thought as he heard the girl chair make a shifting sound like she was about to leave.

He saw the girl pay for her orders and gave him a faint smile as she walked pass him.

He felt so embarrassed that he kept a blank face due to the coffee incident.

He shouldn't have gulped down the coffee in anger but he isn't to be blamed. The girl is. He convinced himself.

It happened because he noticed her which was kind of strange to him. The girl walked out and Cameron walked in right beside her at the same time.

He saw a sly smile in his friend's face. He could already tell he delayed him on purpose.

Cameron had always derived joy in annoying him. He had once said he looked funny whenever he was angry.

"What's good Jay?", Cameron said taking his seat in front of him. Sarcasm clear in his voice.

"What do you expect to be good when I'm clearly delayed for your own pleasure Cam?. You're 15 minutes late". Jerry said, obviously annoyed but still managed to keep his signature blank face.

"Well, the pleasure is and will always be mine. Thanks for acknowledging the fact that it was on purpose", Cameron said grinning and not ready to back out.

Jerry knew nothing good was going to come out of this if they continued to throw words at each other so he decided to go straight to what he was there for.

"What do you have for me...?. Talking on phone isn't going to be that easy because of Megan. Whoever gave her my contact must be keeping an eye on me. I have disposed of every help I have now so I'd have to be living alone. I don't know if my phone is tapped", Jerry explained as Cameron took a drink from his cup.

"Yes. I have all prepared and it is exactly as you thought. Here is the new phone you requested for", Cameron said with a serious face while bringing out a new phone from the brown paper with him.

Jerry took the phone from him and took a look at it before putting it back in the brown paper Cameron brought.

"This will do for now", he said and Cameron nodded in agreement.

"So, have you found a bride yet...? Or why don't you go for the previous one?. I heard she is back in town", Cam said with a grin.

"I'm no longer going for that option Cam. Finding a bride now is the least of my problems though it was thought as a way out or the easiest way out. Moreover, I went through the profile of the previous girl and I've come to a conclusion that she is not someone I can settle down with apart from the age been a barrier to me", Jerry said calmly.

Cam looked at him skeptically. With all the huddles going on in this man's life, Cam had always envied and wondered how he always managed to keep a blank face.

Any one who isn't close or doesn't know much about him would think he was a machine that couldn't feel any emotion.

The only time he had seen him cry was when his mother died. Since then, he had never seen him leave a chance to show his vulnerable side.

Even when you throw a coconut at him, he wasn't going to shed a tear or give you the pleasure to see a tear.

"You could still go for that option you know?", Cam said and Jerry lifted a brow.

"I told you Cam, I am thinking of a way out already. Keep Rick and Donald updated but I'll need you to be careful while doing that. We don't know who we're up against yet", Jerry said, changing the topic.

"How about Megan...?", Cam suggested and Jerry furrowed his brows.
