CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Aegalia's market, is a place where the ordinary meets the extraordinary in a symphony of sights, sounds, and scents. As you step into this bustling bazaar, you're greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors and a cacophony of voices.

The market square is a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of magic and commerce. Stalls adorned with fluttering banners beckon you closer, offering an array of goods that range from the mundane to the mystical.

Aromas dance on the breeze, enticing you with the promise of exotic delicacies and tantalizing treats. From savory pies filled with celestial spices to crystalline goblets brimming with sparkling elixirs, the culinary delights of Aegalia are sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate.

But it's not just food that fills the air with temptation. Artisans and craftsmen showcase their wares, their creations infused with the very essence of magic. Gleaming jewelry adorned with enchanted gemstones, intricately carved staffs crackling with arcane energy, and tapestries depicting scenes from distant realms—all vie for your attention as you weave through the bustling crowds.

The sounds of laughter and music mingle with the whispers of spells being cast and fortunes being told. Street performers captivate audiences with feats of acrobatics and illusions, while mystics offer glimpses into the future with their ancient divinations.

At every turn, the marketplace of Aegalia offers a new wonder to behold, a new treasure to discover.

I took in the sight that greeted me with awe and wonder. Despite having lived in Aegalia my entire life, this is my first time venturing into the bustling heart of the kingdom's commerce.

There have never been a reason for me to.

Aegalia is big and our humble home was far from the market, whatever food or items we want we easily got from local traders around.

Martha couldn't help but notice the sparkle in Eve's eyes as they entered the vibrant marketplace of Aegalia. "Is this your first time here, Eve?" Martha asked, her voice filled with genuine curiosity.

"Yes, Martha! I've never been to the market before. It's so vibrant and alive!"

Martha's smile widened at Eve's genuine excitement. "Well, you're in for a treat, my dear. Take your time to explore, but be sure not to wander off too far. The market can be quite labyrinthine, especially for newcomers."

Turning to Cedric, Martha's expression shifted slightly, a hint of concern mingling with her instructions. "Cedric, darling, since you're familiar with this place, would you mind keeping an eye on Eve? Make sure she doesn't get too lost in all the excitement."

"Of course, Martha. I'll keep a close watch on her."

With that settled, Martha and the other two maids set off to gather supplies.

Cedric and i wandered from stall to stall, taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling marketplace.

Do you want anything? I can get it for you.

No, Cedric, I'd rather look around for now. Thank you, though.

Cedric nodded his head as we continued our exploration, weaving through the bustling crowds while keeping Martha's group within sight.

As we meandered through the colorful stalls, Cedric pointed out interesting finds and shared tidbits of knowledge about the various goods on display.

As we browsed through the stalls, Cedric couldn't resist the temptation to purchase a few trinkets for himself and his family. With a satisfied smile, he tucked his purchases safely away and turned to me.

Are you sure you don't need anything? I'm more than happy to get it for you.

No, Cedric, I'm fine, thank you. I'm just enjoying taking in all the sights.

Soon, Martha and the other two girls joined us, their arms laden with supplies.

We decided to unwind in a nearby tavern nestled within the bustling market square.

Entering the cozy tavern, we found a table and settled in, eager to relax and replenish our energy. Martha took the lead and placed our orders for food and drinks, ensuring that our selections would satisfy our appetites after a busy day of shopping.

Martha, ever attentive, turned to me with a warm smile. So, Eve, how was your first time in the marketplace?

It was absolutely wonderful, Martha! I had such a good time exploring all the stalls and soaking in the atmosphere. Thank you for bringing me along.

Martha beamed with satisfaction, delighted by my enthusiasm. I'm so glad to hear that, Eve. The marketplace is truly a special place, filled with so much magic and wonder.

As we enjoyed our food and drinks, laughter and conversation flowed freely. The tavern buzzed with the lively chatter of other patrons, creating a vibrant atmosphere that added to our enjoyment.

After enjoying a satisfying meal together at the tavern, we made our way back to the waiting carriage. With Martha leading the way, we followed her out of the tavern and towards the carriage waiting just outside the marketplace.

The carriage driver greeted us warmly as we approached, opening the door for us to climb inside. We settled into the comfortable seats, feeling a sense of relaxation wash over us after the day's excitement.

As the carriage began its journey back to the palace, i gazed out of the windows, watching as the bustling streets of the marketplace gradually gave way to quieter surroundings.

Inside the carriage, the atmosphere was peaceful, with only the soft sound of the carriage wheels against the cobblestones breaking the silence. Martha, ever the gracious hostess, engaged us in light conversation.

As the palace gates came into view, we were greeted by the familiar sight of the grand facade illuminated by torchlight.

As I descended from the carriage, I turned to Martha with a grateful smile.

Martha, thank you for today.

Martha returned my smile warmly. You are welcome, my dear. Take care and be safe she said, her voice filled with genuine concern.

With a final nod of farewell, I watched as Martha and the girls made their way inside.

Turning to Cedric, I found him waiting patiently nearby.

Together, we walked towards Cleon's wing at the back of the palace.

As we approached our destination, Cedric's steps slowed, and he turned to me with a solemn expression.

Eve, be cautious, Cedric advised, his voice tinged with concern.

Thank you, Cedric.

With a nod of acknowledgment, Cedric bid me farewell and turned to leave, disappearing into the shadows of the palace grounds.

As Cedric's figure disappeared into the distance, I found myself standing alone outside Cleon's wing. The looming darkness seemed to accentuate the imposing nature of the building, casting long shadows that danced across its walls.

For a moment, a sense of unease crept over me, fueled by the ominous atmosphere and those cursed rumours going around. But I quickly shook my head, banishing the lingering doubts.

I pushed open the heavy door and stepped inside. The interior of Cleon's wing was dimly lit, the soft glow of torches flickering in the darkness. But despite the eerie ambiance, I felt a sense of familiarity wash over me.

Cleon, i called out.

You are back, came his voice behind me and suddenly all the torches was lit and everywhere was bright and the eerie ambiance i felt when i stepped in was gone.

Dinner will be ready in a little while, why don't you go upstairs and freshen up; with that said he turned and left me there.

Shaking my head i went upstairs to take a bath and freshen up, it indeed has been a long day.
