Chapter 9: I have standards you know!

Angeline took a deep breath and gathered all her courage as she walked towards Kai's table. He was surrounded by his usual group of friends, all laughing and chatting as they enjoyed their lunch.

"Hi Kai," she said, trying to sound confident.

Kai looked up at her, his eyebrows raised in surprise. "Hey, Angeline. What's up?"

"I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me sometime," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

Kai smirked, clearly amused. "You want to go out with me? Why?"

Angeline felt her face flush with embarrassment. "I just thought it would be fun," she muttered.

Kai leaned back in his chair, his eyes scanning her from head to toe. "Sorry, Angeline, but I don't think that would work. I have standards, you know."

Angeline felt her heart sink as she realized what was happening. She had just been rejected by the most popular guy in school, and in front of his friends, no less.

She turned to leave, feeling humiliated and embarrassed. As she walked away, she could hear Kai and his friends snickering behind her back.

Feeling tears prick at the corners of her eyes, Angeline quickly made her way out of the cafeteria, wishing she had never even thought about asking Kai out in the first place.

Angeline burst into the bathroom, tears streaming down her face. She was embarrassed and humiliated after being rejected by Kai in front of his friends.

Aubrey, who had followed her, found her friend sobbing uncontrollably in one of the stalls. She quickly went over to her and hugged her.

"I warned you, Angeline. I told you not to go after Kai," Aubrey said softly.

Angeline pulled away from her friend's embrace, feeling angry and frustrated. "I can't believe you're saying that now, Aubrey. You could have supported me when I needed you, but you didn't," she said, her voice shaking with anger.

Aubrey sighed. "I'm sorry, Angeline. I just didn't want to see you get hurt. Kai is not the kind of guy you should be chasing after."

"Well, it's too late now, isn't it?" Angeline snapped, wiping her tears away with the back of her hand. "I'm the laughing stock of the school, and it's all because of you."

Aubrey looked hurt. "I didn't mean to make you feel that way, Wait I didn't even do anything so why are you lashing at me? Angeline! I just wanted to protect you."

Angeline shook her head, not wanting to listen to her friend's excuses anymore. "I can't deal with this right now, Aubrey. I need some time alone," she said, storming out of the bathroom.

Aubrey watched her friend go, feeling guilty and upset. She knew she should have been more supportive, but she didn't want to see Angeline get hurt
