Casey was justifying things, wasn't he? Because he wanted to go to the movies with Vera but didn't want to admit it.

He wasn't used to wanting things. Especially things that had to do with other people. He had done his best to keep his head down and his nose out of other people's business since college but his resolve had sort of gone out the window concerning her.

The safer thing to do would be to say no but… "S-sure!"

Vera beamed at him. "Great! I'll check to see what the showtimes are."

And just like that, they ended up going to the showing that started in thirty minutes. She even bought popcorn for the two of them to split and he nearly had a heart attack when their hands brushed in the bucket.

He was lucky it was dark. She couldn't see that his face was on fire because of something so simple.
