5 His mother

***********

~AM Medical Centre S City~

In the large hallway of the VIP section of one of the best and largest hospitals in S City, Kim Ji-hun walked at a fast pace, erupting a sound as a result of the striking of his shoes on the tiles.

Walking ahead with half of his face covered with a black nose mask, his gaze remained fixed on a particular spot until he stopped in front of a door with 'VIP 1' marked on it.

Apparently, he had found his way to the VIP ward in the hospital without any hitch while looking for someone.

Taking a deep breath, his long lashes fluttered close Three seconds later his eyes opened as he raised his fist to pound on the door softly before pushing it open.

Walking into the quiet room looking too luxurious for a patient, he shut the door behind, his gaze first looking to his right to briefly take in the setting in the sitting room.

A white two-sitter sofa facing the 44-inch black television hung on the wall, a round-shaped transparent table at the centre of the room, two tall vases that each stood beside the thick drawn curtains, and three expensive paintings hanging on the walls and a few pieces of art stationed close the television.

"Son, you're here." A sweet female voice called out in surprise, earning a head turn from Kim Ji-hun.

Seeing the woman sitting on the Queen-sized bed dressed in hospital clothes, he made his way over while taking off his nose mask.

"Mum," he called out, acknowledging her existence. "What are you doing here?"

"Can't you see, I am hospitalized." She said gesturing to her body with a small smile she failed to hide at the corner of her lips which his sharp eyes caught immediately.

'Hospitalized?'

Running his gaze from her black hair in a neat updo to her red-painted toes that were crossed over the other, Kim Ji-hun couldn't see any evidence of her being sick.

These days was being hospitalized now being tagged as only getting a bed in the hospital and changing into a hospital gown?

What happened to the part about being hospitalized due to an illness?

Looking around the room and not even seeing the basic drip stand, Kim Ji-hun shut his eyes as realization dawned on him. He has been deceived.

Did he leave an important pile of work behind to rush to the hospital because of a fake call?

God help him!

"Why is your face twisted in that manner?" Choi Chae-Yeon inquired while squinting her eyes at him.

She seemed to be unaware that she was the sole reason her son looked like he had a lot going on with him.

"Mum, do you realize that I do not have the time to spare for your petty antics?"

Kim Ji-hun was annoyed and he went further to prove it without a care.

"I have told you several times to only contact me when there is an urgent matter."

"Isn't this an urgent matter? I haven't seen you in 4 weeks and this is the only way I could get you to show up. How bad is that?"

Obviously, she saw nothing wrong with the stunt she pulled as long as she achieved her goal.

"If you wish to see my face, there are lots of my pictures at home," he said, giving her an option, she probably forgot to register in her head.

Instead of taking the correction, Choi Chae-Yeon who was not about to forget the main point of the whole reason she had to act out a drama just for him to show up, hurriedly adjusted her sitting position.

"Ji-hun, where have you been laying your head for the past 4 weeks? Wait!"

She had only started when suddenly her eyes widened in shock as she took in a sharp breath.

"What?"

At the moment, Kim Ji-hun looked disinterested in whatever guesses she was trying to make in her head.

His exquisite, well-crafted, handsome face was contoured in a frown, making his gaze cold.

Frowning slightly while counting something with her fingers, Choi Chae-Yeon quickly glanced his way again to ask as a surprising glint flashed across her eyes,

"Don't tell me you have been sleeping on that couch in your office for several nights in a row?"

If that was the case, then her poor son must have been overworking himself.

With that thought, she searched his face to see if she would find eyebags under his eyes or even dark circles.

Hearing what she had to say at last, Kim Ji-hun advised without a shred of a smile on his face.

He was clearly unhappy with the immature tricks his mother had played on him when he was already very busy with work.

"Next time, don't play this kind of trick or I will abandon you. Also, I am very busy at the moment. You will be doing me a lot of good if you don't call."

Saying up to this point, his eyes glanced at the few items in the room before shifting his attention to her one more time.

"I'm leaving."

Seeing the back of those broad shoulders hidden in a sky-blue shirt, Choi Chae-Yeon quickly asked as her tone softened, showing the loneliness in them.

"Are you going to leave me like your father now?"

Instantly, Kim Ji-hun's steps faltered.

Stopping for a moment as he released a long sigh, his gaze hardened the next second as his jaw straightened out.

"If you came here just to get some pity from him, you should have called him and not me."

His tone was cold, totally devoid of any emotion.

It seemed like that statement from her was what did the trick of turning him from a son who was originally slightly annoyed with his mother to one who didn't want to stay in the same space as her even for a second more.

What was he running away from?

Letting out another long sigh as he collected his emotion for a bit, he added without turning his face to her and fixed the nose mask back on his face.

"Go home if there is no reason, after all, your home is more comfortable than here."

Kim Ji-hun resumed his steps as his gaze remained ahead. He looked to no longer care about her anymore and did not bother sparing her one last glance before he totally disappeared from her sight.

A few seconds later, Choi Chae-Yeon placed her hand on her chest and let out a heavy breath as her eyes shut tightly.

Sometimes, it was really tough on her with a son like that.

Leaving the VIP room, Kim Ji-hun went straight to the underground parking lot and got into his car without stopping in his steps.

Taking off his nose mask, he covered his forehead with the back of his hand as his eyes closed at the same time.

"To the office," he said to the driver and almost immediately, the car's engine came on and in no time, the car drove away from the parking lot and hit the road.
