Rejection

Today was the day when she finally summoned up her courage to confess her 13 years old love.

Today, she invited him for dinner in a high-end restaurant. Money was common for her. She can spend as much money as she wants. What she wanted were him and his love.

Lisa and he both are childhood friends and were supposed to be engaged together at age of 18 but he declined the engagement saying that if he doesn't find his love of life till he reaches 22 then he will directly marry her. She felt sad at first because of his rejection but later thought its ok... She was confident that love of his life is her, he loves her ... it's just that he hasn't realized yet, and he will realize it later.

She was wrong. Her confidence was wrong. Her thinking that way was wrong. But she realized that late. She regrets now. She should have confessed to him before he met her. She should have persuaded him. She laughs when she thinks about her past. She questioned herself from where that confidence came to her that he will love her and he will be hers. It was so foolish of her. Today she is gonna make things right. She is finally gonna propose to him, after all, today is his 22nd birthday.

While she was reminiscing about her past. Her bubble of thoughts popped when she saw him entering in their private room, smiling. She booked a private room for them. He looked the same as last time she saw him except he looked a bit mature. His grey eyes that captivated her the most is still showing the same warmth towards her. He is still dashing and handsome as he was 2 yrs back. He still has that gentle smile, he had before. Everything is the same about him except his heart that doesn't own her.

As he entered, he smiled and said hi.

She replied to him with hi.

He said," How ya doing? It's been a long time since we last see each other "

"I am doing fine. Yup, hell lot of time has passed since we last saw each other." She replied.

"So.. Shall we order?" She asked

"Yup, sure"

"You order today. It's on me, birthday boy"

"Then I think I should order the most expensive dish and wine...hahaha"

"Sure, it's not gonna bankrupt me... hahaha"

He ordered Spaghetti alle vongole and for wine ordered Domaine Leroy Richebourg Grand Cru 1949 for two. She ordered Chicken fried steak.

The waiter first served them wine and told them to wait for food. They nodded and dismissed him.

After drinking 1 glass of wine in one gulp, she gained her courage. She slowly placed her hand on top of his hand which was on the table. He became stiff and about to take off his hand from hers, she grasped it tightly. She looked into his eyes with a sweet smile on her face.

"Robb, you remember the promise right."

"What promise???" He raised his eyebrows.

"You said if you don't find your love till you are 22, you will marry me. I know that you found your love and I know that you both broke up. So, that promise is still valid right.. cause right now you are single and no more with her."

"..."

"Tell me, Robb, will you marry me? I know you recently broke up and you need time to come out from that grief. But I will wait. I will wait for you until you accept me. No matter how many years you tell me to wait, I will wait. But you have to promise me that you will marry me...okkk" She said with full of love in her eyes.

He looks down on the table and thought for a while and said "I ..i..m..I'm sorry, Lisa. But I can't promise you that. I don't know from where you heard that she and I broke up, its fake news. We never broke up. It's just that we both were busy with assignments and work that we don't go out together much. "

She felt like her world collapsed.

'So, I got fake news....hahaha.' she thought.

She made a fool of herself. The courage she had was already gone. She took away her hand from him slowly, leaned back on her chair but smile still on her face. She can't lose her face, especially not in front of him.

"So, Shall I take it as rejection??"

He looked in her eyes and said "I know that you love me and I'm thankful for that but sorry Lisa, I can't love you back. You were, are and will be the most important person in my life but you know... I don't have control over my heart. This heart only beats for her... and only her. If I had control over than I would have surely loved you since I know you for so long but you know that it's not possible. So, sorry I can't except your love. I am really sorry, Lisa. Thank you for all the things you have done for me. Hope we can still be friends" He stood up and left without waiting for a reply.

The smile on her face has yet to vanish and he already left the room. Her tears were streaming down from her cheeks and she didn't know what she should do now. She prepared for today since last week and what she got was rejection. After drinking the whole bottle of wine, she asked for the bill.

The waiter told her that sir has already paid for the meal.

Hearing that she smiled more but her eyes were full of tears.

"You really didn't want to give me a single piece of hope even if its fake, right, Robb.." She murmured and left the restaurant stumbling.
