Chapter 2

Maia looked at me concerned and I smiled back at her.

''Whats wrong?'' my dad asks, noticing our hesitation

''Its Ok'' I say to Maia

''What?'' My dad asks again

''I think we may have found a new creature''

''Seriously?'' he asks worriedly

''Yeah'' I reply briefly

''Can you give me a bit more details?'' he asks agitated

''Sorry" I say realizing I had zoned out of the conversation, then continue, ''Do you remember Sam?''

''Yeah, your model looking boyfriend. I saw him when I came to your school last month. Whats he got to do with any of this?'' my dad asks not seeing the point of Sam in our conversation

''I think he's supernatural, Dad. I broke up with him this morning and I got weird supernatural vibes coming of him like waves and it was powerful. He didn't have the aura of a witch, vampire or werewolf either but I think he's dangerous. He made me freak out this morning and I don't freak out that way about anything, you know me'' I say and then look at Maia who adds,

''She's right sir. She freaked out so much and I had to calm her down. I haven't seen her that scared in my life. And we've been friends since we were toddlers, so thats saying something'' and then smiles at me.

''Ok, so what you're saying is that there is probably a teenage boy, with immense power coupled with his hormones, and that he could be dangerous'' my dad says looking away

''Yeah, thats another way of putting it down I guess'' I say

''Ok, thanks for telling me. I'll see what I can do about it'' he says, standing up and grabbing what looked like a wine bottle but actually one made of blood.

''Here, for when you guys leave. We don't want you getting hungry and drawing us any attention'' he says handing us the bottle

''Thanks dad'' I say as I collected it and put it in my bag.

''Yeah, just don't finish it all at once. You know you had a problem with drinking, Shanon. Don't relpase'' he says, the way a normal parent would

''I won't dad'' I say re-assuringly, to him and to myself.

''Thats good to hear, I just hope you act on it'' he says watchich me closely

I couldn't summon up the courage to reply and even if I could, I didn't have anything to say

''You guys should stay a bit longer, you know I don't get to see you so often'' he says and I could hear the break in his voice. The man who was a superhero to me, had an emotional tone in his voice. It was heart breaking to hear him like that and even if I had somethings to do, I couldn't just leave him. And he was lonely, he didn't have to tell me. I just knew, he didn't have a wife or many friends and I was usually out or at school.

I looked at Maia and she seemed to know what I was thinking so she nodded in agreement

''Ok, sure. We'll stay but only for a bit.'' I say sitting back down and Maia followed suit.

''Finally, you guys agreed to stay. I thought it would take the world ending for you to actually stay for a while'' my dad said and laughed to himself

''Very funny dad'' I say sarcastically

''You know I can literally see the sarcasm written on your face'' he said smiling and then added, ''do you guys want something to eat

''Yes, please'' Maia said eagerly and I agreed

''Ok, so I wanted you guys to try this. Its a knew delicacy I made'' he said handing us some plates on steak.

''You should become a vampire chef dad, maybe vampires pay well,'' I suggested playfully as I ate the steak. It melted in my mouth and I could tell there was blood in the recipie but I didn't mind. Maia and I hadn't eaten all day so it was good that we ate now, for the good of humans.

''Only a few pay well but only the few. Most of us are street vamps and we only have a few high up'' he said taking some steak for himself sitting back down.

We talked for a while and laughed about the life of a vampire before a knock summoned my dad to the door.

''Tom, I just wanted to make sure you were alright. I haven't heard from you in a while'' we heard the voice say. Maia and I already knew who it was and I noticed Maia's smile.

''Oh, I'm fine Anthony. Its just that I have some guest you'll be pleased to see'' he said and beamed with happiness that any father would understand

''Who?'' Anthony said still from outside

''Come in and see for yourself. I don't know how you're still outside. Curiosity would have made me come in already if I were in your shoes'' my dad says while bursting into laughter.

Anthony came in and immediately locked eyes with Maia and I could see the joy they must have been feeling at that moment light up their faces.

Maia sprang up as if on command and almost jumping for joy and she girlishly squealed, "Dad"

''My baby girl'' Anthony said and they both walked up to each other and enjoyed the joy of a warm embrace with each other. I looked at my dad and he smiled at me while wrapping his arm around my shoulder while pulling me close. He smelt of warmth and safety and that was what I needed the most. My dad was always my pillar of stranght, and I don't know what I would do without him, I thought as we watched Anthony and Maia embrace and admire each other.

When they had finished their embrace, my dad said

''Ok, now I have something to say and I'm not sure how you two will take it'' he said sounding like a child that had broken his grandma's vase while looking at Maia and I.

''What is it?'' I asked.

My dad looked at Anthony who nodded an agreement to a secret they were both in on.

''Ok, so, we're having a party today. Everyone will be here and its important that you meet them and mingle. So I was hoping you guys would come. I know you don't like these parties but please do it for Anthony and I. Its just one night''

I was put on the spot, do this for my dad or go home? I had no idea what to pick and it seemed like Maia didn't either.

''Fine, we'll come but that was totally mean dad. How could you put us on the spot like that?'' I said annoyed

''Well, we have to find a way to get you guys to socialise here, and thats the only way but I'm sorry. Your rooms are still the way you left then, there is an updated wardrobe so I'm sure everything you need is there'' my dad says smiling and coming over to hug me. I playfully punched him but he kissed my forehead and enclosed me in an embrace.

Maia and I walked down the staircase to the living room and then down a spiral staircase to the basement. I admired Maia's emerald green sexy satin spaghetti strap, mermaid prom dress. The color of the dress seemed to melt with her olive toned skin. She was about five foot six and she was taller now with her five inch black stapped, suede heels. She had her long brown hair packed in a messy bun, with long silver jeweled earrings and a tiny diamond necklace round her neck with her black chanel bag -yes, we use chanel- over all she looked elegant with the simple makeup that brought out her plump heart shaped lips, arched eyebrows, high cheekbones, and lovely cat eyes that had a beautiful green color.

We walked down the spiral staircase in silence as neither of us wanted to talk about the fact that we are going to a party that we didn't want to go to.

We walked down into the raging sound of pop and electronic dance music. I knew that at the start of the party, we would have to go through the street vamps before we get to the VIP area where our party was.

I got pushed to a group of boys who were dancing and screaming at the top of their lungs. I felt like there was a possibility that I would puke because my stomach churned as I was being pushed around. I decided to walk carefully and I pushed back against the street vamps and occasionally got caught between what seemed like two disgustingly sweaty bodies but they were probably just bloody bodies - as vampires didn't sweat- which only made the chances a lot higher that I would stain my hot pink, two piece, diamond encrusted prom dress.

As I was thinking about how the walk to the VIP section was taking longer than it should have, I felt a hand grab mine and I almost toppled over on my stilletoes. I guesses it was just one of the drunk street vamps who probably didn't know what they were doing.

''Hey, pretty girl'' I heard a drunken voice say

''Leave me alone.'' I said annoyed with him

I turned around to see a very drunk dude, he looked about six feet which was tall compared to my five foot five, he had very black hair and eyes and just wore a plain t-shirt and jeans.

''Why are you dressed like that? Can you undress a bit, this is a party not a ball...unwind'' he said coming so close that I could smell the putrid smell of alchohol coming out from his mouth so strongly that I could almost taste it.

''If you don't let me go, you'll regret it. I assure you'' I said hoping I didn't have to get my hands or my dress dirty.

''Oh, you're the feisty type, I like it. I should have guessed as much since you are a redhead'' he said putting one hand on my waist and tucking a strand of my wavy hair behind my ear.

Ok, that was the last strand. I'm totally frying his ass in hot oil.
