126 I Just Can't

Casey still had absolutely no idea what was going on. What questions could he ask that wouldn't expose his act? 

He was so confused. Why was Vera defending him? Why would she do that after he had been avoiding her this long? If Kane was trying to replace him…why was she so adamant he couldn't do it? 

Kane certainly had his problems but at least he wasn't a coward. That was the one thing he had going for him. That and the fact that Dr. Pratchett seemed to think he was making more progress in therapy than Casey was. 

They were both terrible but they were different kinds of terrible. It was baffling that Vera was able to accept either kind. By all means, she shouldn't even be here. Let alone being so patient about something that had clearly been a problem multiple times. 

"Why?" Casey managed to get out.
