32 I'm Glad Your Car Broke Down

Vera sighed. Casey had her there. He had always been able to see through her when she was upset for some reason. He must have high empathy levels.

"Okay, you got me. I'm too afraid to go into the fitness center by myself because that's where I met my stalker. Stupid, right?" she said as lightly as she could manage despite not feeling light at all.

Compassion shone in his one visible eye and he shifted his mail so he could hold out a hand to help her up. "It's not stupid at all. Would you feel better if I went in there with you?"

Vera blinked at him. She had never seen him in the fitness center but that didn't necessarily mean he didn't use it.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. I don't have anything going on. Just let me put the mail away and get changed."

"Thanks," she said sincerely.
