Chapter Fifty- Luncheon

Hailey's POV

Leaving Ms whatever her name is I strode towards my office not bothering to see if Basil is behind me or not. Standing I'm front of my door, I took out my keys, opening the door, I walked in, slamming it shut behind me with all of my strength.

As fast as it was slammed shut, it opened, turning around quickly as I reached my desk,.Clyde walked in, without knocking.

"Leave the door open" I instructed him as he was about to close it.

Hesitating, he left it slightly ajar.

I looked at him, "I haven't been having a good day so far, so next time please knock my door and wait to be invited in" I told him politely.

"Yes ma'am" he said just as politely.

Normally I would have reminded him to call me by my given name, but not today and not him.

"I have somewhere to be, how can I help you?" I asked wishing Basil would come in. Picking up my phone, I scrolled for Basil's number ready to press the call button.

"I won't be long, I just wanted to give you a quick word of advise."Clyde says looking at me seductively.

" You too" I retorted angrily.

Frowning, "what are you talking about?" he asks.

"I was just warned by one of Ms Stewart's minions and judging by your close relationship with her, you're her second minions that she's sent after me." I responded still angry that even Basil hasn't shown up.

Stunned by my outburst, he stared at me wondering what to say next.

"That's not what it looks like" he said, still unsure of himself.

"What advice do you have for me?" I reminded him, why he's here.

My phone pinged.

Adian: I'm waiting impatiently.

Me: be there soon .

Looking at Clyde, "I have to go and what doesn't look like what?" I asked actually interested in what he has to say.

"Yes, right! Do you want to hang out tonight at club fifty one, where the guys would be hanging out." he ask hopefully, but I don't trust him.

Shrugging, "I'm not sure. I'll be going with Adian so let's see how it goes" I said picking up my keys and handbag, putting my phones and iPad inside.

Observing me,."Just so you know Adian's not what he looks like and he's taken" Clyde said unconvincingly.

Shrugging, "yeah, I actually know her personally and we get along great" I say, with a bright smile, definitely convincing him.

"Why are Ms Stewart's minions warning me, when they be warning Ms Stewart" I asked Clyde, opening the door wider to see Basil standing there grinning.

Clyde acknowledged Basil with a nod and walks ahead of me out the door, wearing a confused expression.

"Thanks for the advice and invitation though" I wave Clyde off as Basil secures my office.

I followed Basil to the elevator down to an annoyed Adian.

Getting into the backseat, Basil hesitates before getting into the front, passenger seat.

I know it's itching Basil to ask questions but I have nothing to say so I just leaned back.

Lost in my own thoughts I didn't hear much of Adian's and Basil's conversation, but hearing Adian swear out loud brought me back to where I was.

I met Adian's eye in the rearview mirror to see him giving me an angry glare.

Narrowing my eyes in response because I was totally out of their conversation.

,Basil butt in, "I was just telling Adian about your two interruptions on your floor" he explained Adian's anger.

"Oh, okay" I said looking to Adian who was still glaring at me. "what did I do?" I asked confused.

Basil turns around to face me full on, "Hailey, I stood and listen to the two of them and I honestly see them as a potential threat to you?" Basil says.

Ignoring that "what? Nah. I don't really think it's that bad. I can handle them, and I have no desire to go into their space." I told them both.

"Clyde is not what he tries to portray." Adian said to me.

Laughing out loud, "he said the same thing about you" I told him as Basil started laughing. Adian just gave us an angry glare before turning to focus on the road.

Adian pulled up in front of the hotel where we got married, I met his gaze in the mirror to see a warm smile.

We got out of the vehicle and Basil was proceeding to leave.

"You're joining us, aren't you?" I asked Basil.

Shaking his head, about to refuse, "yes he is" Adian confirms, throwing his car keys to the valet.

Ushering us ahead, Adian, button up his jacket.

"I'm going to take you shopping this weekend for clothes that don't make men walking behind you drool" Adian chuckles softly.

I turned to glare at him hoping Basil didn't hear.

'So how are you and Clyde so familiar with each other?" Adian ask s curiously

I immediately went on to explain about my first meeting with him and his comments that I overheard in the boardroom.

Adian listen intently, paying full attention to me.

Adian introduced himself to the hostess, who led us to the Knights party.

Ryan greeted us, but I was disappointed that Jerry was missing.

Sensing a change in me, Adian pulled a chair out for me. I ended up between Adian and the board member I want to know better because for some reason he has answers to some of my questions.

A BLESS 2021 TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.

I PRAY THAT HEALTH AND PROSPERITY REIGN OVER YOU AND YOURS.
